By Alan Nixon
Huddersfield will cash in on midfielder Brahima Diarra in the window - with Championship interest.
Diarra was linked with Leicester City when they were in the Premier League and they may return with an offer.
Terriers will sell Diarra rather than let his deal run down. Darren Moore is hoping for some early arrivals with his transfer team working on a surprise foreign capture.
And another Nixon article this morning:
Ambitious Hull City are keen to sign Leeds United’s out of favour forward Joe Gelhardt.
The Tigers want to make the play offs and think Gelhardt could help them. He is not in Daniel Farke’s side and could go out on loan.
Several Championship clubs are keen but Hull head the list. However they would have to pay top wages and also offer first team games.
Hull chief Liam Rosenior has a handful of top attackers already but will look to make space for Gelhardt.
Huddersfield are another club keen on Gelhardt who spent the second half of last season at Sunderland.

Promising to me that we’re aiming for players like Gelhardt, get 4 or 5 above average championship players like that and suddenly we’ve got a good squad. I suppose the challenge is convincing them to come to Huddersfield over teams like Hull…

Not many will want to sign if we are bottom 3 and playing with 20/30 percent possession every week, unless we either offer big money or clubs are happy to loan players to a relegation scrap.

That’s the thing, you have to convince a player/players that we’re not going to be in a relegation battle. Or failing that, offer big money. Neither of which are likely to happen.

However, over the couple of seasons he's been in and out of the side, I can't remember him doing anything notable for us in terms of either assisting or scoring. All I've seem is the occasional mazy dribble which ends in nothing. I cringe a bit when he takes the field, as he just gives the ball away so easily in dangerous areas at both ends of the pitch. I hope we cash in if someone's willing to cough up.

Did nowt for the Chesties in the greedy league and can't get a look in this season, if they're happy to loan him out 🤔. Small, and only scored 6 goals in 75 games according to his Wiki page 🤷

Not the sort of player I’d be turning my nose up at, especially on a permanent deal.

How many goals/assists does Diarra have? I can’t remember any.

Really do not understand the hype around Geldhart. Ward has a better games to goals ratio...

Really do not understand the hype around Geldhart. Ward has a better games to goals ratio... That’s because you probably haven’t watched him play much and are basing your opinion on Wikipedia stats. I’m not saying he’s ’hype’ worthy but he would most definitely improve us.

Wouldn’t it be better to just give Diarra a proper run of games? He’s something different to the rest of the midfielders we have. Without Rudoni, there’s not much skill, creativity, excitement. He runs with the ball, beats players. Yes, he’s still raw and prone to errors, but so is everyone else in our squad and surely this is where coaches earn their money by coaching the talent. Give him a chance to develop, let’s see what he can do, rather than just lose him for peanuts.

Gelhardt would be a “yes” from me. He’ll definitely come good at some stage. I know a lifelong Wigan season ticketholder who knows his football and reckons he’s the best young player he’s ever seen.

I’m not saying he’s ’hype’ worthy but he would most definitely improve us. Do you watch him very often, his stats say he scores less than a goal every 12 games. We've got 3 strikers that don't score and one that scores in league 1, how many more of the same ilk do we want 🤷. And signing him from the Chesties probably wouldn't give him much leeway. I can't remember the last successful signing from them, Parsley maybe 🤷.

My mate rates him anyway and has been around long enough that I trust his opinions on players. Although he didn’t rate Nicholls when he was at Wigan, but he was just a daft young lad back then, by all accounts.

Not saying he is a bad player, but in my opinion, way over hyped and many would be disappointed.

Would cash in on Diarra whilst we can . He is so talented when it comes to dribbling but simply has no end product week in week out . He doesn’t pass , he can’t shoot.
I’ve no doubt he’ll go and be a success somewhere but I don’t think he will here.
Gelhardt is a no brainer for me . Strength in depth , versatile and better than we’ve already got .
Fundamentals for me are a striker , creative centre mid then a good right back (as a starter). We also need another winger and ideally another striker !

I gather gelhardt is currently injured and hasn’t trained for around a month.according to a mate of the Leeds persuasion. So imagine it’s a done deal we’ll have him 😂

I did start to wonder about the likelihood of Diarra signing a new contract once Camara left last summer.
If we sell him this window we would at least have some opportunity to control the terms of the deal (particularly any sell on %).
If we allow his contract to expire and he moves to an English club, our compensation could end up being determined by a PFCC tribunal. If he were to move abroad we would end up with a relative pittance on the FIFA tariff.

I think the winger would be the one to give way as we do have 3 or 4 options there all of which are currently starting though not all wide(koroma burgzorg sorba) and 1 who ideally you wouldn’t play there but is more than capable(rudoni) Incidentally if we could get one it would be on the right.still like the look of poku at Peterborough.

A few little bits i heard.
Diarra, has a contract on the table from Town to stay on, but is currently not signing it I would suggest if he doesnt sign he will be gone in January.
Another first team squad member could leave the club in January, take a look at contract situations and it will give you a clue.
Edwards, told he will be going back as Ollie Turton should be back during January.
Rhodes, if we can get a striker in early doors then JR may not come back, however I am told Darren wants to have JR back if possible. Personally I think he would be a great option even if jsut for the bench one or two goals for JR could make the difference this season.
Incomings we have made contact with a number of clubs and agents already and some positive discussions already to strengthen the squad, it could be the busiest January in years for us, especially if 3 leave we would need to bring 5 or 6 to strengthen the squad if this happens.

Because neither of them have done much of note for us.

Because neither of them have done much of note for us. Nakayama hasn’t looked the same player since injury and even before then I had my doubts over his capability for English football. Technically he’s fantastic, great range of passing but I’ve lost count of how many times he’s beaten off the ball and in the air by players he shouldn’t be losing contests against. It’s just sadly not worked out here for him in the main but he is a talented lad. Diarra, young and raw but he’s never really kicked on - if he doesn’t want to sign a new deal then let’s move on. Same as Camara (whose gone on to do absolutely nothing with Udinese, 1 appearance.)

He really is a left back and we dont play with full backs I think some confidence has been lost with his bad ankle injury he looks fine on the ball but really struggling to defend correctly. Diarra the club want to keep him down and the offer is there to stay but currently nothing is signed, I have a feeling his agent has told him he can get more elsewhere, I think he needs a season at a top end league one team and playing every week to get stronger. Many at the club believe he will be a premier league player in a few years time.
