i can think of a few players who were utter dog-egg on loan for us but went on to have decent careers. Lucas Jutkiewicz or however you spell it for example. Trevoh Chalobah was bang average until the almost entire season midfield experiment was abandoned, and then he was great, although I didn't think he would progress like he did. He played like a centre back in midfield! A manager with a good tactical brain would've made an excellent side out of the players we had when Chalobah was here.

He only managed 141 minutes on loan at Burton in League 1 with no goals or assists so he doesn't seem to be progressing. The younger ones who have been good are the ones who have done well on loan, Headley at Harrogate & Spencer at Motherwell spring to mind. i can think of a few players who were utter dog-egg on loan for us but went on to have decent careers. Lucas Jutkiewicz or however you spell it for example. Jutkiewicz had something about him but was definitely still filling out when he played for us, put himself about but nowhere near the bruising number 9 he became. I seem to remember he'd been recently injured as well. Spitting his dummy out over being subbed didn't help either

I saw Diakhaby have a couple of good games. I've never seen Hudlin have a good game. Closest was Watford, where let's say he made the absolute most of his limited quality. He worked very hard and held up the ball well. Nowhere near the level required though and doesn't seem to have progressed in his 2 seasons here. Was worth a try, or would've been if we backed it up with signing a proven striker alongside him, rather than waiting 3 months til we got relegated. That's the absolute minimum for me. If a player gives 100% but is rubbish, i won't hold it against them. If they've come from non-league I'll even give a bit more leeway to take their time getting up to speed, as don't we all love an underdog story? (retreats to cover, dons tin helmet!) We've had some hits and misses from the non-league game, and it's always a bit of a gamble. Bullock and Jepson were hits but came with a bit of baggage. Novak and Lolley were hits without so much baggage (though Joe did have a few off-the-field issues when he first joined, allegedly). In both cases the club reached levels beyond their ability in the end, which wasn't really their fault... though Lolley's celebration with the Scabs still feels a bit disrespectful. From the modern day I'd put Sorba in the same category as Bullock and Jepson. At least he'll either attract a decent fee, or get his head right under MD and tear it up in League One... 🤞 Misses for me over the years would be Whittington (pot-head), Hurst (signed the wrong brother), Denton (never quite good enough), that lad from Dulwich Hamlet whose name escapes me- Carr? (also not good enough). Not an exhaustive list by the way. Sadly I don't see Hudlin making it with us. He's occasionally shown a decent touch for a big lad but only in fleeting glimpses, mostly against lesser opposition like the Cornish pub teams of last summer. His surprising lack of ability in the air coupled with his ungainly stature leads to obvious Quaner comparisons- but big Coll had come through professional club youth systems so had the strength and stamina to cope with the rigours of higher-level football. He also had more ability than many give him credit for, not least because he looked so inelegant due to his build and height. We used to joke that his secret weapon was that he didn't know what he'd do, so how could an opposing defender anticipate it? Thing is, I don't think he was quite as clueless as he looked. Hudlin just doesn't seem to quite have the ability, stamina or nous to compete at FL level sadly. I'd love for him to prove me wrong as long as he's wearing a Town shirt when he does it.

Anyone that saw him play for Solihull would have known that he was nowhere near the required standard for Championship football, yet they still signed him anyway. Instead of wasting 100s of thousands on guff like Simpson, Hudlin and all the rest, I'd rather us have used all that money to have signed one quality player. I dread to think how much we've wasted on guff like them.

Hudlin is the worst player I've ever seen in a Town shirt. Harratt is nowhere near that. I'd rather a Hudlin, than Diakhaby honestly High praise indeed!

Had a fun day today against the Bantams by all accounts and then his Dad allegedly fighting a few City Fans after the game! Had a few videos sent from a City mate at the game of the chants although looks like Kian was the one with last laugh with the scoreline! Attachments:

Even Hudlins playing and scoring
