When the Town players used to run from Leeds Road & back via Rawthorpe in the early 70's he would position himself near half way to make sure no one was slouching or taking a short cut..........Anyone caught would have to do it again, well known Greavsie & HC were two of the hardest trainers in football, it worked.

Bob Parker told me that on the long-distance runs the players would cut through ICI and it got to the stage where they knew some of the workers quite well and they'd be waving at them as they came through and said he once got a lift back to Leeds Road in a coal wagon! Obviously before Greavsie's time!

Wow, I never knew! Dennis Clarke mentioned your Dad in his interview (due to be published in a few weeks). "Every morning, Frank would take a ball out of Henry Cockburn’s bag, juggle it 10 times and then volley it into the net. And everytime without fail, Henry would say, ‘if you pull a muscle, you’ll get me the sack!’" John Dungworth also mentioned him in his interview, and his name has cropped up a lot in conversations with the likes of Terry Dolan, Les Chapman and Alan Sweeney. All have spoken highly of him and have told some funny stories. One involved Bob Newton in a reserve game where he went down injured, and your Dad came on with the bucket and sponge and just as he got there, Newt got up and ran off Thank you mate. Great days at Town and then some not do great days!! Both Dad and Greavsie remained good friends until Dad died. Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread. UTT.

There's another one I've just remembered from Grahame McGifford talking about his home debut against Watford in 1973; "I remember being in the changing room, an 18-year-old kid full of spots and wondering what I was doing there! Henry Cockburn [coach] sat next to me and said, ‘here’s a bit of team spirit for you’. “He had a half-bottle of whiskey and said ‘have a glug of this!’ I didn’t drink, but I had a glug of it. They all did it - I didn’t know! I went out and within 10 minutes I’d been booked! But that was Henry’s way of relaxing you”. If any more mentions of your Dad come up (and I'm sure they will), I'll message you.

It was good to see Miller drop his shoulder on Saturday and go past the defender - something that Sorba lacked in his game in my opinion - I don’t remember a time when he beat the defender with quick feet, going one way and then going the other leaving the defender flat footed. I hope he does well in France but I won’t miss him playing for us I must admit. That’s was always my greatest playing criticism of Sorba until last season, where he definitely did more with the ball at his feet. He took lads on on their outsides and also drove with the ball through the middle. It wasn’t always successful but he deffo became less one dimensional imo. My real issue with him was his inconsistent attitude. Some days he was the team player and other days, it looked like he wanted to scrap everybody, including his own teammates. I’m not surprised he got a tug or two off Tom Lees off the pitch.

Didn't know Lees went around tugging off his team mates 😅 I always criticised Sorba for being one dimensional, never beat a player one on one with a trick and quite often he was shown as not being that quick in a sprint. I always felt he was a walking red aswell. Got lucky a few times with off the ball antics.

What a fall from grace. Couldn't stand the arrogant c***. Hardly a "fall from grace" - the bloke's nearly 36 and has over 530 career apps under his belt. He's probably grateful that his legs can still get him around the field at any level. No idea if he's arrogant or not as I've never met the guy, but I bet he speaks very highly of you. How old is Hogg again?

Really? Who else do you put in that bracket? Most of last season's squad. Jack Hunt. Adam Clayton. Kevin Sharp. Eddie Youds. not disagreeing with you here but always find it interesting when people keep saying our most of the squad from last year were bad eggs but when single players from the squad are discussed (most of them are still here by the way) it’s usually only 2 or 3 that people actually think fit into that category

Credit to anyone still playing at the other side of 35, but to have dropped into the regional leagues at that point is by no means a "fall from grace" when many players have hung their boots up for the last time before that point.

When he first joined us my mate called him '3 lungs'.

When my dear old departed dad was coach at Town you couldn’t have met two more opposing characters. One quiet and unassuming and then there was Frankie.😊 They got on like a house on fire which I think tells you a lot about the sort of bloke FW was. Top man. Top men. UTT. So was your Dad along with Greaves

I heard about Frank Worthington from my mum.One of the old ex-town players used to live on our street and a lot of the other players used to turn up at his house (I bet that rarely happens these days!!).My mum's opinion was that he was a bit bigheaded and when I was a pizza delivery driver 25 or so years later when he lived in Outlane,he never once gave me a tip and was usually pretty miserable when answering the door so I'm tempted to believe her!! Are we supposed to tip pizza delivery drivers? Never knew that!🤷♂️ New one on me too, I usually round up to nearest quid (same with taxis and other delivery folk) but I would't really class that as a tip?

Someone of Henry Cockburn's stature should defo have his own thread on Datm, watching the film last night about the life of Bert Trautmann reminded me that Henry also won the FA cup around the same time as BT did, but with Man Utd who he played for many years (Greaves did too)........It may well have been HC who introduced Ian to the Town board?

Just looked up the stats for Toulouse v Nantes yesterday. Finished goalless, Sorba was subbed off in the 90th min. Created three chances, and hit the bar in the first half.

I remember when he first played for us and he made a big impression with his 100% commitment and non stop running. He seems to be in a similar mode with Nantes and his second chance with Wales. However, the fact that no championship club wanted to buy him speaks volumes. Let's see how long the Nantes honeymoon lasts, it didn't last too long at Blackburn.

Sounds like he had a very good game in his favoured position, not left wing back like they’ve played him before. Good luck to him, not least because he’s still our player.

We don’t need footballers like him at our club. We need winners. Since we got rid of the bad egg the remaining players have really shown how much of negative impact Sorba had on them. They’ve shown the perfect attitude in all matches recently. Its fair to say Sorba was the problem and the reason we went down.

By that logic, only 1 player, Rudoni, was wanted by a championship club. Speaks volumes about Nicholls, Helik etc.
