Though I’d look at possible signings from the three relegated clubs as there will be players in each squad who have no desire to play League 1 football.
Reading:
Tom Ince – we know what we’d be getting, has scored 9 league goals this season, knows the club. Adds much needed goals to midfield. Andy Yiadom – very experienced at this level, a leader too. Could be great competition for Turton and a mentor to Spencer.
Blackpool:
James Husband – decent left back at this level, had a loan spell here before, still only 29 (thought he was in his 30s already) Jerry Yates – 26 year old striker, scored 15 times in a very poor side. Only from Donny so a Yorkshire lad. Got 23 goals in Blackpool’s promotion season, just 9 last year but seems to have adjusted.
Wigan:
Will Keane – 12 goals, 3 assists in another poor side. Max Power – best name in football. Ryan Nyambe – another right back option, only 25 Thelo Aasgaard – only 21, played almost every game for Wigan in midfield, a real prospect
Any thoughts?

Common theme is that none of these sides have a decent ball playing CM which is what we desperately need.

Lucas Joao... Reading. Seventeen goals this season. Be a fair few chasing this lad already, would be a great signing for any Championship team.

Husband is atrocious. I'd like us to sign Bowler.

Husband is atrocious. I'd like us to sign Bowler. Think we're talking Championship relegated sides rather than hopefully relegated from the Prem. 😜

Thought this thread was a wind up when I saw the first couple of names.
Always liked Bowler but he's on loan from Forest/Olympiacos.
João is probably a bit too good for us but you never know if there's some cash flying around. Probably Tom Holmes and George Puskas for me from Reading.
Max Power and Theo Aasgard from Wigan, both solid championship squad players, would certainly be an upgrade on the fringes of the starting 11 we have now.
Blackpool Gabriel and Yates. I really like Yates I think he'd be a good player for us.

We can’t afford any Reading players … turns out they couldn’t either really!

My wife says the same. I'd like us to sign Bowler. Me too, if only in the hope that one day he scores 3 goals in one game for us. Strictly speaking though, he's now Forest's player. Also - he's reportedly been absolute garbage this season.

Common theme is that none of these sides have a decent ball playing CM which is what we desperately need. Not a relegated side, but Norwich have just released Kieren Dowell. If we could get him properly fit he’d be a brilliant addition. Played at the beginning of Wagners arrival when they were scoring goals for fun and loads of their fans saying it’s no coincidence the chances/goals stopped flowing when he got injured.

Good player but he'd be on relatively big bucks and he's injury prone. I don't think we can afford any more gambles. We'll probably have a slightly bigger recruitment budget in the close season, but it'll still need to be spent as wisely as possible. If I could have one player it'd be Matt Grimes from Swansea (not that they'll be willing to let him go). As others have said, Jerry Yates would be a good signing but I'm not sure that any of the relegated clubs have the midfield maestro we need.

Yates plus Joao would be some strike force, with Ward and Harratt as backup. Loan out Simpson and Phillips.
Personally would have liked to have seen more of Knockhaert. Looked good when he did play. But clearly something wasn’t right there.
Definitely need to strengthen our midfield with a couple of players who can really pass, move and retain possession.
Hopefully keep Nicholls, Helik. Possibly Headley to make left back/wingback his own. Similar attacking right back needed. Possibly a ball playing centre back too assuming we don’t keep both Lees and Pearson.
Would look to keep Koroma and sign Hungbo.
Would look to move on: Rhodes, Thomas, High, Ruffels, Schofield.

Maybe we should be looking at sides relegated from prem in due course than those relegated from our own division or is that overreaching financially?

Sign all these buggers and we're in the same mess as this season. Agreed - I'd hope under new management we see a more aspirational recruitment strategy than scooping up relegation fodder.

Yates has a year (with a club option for a further year) left on his contract, so he won’t be cheap. £1.5-2 million I’d imagine. I don’t know if anyone knows if we’re going to turn into the sort of club that can afford to pay that kind of money.
The other player I’d look at is Thelo Aasgaard from Wigan. Joao is decent on his day, but slightly injury prone?

Agreed, scored goals in a poor side. Probably got a 20 goal striker there in a better side with better service.

People saying we can’t afford x y or z player. How do you know? Literally everything about the club is in the air at this point, apart from what league we’re playing in next season.
We could start throwing money around or it could be a continuation of now, but we don’t know yet.

This thread is heartless and mercenary, particularly as it comes just hours after we nearly got relegated ourselves.
I love it.

Jerry Yates and Callum Lang.
Lucas Joao maybe depending on what he earns.
Spin the question..
Is there anyone from the promoted teams who may be surplus to requirements?
