One of the best leftbacks i've seen play for us (and we've had some good'uns), consistent, fantastic in the air for his size regularly beating opponents taller than him in aeriel duels, and he rarely had a stinker, im surprised he didnt spend more time playing at an higher level, although maybe injury curtailed that somewhat.

Cant be can it? . he hasnt aged much if it is. He'd be in his 70s now wouldn't he? I doubt Warnock and him would both be there anyway!
I was trying to think who's not in the photo...Sinnott, Crosby, Kev Grey, Logan, Clayton, Baldry, Collins, Mitchell.. doesnt really look like any of them.

He was the youngest chairman in the Football League when he took over in 1993.

Probably my favourite player of that era, and thats before you throw in his legendary fist pump victory celebration towards the terrace. An absolute power house of a player - its not often its possible to look back 25 years and decide that the best players are definitely better than even the average players of today - but Cowan was better than Lowe 🤷♂️👌

May just be my memory playing tricks but I have it in mind that his distribution was poor - he seemed to have everything else, looking back at that team though, some terrific memories, you can see why not many teams fancied playing against that lot.

Still got my copy of his book "On The Edge" about his injury and recovery, which I had signed by him at Greenhead Books... including a rather damning review of the TVR Chimaera! Also remember his comeback game in a pre-season friendly at Pontefract Collieries. He was taking one of his signature long throws near where my dad and I were, my dad tapped him on the shoulder to say "great to see you back"... Tommy was such a gentleman that he didn't grumble about having his run-up disrupted!

Scored from a throw in, which went down as an OG. Just as well because throws are indirect, but it never touched the defender on the replays.

Favourite player of all time. Embodied everything that a town player should be. Could desperately do with a modern version of him now.

Absolute warrior and one of my heroes when I was a teenage full back in the 90’s. Those fist pumps to the kilner bank were top class, just like he was in the air. Top top man

Chris Billy, Darren Bullock, Paul Reid, Tom Cowan, Iain Dunn I'm so glad you put names to the picture as I was desperately trying to remember when jug ears Gary Lineker (Simon Trevitt) played for us.

My son asked us to take him some new books to read when we went to visit him this week - and my husband had put this book in amongst them (before this article was written). Definitely one of my favourite ever players and it will be interesting to see how my son enjoys the book, given that Tom Cowan played for us before my son was born - I suppose it would be the same as if I read a book from the Worthington era, for instance. I might have to read it again when it comes back.

I might have to read it again when it comes back. I'm not usually interested in footballers autobiographies, but I enjoyed Cowan's largely because he was one of my favourite players of that period- him being a short-arsed left back like me helped too. Pretty much the only other one I'd go back to again is Frank Worthington's "One Hump or Two" which was my dad's.

Steve Francis was one of my favourites. Always thought another inch taller and he would have been top class. He looks big on that pic tbh.

I really have no idea what look he’s going for there. Does he still watch Town? Anyone know if he ever goes even? Not the worst Chairman we’ve ever had thinking back.
