www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68709008Foster sacked and will be replaced by Director of Football Neil Dewsnip and first-team coach Kevin Nancekivell for the rest of the season. So effectively like Cartwright appointing himself to be the manager here! Simon Ireland.. appointed a coach under foster, will be staying on. ( lets hope hes as successful a set piece coach there as he was here!) I find it odd that not one of the clubs around us has gone for Warnock. Not even Sunderland or Watford who are just bumbling through to the seasons end. Do you think we put a condition on Warnocks severance package that he isn't allowed to take another championship job this season? Smart move if so.

It was obviously going to be on the cards that come February struggling clubs would look to change managers and he'd be high on the list of possibilities at many of them. With his track record of pulling off survivals if it's something we could stop then it would make sense. Might explain why he took the job at Aberdeen, which was a weird move I thought. Nothing to achieve there, and it looked like he was managing to get them relegated . Theyve picked up no end since he left.

I'm a bit surprised no-one else has turned to him but I don't think there's any clause like you suggest; I'd be very surprised if Warnock would agree to anything like that. It's time clubs looked forward and moved away from the old ways of the likes of Warnock (both on the pitch and the way he conducts himself behind the scenes as well) and maybe that's why. For that reason there's certainly no logic why Sunderland or Watford would have appointed him.

Warnock got a very big pay-off. Nagle has made mistakes but as business man he is clearly very good. You don’t become a billionaire if not.
Clause seems like an obvious smart move to me and does explain the Aberdeen job.

We will get relegated on our own merit anyway so if that is the case then more money down the drain.

I don't know whether NW is particularly motivated by money, but with the offer of a guaranteed wage until May he might have thought 'a bird in the hand...' etc ? I mean he wasn't guaranteed to be offered another job .

I wonder how long Warnock will keep going? I suppose it is in his blood and as long as clubs come looking, he will keep going. I would have thought a bit of TV work and his talking tours would feed his obvious ego but obviously not. Maybe he has got it right and football coaching is what keeps him young. Fair play to him but I hope to be holidaying and gardening at his age.

Either that or they’ve heard what really went on for us to ditch him? But the news didn’t get as far as Aberdeen? Irrespective of the insistence (from the Iberian peninsula and elsewhere) that he was finally unmasked as a villain after managing for 40 years, I will be surprised if this wasn’t the cover story for the real reason(s) he was sacked - take your pick from panic that we had only one point from four games, the spat after the Norwich game or that Messrs Edwards and Cartwright didn’t want to play second and third fiddle to him, or maybe elements of all three.

My guess is a clash of personalities and a DoF unprepared to yield to the manager, even for a short and temporary period. Would explain the lack of transfers and the early change, which despite the BS pedaled and swallowed by many on here was NOT the initial plan at all. Up to JE to bang their heads together or get rid of one, backed the wrong horse so L1 here we come. That's my guess. Weird thing is they initially made the correct decision in keeping on NW which was a coup and showed good judgement when you consider timescales, the state of the squad etc. They then seemingly decided they didn't need him after all and the squad would do just fine. Idiotic.

Plymouth are gonna sack their manager..Just saying! What another one 😮. Two in two days would be a record, especially as the DOF has appointed himself until the end of the season. So unless he sacks himself.....

Or the other alternative.. that hes 75, semi-retired, lives in Cornwall and he himself didnt want the job longer than a few months, so having been kept on to see us through the summer whilst a takeover was completed and a board was assembled, he was always going to be replaced with a more permanent option as soon as the one they wanted was sourced. It's possible he himself brought about that happening a couple of months sooner than anyone anticipated and in hindsight sooner than was good for the club with the choice they ( perhaps hurriedly ) made.

Wasn't Moore appointed very close to the completion of his non-compete clause? Which made it seem he had been lined up for a long time. I may be wrong, just recall that being stated at the time. I know Warnock likely played silly beggars, the issue was the replacement.

People suggested there was a 90 day ( I think ) period where he couldn't take another job as part of his severence package from Wednesday and we appointed him as soon as that had ended. No idea if thats true or not.

In other words, they fked up, big time. Let's just say it as it is. No point defending the indefensible. No hindsight needed either, none whatsoever. Read this board back if you want proof. "As soon as the one they wanted was sourced", that's a good one ROFL. Not just because he's such a crap manager but also because he left Wednesday in JUNE.

You might not like their choice and you might have thought it was a mistake at the time,, but they looked at his track record and thought he'd be a good appointment. I thought it was a reasonable appointment myself at the time for the same reasons..but it was a mistake. Half the clubs in the league will appoint a manager thinking it'll be a good appointment and will make a mistake. Thats why the average length of time in the job for managers in the EFL is only about 8 months. It's 'defensible' because it's such a difficult decision to get right IMO.
Just because he left Wednesday in June doesnt automatically mean he was available in June. You'd have to know the details of his severance package.

Just because he left Wednesday in June doesnt automatically mean he was available in June. You'd have to know the details of his severance package. The big issue, other than the choice, is the fact they looked at the squad, after the bollocks they'd made of the window and somehow thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the only man capable of getting a tune out of it. No guesswork needed, we'd just played an entire season demonstrating just how weak the squad was. It was always going to take a very special manager to stand a chance of keeping the club in the league and they chose DM who had no such past experience or track record. Nothing to suggest he could match the miracle worker they'd just got rid of. So the idiot or idiots who assessed the squad and decided it was a good idea aren't fit for purpose due to their judgement being so very poor. They obviously then compound the mistake by hanging on way too long before admitting the mistake and bringing in the wrong players in Jan, followed by possibly the wrong manager for what had to be a salvage job at that stage. Indefensible imo, sure to cost millions, perhaps to cost league status, peoples livelihoods and tens of millions.

Dont agree Moore had no track record. He had a very impressive track record at 3 previous clubs.
warnock wasnt really getting a tune out of the squad this season though was he. His points per game was only marginally better than Moore ended up getting, and Moore spent most of the time contending with almost half the squad being out. I think the previous season showed that when we didnt have an unusually bad injury situation going on ( like Fotheringham had most of the time ) and the side was motivated properly, then we were more than competitive. Problem this season was that we soon lurched into an even worse injury crisis.
Wrong players in January? Matos has been a success IMO.. the other 3, well if we'd had a time machine we could have known they'd pick up injuries and illnesses...but that aside a pacy centre back and 2 strikers with good scoring records seemed like a good move. Probably needed a creative midfielder too, but that didnt happen.
Picking a manager who will end up being a success is a stab in the dark IMO. The current one probably has a better CV than any appointment this clubs ever made, including working wonders at clubs similar to this one. Even thats no guarantee hell be a success. He might take us down even. There are so many variables and unknowns..largely down to pot luck. Thats why getting it wrong is nothing like 'indefensible' IMO.
The only person who it'll cost millions is the person making the decision. So that's fair enough IMO. On his wallet be it.

Think the mistake was keeping him on in the first place with scant understanding of what he is like as a manager. Once they decided they couldn’t work with him we were chasing our tails and have continued to do so ever since.
Tensions must have been building all through the summer though because what Warnock managed to bring in player wise was extremely poor, in hindsight it feels like there was some brokership at play already then.
