We won't mention the fact the sale of the shares to Hodgkinson caused the issues he refers to. That deal still stinks to me and I genuinely believe it was concocted only to serve the needs of Dean Hoyle and not give the club the best chance of progression. With parachute monies we had the best chance to spend beyond our club's natural income (FFP) and secure a return to the premier league. Burnley and sheffield have shown this season what can be done if a club has real ambition to return to the top tier. Sadly that golden opportunity was taken from us by THAT deal to sell to a person who quite clearly didn't have the funds to run a club at championship level. DH can cry all he wants about it. His hand has been forced to write off the debts. If only his bitterness had subsided and he'd done that 3 years ago to attract investment back then, then we might have a genuine DH legacy to talk about. I don't think any of us can understand the place Dean Hoyle was when he asked Hodgkinson to take over the club. It's so easy to criticise but without walking in Dean's shoes at that time none of us have a clue. Trying to manage that huge responsibility whilst battling for your life, and that is what severe pancreatitis does, must have been such an awful place to be. Cut the man some slack. Not to forget, the manager of the club had thrown the towel in at the same time. I'm sure Dean will publicly admit one day that the Hodgkinson deal was a terrible one for him, and the club, and a mistake he probably wishes he'd never made - it's probably cost him an awful lot of money with the benefit of hindsight.

Hoyle deserves a lot of credit for what he did and I'm definitely grateful
However he lost the plot long before he sold to Hodgkinson. When we stayed up in 2018 that was the opportunity to build a big legacy (remember the first training ground plans) or for him to cash out
He went into that season appointing DoF quite late - Moss left in the winter. That was a very bad decision IMO. A DoF should have been in ready to hit the ground running as soon as the season ended
We "did our brains" despite DH saying 13 months before we wouldn't. DH signed off that budget
We changed the successfully model of signing from Germany/ Championship and started buying project players from France. Those dreadful signings (Kongolo. Mbenza, Diakhaby. Sobhi all play for noddy clubs 5 years later) meant all the PL legacy was burned in a matter of weeks
We changed the model of getting players in for the first day of preseason - ended up panic buying Mbenza on the last day of the window
Hoyle set that summer budget. He made the key appointments like Rebbe and latter Siewert and frankly made a total pigs ear of it
By the time Hodgkinson arrived the place was well and truly on fire
That said - DH did amazing things and in years to come will be remembered for the great days he gave us I'm sure

Weather it be a good or bad idea, once he has an idea in his head , he will not listen to anyone else who does not agree with him.

If you say so, but the idea PH didnt have the wealth to own a championship club would have needed a time machine to foresee . At the time the deal was done he was extremely wealthy, it just wasnt in his personal bank account. Ive always thought he must have looked at PH and seen himself in 2008...theres obvious comparisons.. and righty or wrongly decided that was the best direction for the club ( the other option being 'outsiders' transferring the clubs debt from him to a bank ) Im sure he regrets the decision ( its cost him a lot ) and he probably regrets making the decision at a time he was literally fighting for his life in hospital.

Big mistake really. Think the successful model did change but not in the way you suggest. We'd been bringing in players from Germany for very small fees. 2nd tier players really, but we'd just chosen very well most of the time. Continuing that wasnt going to work in the PL, so we had to spend more... move into a higher market for our players. 2 expensive project players from France ..on paper both 'should' have been great signings we could eventually make big profits on. Diakhaby had just played 30 odd games for a Monaco side full of big name players..falcao,Tielemans, Fabinho, Moutinho , lemar etc etc Buying a young player from that kind of side for £10m 'should' have been an absolute steal! It defies all logic how bad he actually was. Mbenza the same. Belgium U21..he 'should' have been a great signing. We'd seen Kongolo.. we knew how good he was,,, and he was good. Sobhi, like Pritchard came from the championship. Its frankly weird how these signings didnt work out to the level they didnt. Dont think changing that initial model was a mistake.. it had to be done,,,but we just chose the wrong players.. inexplicably so really.

We don't need to do this again for the umpteenth time. Everyone knows everyone else's position and views aren't going to change either way really.
Warnock has just miraculously re-united a fractured fanbase in a matter of weeks. Time to move on and remain united, cos when we are it makes such a massive different to this club.

Would an experienced DoF selected the players that we did or paid the money for them that we did.......most probably not. So DH's decision not to replace David Moss and to do without an experienced DoF for 6+ months when we were in the biggest league in the world, probably resulted in us buying the players we did at the prices we did. DH trusted the opinions of a young and inexperienced scout and a young and inexperienced Head of Recruitment that summer....A quick search of LinkedIn and you can pretty much figure it out. Anyway, as you have rightly said. We have ended up in a far better place post-DH than we were pre-DH

I just think the model from the first season in the PL was the one to continue. Everyone signed in late June - so there for the start of preseason The top end Championship players were Ince, Malone, Williams and Mooy (never played top flight before). Ince and Malone didn't work out but as a proven quality had a resale value. They also were less likely to down tools in the Championship like the 2018 signings did. The signings made a lot of sense for a team like Huddersfield Then we also signed Zanka, Lossl, Delpotre, Hadergjonaj and Mounie. Mounie aside they came for small fees and were workmanlike and the natural progression from when we shopped in Bundesligue 2. My view is that we should have been buying players from the Bundesliga 1 and using Wagner's knowledge of that league The other thing was that Hef, Schindler, Colin, Kachunga, Loewe all spoke good English. Likewise Zanka, Lossl, Depoitre, Mounie and Williams. When everyone in the dressing room can speak a common language it's got to help the dressing room and make it easier to settle in a new country. From what I saw Sobhi, Diakhaby and Mbenza didn't speak English when they signed. I think that made it harder to integrate and settle in the area Anyway it's water under the bridge. I wish DH well and thank him for all he's done. I've no doubt he'll be more annoyed by Kongolo and co than any of us

