Absolute money for old rope is punditry, isn't it. Anyone can get a gig nowadays if you've ever kicked a ball. I quite like Roy Keane, but only because he's amusingly bitter. I can't thing of a single one of them who either tells me something interesting or about a nuance I haven't noticed in a game. Micah Richards is the one who irritates me. Seems like a nice enough fella, but he knows nothing absolutely diddly squat about football; despite having played it at the highest level.

Sensitive bunch are football fans. I never really got why folk get so bothered about pundits having their allegiances - if anything it adds some personality in a seriously sanitised bore fest.. Neville, carragher, keane... all have their colours unmistakably nailed to the mast, but 3 of the best to watch imo
Lot of time for Ian Wright, myself.
God forbid we end up with more jenas-bots who drone on with zero character

Referring to players by nicknames or Christian names is a funny one too but like when you see refs doing it to when they’re smiling with arms around each other.

. . . and without opening old wounds, one of the very few opposition players that I have applauded off the pitch after a master-class.

Of course pundits support teams, everyone knows which teams Lineker, Shearer, Wright, Neville, Carragher etc support and they're pundits not political broadcasters why do they have to be completely impartial? If anything it's less fake. Neville is as critical of Manchester United as anyone.
I would say that maybe it's the setting they're in that can make them seem boring. Lineker, Shearer and Richards have a podcast where Lineker and Shearer show far more personality and the same with Neville, Carragher, Keane and Wright, the first 3 in particular are very different on those than in a studio, Keane is just very dry which comes across very different when doing his punditry.
Don't really mind any of these in particular, Micah Richards (also does have knowledge of the game just comes off in a way that he doesn't) clearly just loves life , have absolutely no issue with that good on him the world would be a better place with more people like that.
Others like Murphy, Jenas, Keown, Dixon could tell me the most insightful thing I've ever heard (they won't) and I'd miss it because I'd be staring in to space till they'd stopped talking.

He's quite happy to criticise Utd and praise the opposition, you're right about Carragher though

Quite like Danny Murphy especially on talk sport he knows the game and says it as it is mostly, think neville, Keane are decent and I like jobi mcanuff who does most EFL games.

Funny how it's mostly the elite teams that represent match of the day, what about representatives say from Luton, Bournemouth, Burnley, Sheffield U, wonder what ref fixing exposure would be spouted, the viewing figures would go through the roof.
That's why the BBC keep it closed shop and probably under orders from the elite.

Chances are there's a little, non elite, team from about 20 miles away that will get their share of pundits next season 🫣

If only I could 'like ' your post 1 million times... Strange phenomenon that isn't it, and very fecking annoying! Another weird one is the ex Bristol City keeper Dan Bentley. For some reason always gets called by his full name in commentary rather than just Bentley!

Read an article about Souness saying he supports Bournemouth,so why doesn't he waffle on about them a bit more?

There are loads of players who only get referred to by their full name, and never just their surname, it’s a curious thing… Solly March Barry Bannan Nick Pope Reece James Delle Ali Billy Gilmour Dan Burn

Another Saturday, a normal 5.30 meeting with the BBC and the pundits.
Right guys once again red cards, penalty decisions, not looking great again, we know how corrupt refs are, but we must play caution to the wind, and must not expose it, bounce around it and maybe be light hearted about the decisions, what you must not do is get drawn in and make things worse than it is.

Christ alive.
The same clowns who moan about football ‘losing its soul’ then bang on about a pundit saying ‘we’ when talking about a club who have a statue of him outside their ground.
