We’ve failed to pick up points where points were available since Christmas. After this week we’re back to some really tough games. We are in the mix still but I just don’t see enough wins to keep us up. Our performances have actually got worse Tough game at Burnley but after that we've got back to back home games against Coventry and Bristol city who both sit in the bottom half of the table. We need to target maximum points against these aswell as a good haul in these next two just to ease the pressure abit going into a tough spell of fixtures. Yeah. It’s the fixtures after those two that worry me

Cracking appointment for this particular moment in time, and suggested by me (to the letter) six days ago after the Blackpool game, on the Fotheringham thread. Shows the hierarchy know I talk sense

I'm one of the first to moan when things don't go right so have to praise those leading the club for this one. I think it's the best possible appointment given the situation we're in. Must have taken quite bit of persuasion and money to bring NW out of retirement. Still think he has a huge job on to keep us up but he'll forever be a hero if he achieves it.

After Saturday thought we were dead & buried, we've given ourselves a chance by appointing Colin - UTT.

After Stoke on Wednesday we have 3 out of 4 at home, be it that the away game is at Burnley. Love to win at Stoke but would be happy to go into Saturdays game in no worse a position than we are today

Not a word I'd usually use, but I am 'buzzing' with this appointment. I really feel positive again about our chances to stay up, can see Colin geeing Hoggy up too. Can see he will have one eye on sending Cardiff down to to screw Vincent Tan over.

This will undoubtedly be Warnock's greatest ever challenge and achievement if he keeps Town up. Personally I think it might just be too late but here's hoping it isn't. What this appointment does is suggest that the people who run the club actually realise now that we are in a real mess. Some of us knew that in the summer but let bygones be bygones because I sense that the fightback begins now. Pity I cannot make it to Stoke because even without Warnock at the helm his influence may see some extra effort from the squad. Who knows? We need between now and the end of the season about 8 or 9 wins. Warnock is the only manager who could possibly pull this off. It should galvanise the support too and that might help the players on the pitch, especially at home. Of all the problems I can foresee the biggest is that he likes to play with a big target man up front. Who have we got? If Naby Sarr was still with us I would suggest playing him in that role but he isn't so we cannot. He could go with Pearson he can't be any worse than Waghorn. The issue with midfield is now resolved. Warnock will ignore it. Good. Onwards and upwards it is! Disagree Keeping Rotherham up was a much bigger achievement.

Or we could just carry on like we have since Christmas. Dismal don’t lose style , no flair, no goals. I’ll be gobsmacked if we get out of this. I simply don’t understand the euphoria Also putting my head above the parapet, I agree with this. If he keeps us up then fair dos, but his two best qualities (from reading this thread) seem to be "wont take any shit" and great at handing out bollockings. Getting the team to play winning football might also be useful, and if he does that i will be delighted to eat humble pie, but as returning players never seem to be as good second time around it will be interesting to see how this works out. UTT He's a great man manager and motivator

I am truly gutted I live and work away from Huddersfield as for the first time in what seems like an eternity the John Smiths will be buzzing this Saturday and quite right too. We are one point from safety with 16 games left, thats translates to far from finished. Yes the squad has been shocking but thats under DS and MF. As I mentioned on another thread this is a guy who got something out of Adel Taraabt! If he can get him firing and up for it then **** me he can do it with the players we have.

Warnock can't really lose can he...most of us think we're likely to go down this season, especially after recent failures and the fact even Chico couldn't get this squad to wake up at Wigan.. From my point of view we're down, if we go down with Warnock in charge it won't be his fault, it'll be the guys sat above who've assembled this shit show of a squad..if we stay up..well that'll be a massive bonus..a miracle in fact. Miracle, we're currently only a point from safety, if we were in between 15 and 20 points from safety and somehow survived then yes...miracle. The way we've played since August and the run in we have will make it a miracle.

Has there ever been a gap of 28 years for a club manager returning to his old club? Eddie Niedzwiecki was caretaker manager of Reading in 1991 before managing them again from 2019. Jeez, that's a name from the past 🙂

A bonus 3 points on Wednesday would be absolutely fantastic after today’s news, would really give everyone an even bigger lift before the weekend.

Absolutely phenomenal achievement to get Warnock in the hot seat for the rest of the season. If anybody can save us its him.
The players might be broken at the moment, but give it a couple of training sessions and they'll be running through brick walls for him.
Fully confident we'll stay up now at the expense of Cardiff!

I remember a few years ago when he kept Rotherham up from around February. They were dead, buried and beyond hopeless. He ended up keeping them up comfortably with around 10 points to spare in the end. Miracle at the time. He's got a far easier job with us. He's also 74 now and about 7 years older with a tougher run in of games, injured key players and a shitshow above him. He also rescued Cardiff 6 years ago (and took them up the next season) and Middlesbrough three years ago, plus others as a younger man. He’s failed a few times, of course, Leeds thankfully being one of them. I looked up the Rotherham games and, although as you say, our games are (on paper) tougher, because we have to play teams who have an average current placing of 9th and Rotherham’s finished 11th (couldn’t be bothered to look up where they were at the time the games were played) he couldn’t have had a much harder start - Birmingham (who finished 10th), Burnley (1st), Reading (17th), Brentford (9th), Wednesday (6th), Boro (2nd), Derby (5th) and Ipswich (7th). They got 14 points, after which it didn’t much matter who they played. Rotherham’s players were not household names and had managed 4 points from their previous 7 games.

This really is the best we could have hoped for. If anyone can save us it's him. The players will hate him but the buzz from the crowd on Saturday will be enough, this appointment will lift supporters' spirits & help re-connect us to the club. I still can't think helping if only this money wasted this season had been given to CC at the start, I'm damned sure we wouldn't be at this end of the table. However, that's been done to death, c'mon Town, we can get out of this now. The football can't be any less attractive than what we have witnessed but Neil will put square pegs in square holes. I take it this buzz will NOT be a certain Mr Mark McKay Fotheringham !!! (PS - apologies for bringing this to such a happy thread - but couldn’t resist) ! 🤪

Apart from getting Scarborough, Notts County, Town, Plymouth, Sheffield United, QPR and Cardiff promoted, he's also managed to help Torquay, Rotherham, Cardiff and Middlesbrough avoid relegation.
Aside from that, he led Town to two Wembley finals in a year, including our first Wembley appearances since 1938 and also won the Yorkshire Electricity Cup in 1994.
He led Notts County to the First Division!
He has four relegations on his CV, Notts County from Division One in 1992, Bury from the second tier in 1999, Sheffield United from the Premier League in 2007 and Cardiff from the Premier League in 2019.

UTT All this handing out bollockings stuff will be the exception rather than to rule. They get played because they make great videos, but I’d wager he spends way more of his time putting his arms around players to get the absolute best out of them. Look at what he did with Taraabt at QPR. He’s the kind of character that you want to play for, you don’t have his record by just shouting and balling at players. I don’t actually think these players need a bollocking, their confidence is shot to pieces and I’m certain that Warnock will focus on injecting some confidence and belief back into them, and bring some fun back into our games (like attacking, for example!). He’s a proven man manager and motivator and that’s exactly what we need. If someone with Warnocks record can’t get anything out of this squad then nobody will.