There's a saying that you are only as good as.....
DH's last act was to employ NW/RJ and that was a magnificent choice. How and why that choice had to be made can be debated but the outcome saved the season and has enabled Mr Nagle to have a much better platform from which to work.
We can't realistically assess the decision to sell to Mr Nagle as there are so many things we don't know but we can be hopeful it will be successful, for everyone.
I stand by my reasonable criticisms of DH but I have always balanced that by acknowledging the many good things he has done for HTAFC. His last act was very good and for that alone he deserves credit.
The truth is if Mr Nagle is successful DH's tenure will be remembered fondly and positively. If not people will look back more negatively. That is the nature of how people react. He is moving on and I hope he has a long and healthy life and, like all of us, enjoys the fortunes of HTAFC again.

I don’t get this exploitation of FFP thing that somebody mentioned.
What’s the point of blowing your brains out and then realising you’re still about £250-500m short of what’s need to sustain PL football. (bar one or two exceptions)
I know the PL is the holy grail for some on here, but it’s probably the biggest reason we see so much sniping on this forum & why so many clubs in the EFL walk a financial tightrope.
If you want to support a sustainable PL club you’d better start looking for another club to support.
That’s not suggesting I wouldn’t want us to compete for promotion, but the journey is so much better than the destination.

French speaking Diakhaby in Monaco, not far from Corsica where he grew up, is likely to be a very different person to French speaking Diakhaby in Huddersfield...'person' in terms of his general well-being and happiness. Culturally its chalk and cheese. Its easy to see how Scandinavian and German players would find that transition much easier Its something clubs maybe dont think about enough, especially with such young lads. Part of our steep learning curve that we'd probably do much better at next time. Would an experienced DoF not have bought Diakhaby for £10m like Jon suggests?? Not sure myself. When you look at where he was and what he had been doing, theres nothing to point to paying that for him being a mistake at the time.

Sometimes, when making a signing, you have to take a step back when, for example, a selling club wants £17m for Kongolo. This is the point where you have a look at other players that you could get for £17m. I would imagine that there was much better value for money out there. At this point you say to the selling club "£7m, take it or leave it". There was no great demand for Kongolo as far as I know so the ball is back in the selling club's court, as it were. Me just being an idealist?

That’s why you’ve got to be mad to buy a football club! (Hopefully Me Nagle isn’t reading this! )

The parachute monies were factored in paying the remaining wages and any transfer fees owed on the players we brought in thats how clubs work.

I wish the man no ill personally but he seems happy to blame everyone but himself. We could also point to the absolute pigs ear he made with premier league incomes, no plan, no competent DOF. Really believe he was hoping he could get all his money back and in doing so has hamstrung the club for the last 4 years. I'm just not going to go along with DH love in that's been growing in recent weeks. I would tend to agree about his portioning out blame, when for the majority of his tenure he was in full control, and has made some shocking decisions along with some good decisions too. I dont like these one way interviews that get put out, especially after that pathetic one where he was interviewed by some kid (Norwich fan possibly), where others cant or dont have the opportunity to put their view across. Some of the shambolic decisions around promotion to the Premier League and the Premier League era still leave a bitter taste, and have resulted in mainly fighting relegation every season (bar one), when if done and planned properly could have put us a fantastic footing to push on, and stop us being the club always looking over our shoulder at the bottom 3. It is just nice to have a fresh start to look forward to and see where it takes us to. Agree with this...time to move on...but....that video of DH tells me the guy was so intent on getting some cash back that he, and he alone, was prepared to put the club into Adminstration and therefor relegation to level 3. That tells you everything. In the end PH conceded and did a deal, for the benefit of the club. It was a situation of DH's own making but in the end, he still got burned for £m's. He was no genius, but to put HTAFC at risk like that was unforgiveable...He's no 'hero'... That era is now over thankfully (almost) ..so yes, time to move forward..a fresh start indeed. It would be interesting though to hear PH's version of all this...for balance.

I’m sick of people raking over where we went wrong in 2018, every dozen thread there’s someone who has all the answers. Now is quite an exciting time, a new era upon us yet so many tossers just want to stick the boot into Dean Hoyle.

What a weird take

Dean Hoyle - quite simply, you can judge all you like but for me, I'd have rather had him at the helm, than not. UTT

I hope Nagle gets more leeway and legacy from you.

Hoyle made a big mistake selling to Hodgkinson, but without him stepping in again, we'd have been in administration 18 months ago. Hoyle's threat to put us in admin two months ago was the kick up the arse that PH and/or his administrators needed in order to get the deal to sell to Nagle over the line. Hoyle's no saint but to suggest that Hodgkinson is somehow the saviour in this is just ludicrous.

A club that he hadn't paid for, and wasn't paying to run, despite claiming to be the legitimate owner so he could use it to help clear the debts of his failed businesses - he's the real hero here, right... ;-)

Do Hoyles NDA's still stand now neither of them are involved 🤔

The whole soap opera of the last season has been a shambles. 2 businessmen playing a PR game whilst focusing entirely on their own interests. Both having spoken so many untruths and wrapped everyone concerned in NDAs to create complete bemusement, derision and apathy for most of the season.
A long period of silence from all concerned would be the best outcome. Hopefully they both have the good grace to fade into the background and let KN enjoy a fresh start.

With total hindsight. At the time Hodgkinson was very much like him in 2008...a hugely successful businessman and lifelong fan with immense wealth that was tied up in his businesses. Not hindsight though. He was told by numerous board members at the that it wasn’t a good deal for him, PH or the club. Name them. Who are these 'anonymous' board members? They were totally absent when Dean was struggling with his health
