Seems like sensible changes to me. Why people think the use of any expletives should be fine on a forum when, I hope, you would not use them in any other public place, baffles me. The English language gives you so many ways to get your point across why is there a need to swear? Can we use foreign swear words? |

Rubbish. I know thousands of words but I still prefer "fuck". |

So what happens if 3 yellows You become a "Graham Poll Terrier"  On the swearing thing, ever since the automatic substitution came in I've just been typing "card" anyway. I'm sure I will have used the actual C word at some point over the years, but I can't remember ever doing so. If we just use "card" is that considered an attempt to circumvent? |

Fine by me. Much prefer the route the current admins go down compared to the powertrippers we had previously. I think the board has been running a lot smoother since the change and I’m glad the current admin team explain their decisions. Absolutely. This group of admins are streets ahead. |

I never got the big deal over Nick. Annoying but hardly world-ending. Although I think I've said before he was banned not TOO long after I re-entered the DATM fray so maybe I hadn't had time to get truly annoyed by him  |

In the main seems fair. It won't surprise anyone to hear I think lifetime bans are sometimes appropriate, but I guess those people who would have qualified for them before will likely end up on a rolling 6 month ban.
I think the censorship is daft. Both in that it is unnecessary, but also poorly executed. If you refuse to rethink, that is your choice of course (although I do think it undemocratic, but then apparently I'm a "power tripper" so what does my opinion mater?) why not change it co "C***" or similar. Card is bloody confusing at times. (Every time you see the word "card" you now have to ask yourself if someone means card or c***, which is pure thundercardery).
anyway, it's a thankless task, keep on trucking admins. Enjoy dealing with Nick, Marcus and whatever other silly cards come back. I look forward to my first ban when Donkersley reappears, cos he's a full fucking deck of c****.

I'd like to point out that last time the subject of 'swearing' was debated on here, any changes were put to a public vote. The forum voted for unrestricted swearing ie. anything goes. What now makes Admins think that they can decide on the forum's behalf to make this change? As far as I can tell, there's been no 'public' issue with swearing on here, so why are Admins' personal preferences now more important than those of the great unwashed? Would be interested to hear a response to this from the admins. What has sparked this censoring of words other than personal preference from 3 people? |
