They did...see my post about half a second before yours Didn't they only bring a few hundred in the end? my memory says it was a Sunday as well. I don't remember totally on either count tbh! I remember meeting my Hull mate though & us going on the demo together before the game.

Is there a link to the official version of that story? I’m not suggesting it’s been embellished, just surprised about the public transport thing more than anything. What if you were a Toon supporter living in Sunderland for instance? The whole thing does feel a bit 1984 though, and whilst this is their big local derby, what’s the difference between this and other Toon away games where tempers might flare? I’m surprised we’ve not seen more about this, given it’s a high profile PL side. Not sure, I was listening in the car to 5live and the commentator explained it more than once. I suppose you had to go to Newcastle to get on the bus no matter where you live. They're not even that close, about as far as Town to Leeds 15 miles. . A replay would have seen the exact same restrictions put in place for Sunderland fans also. My mate went to the 'old firm' game last week & took a Rangers pal in the Celtic end with a spare ticket he had, he's been supporting Celts for 50+ years & is furious that away fans are currently banned because of a few 'sectarian scum bastards' (his words)......The vast majority of fans get on with rivals, even when we lost 5-1 at Beeston once we went had a drink with the Lids lot & many of them bought us drinks, it felt like bloody Xmas to the poor buggers.

Hard to believe that that pitch wasn't fit to play on 5 days later, ha ha. I did my knee playing on a heavy pitch (like many others), so it must have been bad for them to postpone back then, although later years Town pitch was like a bit of grass on top of sharp sand. Leeds Road hosted many semi finals years back & the 1st semi outside London was also held in Huddersfield at Fartown......Villa Park would be more of a neutral venue for United these days. Didn't know about the Fartown game but have now googled it. 1882, Blackburn v The Wednesday, 0-0, Blackburn won 5-1 in the replay in Manchester. Old Etonians won the final 1-0 but only because Rovers's plebs were too busy doffing their caps. There was a Netflix series about the Scotsmen who played for Blackburn (after they were poached from Darwin), wasn't there Westie?

I have a mate, born & bred in Hull & a lifelong Hull City fan. When we had our infamous bubble match against them, he was told he'd have to go to Hull & travel on the coach to the game, meaning either a train fare or driving then having to return on the coach to drive back to Huddersfield. In the end, I think the Police backed down a little & he didn't have to do that but it's clearly still the case that people are having to do similar things. Leeds v Derby the day after had no restrictions on travelling fans, which the WY Police had great difficulty in justifying when Hull complained.

Fair play to the BBC for putting Maidstone on. There was no chance ITV would.

I was so wishing for Wigan to knock them out of Monday.

I was so wishing for Wigan to knock them out of Monday. A quick Google suggests 86 of the last 87 have been live on TV. The missing one was a game against Derby which I think wasn't picked because there had been a backlash against the fact that they were always picked.

I bet they were furious when they missed out They were. 😂😂 And because it was at Old Trafford, Man Utd had full control over the ticket prices and charged the Derby fans £45. Mind you Mel Morris (you know the one that the Derby fans now can't stand?) subsidised it down to £30
