My fear is we’re potentially looking at another Siewart situation here, ie a young manager out of his depth, and if we wait til the end of September before addressing the situation, we’re almost certainly in for a constant season of struggle to avoid relegation. Next match is crucial for me, no significant improvement and it’s very much decision time by the board. If it is to be the death of a thousand knives, how does this affect Schofield and another possible go at some stage in the future? Concerning if not worrying times. We got lucky with Siewart: the club changed hands so PH could sack him after just a few games without having egg on his face. Given DS is DH’s man (and he’s bigged him up publicly to disparage claims of him simply being the cheap option) it’s much harder to see him going before Easter, even if we have a disastrous season. More through vanity than loyalty. I’m hoping all works well but if we are fighting relegation/relegated come May I fully expect DS to still be in charge.

Hold your horses is a good shout but the 'I want it now' lot won't want to listen. They remind me of playground bullies seeking one victim after another and enjoying the 'likes' that their foul mouthed and personally abusive posts attract from like minded sheep. They are just desperate to feel accepted and part of the 'cool crew'. If only they could think for themselves and see what we have today compared to a decade ago.All will be well but it won't happen overnight A decade ago we'd just signed (in the summer window) : Adam Clayton Adam Hammill Oliver Norwood Joel Lynch James Vaughan Jermaine Beckford Sean Scannell Paul Dixon Keith Southern Anthony Gerrard We sold Jordan Rhodes to Blackburn. How is this summer comparable to that - a decade ago as you say?

Yes but we had Corberan Toff and O Brien then and all the squad were very fit which went along way to our rise up the table
Many of our players looked knackered after 30 minutes in both games

Positive signs.
I think Rudoni, Russell, Anjorin, Thomas and Ward could be a good unit. They showed signs second half on Friday and with time I really feel they will click. Russell needs to learn when to play simple and they all need to be stronger, we get knocked off the ball far too much in midfield, but that can be fixed.
Issues.
The change in defence, for me, isn’t working. With a 4 rather than a 5 fullbacks need to be quicker to cover and centre backs need to be on it. Fullbacks are doing OK but the REG and Lees pairing looks to be struggling. The first Birmingham goal came on our left and REG was sliding in to block. So should Lees have been there or was REG out of position?
Whether it is because they are a new pairing, REG isn’t quite up to speed or Lees playing left side, I don’t know. I think we need one of Boyle or Nakayama on the left. I would put Lees back right sided and see how he does, if that doesn’t work play REG there. We do look light in the box with two centre backs.
We have changed our back formation and two of the back line and lost Pearson, which looks like quite a blow at the moment. Nichols seems to be struggling a bit and it may be the back line change which is adding to this.
I am sure we will grow and improve and it is so important we support the team while they work through this.

We had that platform, but Mr Hoyle chose to let it walk out of the door, and has made zero effort to replace it.

I'm thinking more of the wider picture of what we achieved, the improvements to the ground and playing surface and the massive improvements with our training facilities and staff at Canalside

A further similarity may well be that signings Town have made don't prove to be successful. l.

its the players who made up the squad that finished 3rd who are massively under-performing so far. hang over from the play offs maybe, but Russell, Thomas, Ward, Hogg, Holmes, Koroma, have been really poor. Ruffels has come in and been dreadful. REG who shone for Rotherham has returned and also been dreadful. Only really Lees, Nicholls and Turton seem on their game at all.
Theres a positive in that to cling to because we KNOW that most of those player can play WAY WAY better.
The new lads in Tino and Rudoni have actually looked good. Still to see the other new signings.
So, when the players who did so well last year get back to anything like, I think we'll be ok.
As it is we're a point short of where we were last season after 2 games , and IMO we should have got that point last night,. Overall a draw would have been the right result. So no reason to panic at all.

You seem to be anti DH despite the further multi millions he's recently put in to keep the club afloat. Why?

He's keeping the club afloat because if it goes into administration he's not getting any of his debt repayments any time soon. And he was the one who chose Phil to own the club, who subsequently couldn't provide the funds. Time and time again Hoyle makes bad decisions. He's stepped in to protect himself, nothing else.

In 1987-88 we had 3 points from 6 games and ended up with only 6 wins all season.

It just wouldn't make sense

He's spending the absolute bare minimum in Championship terms and taking zero risks, and for the club the size of ours, that presents a major obstacle to any progress.

If he wasn't bothered about the debt, he would just write it off?

He isn't getting any of his debt repayments anytime soon anyway!! Unless you've missed it, he's putting money INTO the club, not taking it out, and unless we go up again that isn't about to change. It turned out it was a bad decision to sell to Hodgkinson ( with the caveat that PH actually did a great job in challenging circumstances whilst he was the owner ), but what are you blaming Hoyle for there?? Not knowing covid was about to turn up and wreck all PHs plans??

My question is why he has put another 12 million in and is prepared to put at least 5 million a year in on an ongoing basis. How does that get him his money back? It doesn’t make sense if his only interest is money

Can’t see us winning a game until September and that’s just dependant on if Blackpool are worse than us. Tragic Football isn’t tragic. Real life can be tragic, football isn’t even close to being on a par with real life… We’ve had 2 poor first halves, improvement in the second half of both games, but the goal last night indicates there’s still a decent team in there somewhere. UTT!!!
