I want to be the first to apologise to the man for my comments on his so called selfish decision yesterday on the Dutch.
Lesson learn with regards to making up opinions until the facts are out.
If it is true that you have written off 40m worth of debt, I would like to thank you and your family for doing so, and hope that you enjoy your retirement and stay healthy.
The 2/3 years that you initially brought us were certainly the best I have witnessed in my lifetime and you have ended your tenure the right way.
Yes you have made mistakes on the way and yes we find ourselves in a horrible position currently of which you are partly to blame for, however thankyou for doing what's right for the club, when you could easily not have done.
Onwards and upwards, down to you Neil

Just shows how with no official news and message boards like this these days.. rumours snowball. Fiction becomes fact & gospel when nothing had been confirmed.
Hope Dean releases a statement or interview in future detailing bits that can be mentioned

He just needs to be patient as the next rumour on the takeover is just round the corner.

Given how shit our season has been and how uncertain our future has been and how much we have fallen since the premier league, it's clear that tensions amongst the fan base were high. The rumours did absolutely nothing to help the situation but let's hope all parties are now happy, we can move on and Dean can return to being a supporter.

Amazing how some fans complain at the price of a season ticket being expensive, slag a bloke off who’s been successful in business, but then watch him write off £40m. Most game wouldn’t write off £40 for Huddersfield

If the Daily Fail are correct and Dean has written off the club debt then fair play.
If this is indeed the case then I very much doubt he sold the club for a quid though?

At the end of the day if he's written off 40 mil that shows he's taken accountability for previous mistakes under his leadership that led to the loss of at least that amount.
Definitely not a case of all is forgiven, but he's done the right thing this time. I hope the new lot won't need two chances at doing a proper job of selling the club when their time comes.
I hope this draws a line under some of the current malaise. If we go down, new start!

I’d echo of all these sentiments. If it’s true that the debt is written off, then he’ll be remembered as a legend in my eyes. We all make mistakes, but what separates the good from the bad is an attempt to rectify them. Selling to the right people and letting the IOUs go, is great news. Thank you Dean for doing the right thing.

Maybe the Football League still have Hoyle's bank details for the remaining transfer fees for Billing, Grant, O'Brien and Toffolo amd that'll cushion the financial loss.

All he had to do to be a legend again, was hand the club his money. Who'd have thunk it?

All he had to do to be a legend again, was hand the club his money. Who'd have thunk it? Honestly speaking any bit of evidence that he has had the clubs best interest in mind would have done it for me. Now, it's a huge bonus that he has written off the entire debt and I can't do anything else than hold my hands up and admitt I was wrong about Dean and his intentions for the club. What else could he have done to pursuade people like me if not write off the debt? Probably not much in truth which make me feel a bit bad for him. Altough he have mainly himself, the lack of communication and his deal with Phil to blame for that. People will hopefully be able to draw a line under this chapter now and forgive him for a lot of things. We all make mistakes but if you admitt them (which Dean has effectively done by writing off the debt) you will be forgiven for most of it when it is clear you tried your best. For me Dean have regained much of the goodwill he once had, the statue is not back on but I will definately consider him our best ever owner and look back on his tenure with a smile (at least if these americans turn out to be half decent or better). It will be a boring time now that people will start agreeing with you though, Slapps

What could Dean do. 1) The club apparently needs £5M a year from any owner to keep afloat. That is with a budget that we has left us at the bottom of the Championship. 2) What assets does the club own? The training ground but not the land it sits on. Shares in the stadium that apparently needs £9M spending on it.
As a money making business it is not a worth anything.
the only thing that it has is that the club gives any potential owner a chance to spend large amounts of money in an effort to get in to the Premier league.
Owning a football club is essentially a ego plaything for the rich. The rich don't get that way by throwing money away.
So what is the club worth? Town as a League 1 club in our poor financial position, very little to nothing.
If this assessment is correct, Dean would have to keep on funding the club year on year building up the debt in the club or write off his debt and pass it on to someone else.

Oh how some posters on here who have liked the sound of their own voice far too much of late are going to be very, very quiet now.
Don’t worry, you can use the close season as an excuse.
Great for the rest of us who can actually start posting again.
Oh, and is there a pie maker in the Huddersfield area big enough to supply the amount of humble pie that needs to be eaten on here?.
I suspect not.

My read on this is dean has been bummed by Phil on the value of the shares and been forced to sell for nothing, because as others have said, the only assets are the players and they only cover some of the debt which is anything from 15-40m depending on how it's read.
Good luck to Dean and a well earned rest for him and his family.

BBC Radio Leeds' Paul Ogden
If and when completion happens, the transfer of ownership will mark the end of a historic era in Huddersfield Town's history, which would have been unthinkable without Dean Hoyle's drive, determination, and the tens of millions of pounds he spent - a very large chunk of which he will probably not see again.
Propelling Huddersfield into the Premier League was, in context, only as remarkable as the much earlier £100 season tickets and League One play-off final squad he financed, which included Kevin Kilbane, Benik Afobe and Damien Johnson, managed by Lee Clark.
As chairmen and owners go in modern-day football, Hoyle has been exceptionally accessible.
Pre-match Q&As with fans, heading out of town on the front of long-distance charity cycle rides, and buttering toast for underprivileged local schoolkids' breakfasts under the club's foundation banner - it all came easy to Hoyle because he was, and still is, a dyed-in-the-wool fan from boyhood.
Whoever the mysterious North American group turn out to be, they will no doubt be made welcome for their commitment alone. But in light of the money lost over his tenure, even by someone on the Times Rich List like Hoyle, the new owners need to be ready for the inevitable big question from supporters: "Why Huddersfield Town?"

The club has never had a better owner than Dean Hoyle.
I'm still very pleased that he decided at that game in 2008 that he had to get involved.
It hasn't all been rosy, and I was a huge critic of him at times long before it was acceptable, but if it wasn't for him, we would never have hit the heights we did.

That said, if he's eventually let go and sold us to a good buyer (to be seen), then that's fantastic and he'll get the plaudits I'm sure. Fine margins. Let's see who's bought us!

I'd love to think Dean has put his love for Town above all else and sold us to the best possible buyer through the best possible deal. Knowing what I believe Dean to be like, I doubt it, but I really hope he has - and he will get major, but very unexpected, credit from the likes of myself.

I for one salute Dean Hoyle for what he has done and I truly believe (maybe I’m naive) that he has always had HTAFC interests at heart, with a view of protecting his liabilities (who wouldn’t if being advised to do so or not?). He’s always been involved in the community and being from Mirfield he’s always stopped and talked to people about HTAFC.
Some of the vitriolic comments towards him have gone too far and he deserves respect. The negative comments and hatred towards him is simply disgusting, why any town fan should expect one man to punt in 10’s of millions of pounds every year is simply ridiculous, regardless of their personal wealth.
Most people are now all optimistic but I just think DH will be glad to be rid and it’s likely to be out of the frying pan and into the fire. The reality is, who’d want to buy HTAFC and spend 10’s or 100’s of millions making them great? It is simply pipe dream. However, I hope it’s a pipe dream come true.

All he had to do to be a legend again, was hand the club his money. Who'd have thunk it? And what about the people who were merely disappointed at some of the decisions which led to him seeing his money going down the drain? In the past we actually agreed that he had essentially wasted his own money. Let's look at the last 12 months. Had he backed Carlos but also put the club up for sale could he not have achieved a better deal for himself? It is also not unreasonable to suggest it's unlikely that the team would be facing relegation to League One. To balance this I would note the decision to contract Neil and Ronnie is probably going to cost him personally but that decision, and cost, could have been avoided. I have never have wanted him to spend willy nilly just use what we had, not forgetting that the success he enabled generated approximately 6 times what he put into the club, against a thought through long term plan. Irrespective of the amount of money he put in it is the personal time that I am more appreciative of. That is often overlooked and although I would be critical of some choices I will always respect the time he gave. It was certainly something that no one should forget. I know you don't agree but this, for me and I suspect others, wasn't about money it was about decisions and choices. Criticism was exacerbated because he essentially stopped communicating with the fanbase. I can understand why I the face of abuse on social media why he may have done so but there are many reasonable folk who would have welcomed the candour he previously offered. Many, like me, would have respected that and been far less critical of what we witnessed. It is grossly unbalanced to keep deriding people who have been critical by dismissing their critcism as being purely about money. Let me put on the record now; I won't judge the new custodians on how much they spend but their plan and it's execution. If we can get back to some straight talking about what to expect then that is how I will perceive if they are successful or not. I know you may think I am "singling you out" but as you persist with the same rhetoric, essentially about the entitlement some (and I do take your point to a degree) have to DHs cash, I have to challenge. I have a balanced and consistent view which I think is shared by a few. DH has seemingly done the right thing for the club. That is what I expected from the man who I have supported many times on here and generally. In supporting him I have always believed he wasn't immune to critcism. It's a balanced view that cannot be dismissed as acting like a spoiled child when things go awry. As I always say, it is what it is and we must move on. Can we draw a line under the "entitled" narrative now? It may have applied to a small few but it certainly didn't to many.
