I posted a bit back that if we had forty points or more by the international break I fancied us to avoid the drop.....We now need a few favours, Norwich still to play SW, Brum & PA, any two from those three, providing we help ourselves too.

It will take luck, skill, heart, clever coaching and some moments of magic from the likes of Koroma to keep us in the league. Anything could happen. It's feeling a bit 2001 to me.

If it goes down to the last game, like it did in 2001, then we're stuffed. I can't see us getting anything at Ipswich. At least I can watch it at home, rather than being at the game. The Birmingham game in 2001 was the worst feeling ever at a Town game and my first memory of watching Town was against Arsenal in August 1971. I couldn't watch the end of the Birmingham match, I went and sat on the floor of the Kilner Bank concorse for the last 5 minutes.

No sign of any of those at the moment. Consensus is 4 wins needed at least - with only 8 wins in 38 so far, no players in form, no striker, no apparent tactical improvement from the new manager. Looking grim. Edit: it won’t be like 2001 because the reason that stung so badly was that we thought we were safe before the final match - unlikely to be the case in 2024.

Gonna put my neck on the line and say goal difference will send a team down this season.

I'm pretty sure the fans of the 6 other clubs will be feeling as twitchy as we are...
Thing for Town is over the past 5 games Brum (1 point),Plymouth (4 pts) , Blackburn (4 pts) have less than the 5 points we got. Sadly Wednesday, QPR and Millwall look like they'll escape...on current form. Stoke are sort of inbetween..
To me it's 2 from Town, Brum, Stoke, Plymouth and Blackburn .... Town need 3 points asap, followed by another 3pts , the table could suddenly look very different...2 losses and the gap could 4 or 5 points and that would look alarming with 6 to play...

Think we need 12 points to stay up , so winning half the games will do (easier said than done)
I look at Cov, Millwall, Swansea and Brum at home and say 8 points is the minimum required - allowing for a loss if need be.
I look at Stoke, Bristol , Preston and Ipswich and believe 6+ is feasible but they’re all places we tend to struggle .
Really believe we need to be above Stoke and Brum by the time we play them to make the game more in our favour otherwise can see them happy to sit back and settle for a point .

I believe we are down simply because we cant string two results together and a new manager who doesn't know what his best team is, on the plus point I'll be able to visit my favorite London away day next season "Charlton".

I don't really take any notice of who has who at this stage.
You see it every year, anybody can beat anyone when thebstakes are high.
We could have the hardest run in and survive and or the easiest and go down.
There will be many twist in the bottom 3.
Priority is beating Stoke and Birmigham when we play them.

At what stage will AB say it's time to be bold and go for the win ?
We surely can't dawdle along for the next 4 or 5 games taking a draw and playing conservative football..surely the time is now to play every game like it's the last and a win is an absolute must.

Really hope it doesn't go down to the final day. I'll be on a plane before full-time so I won't know if we've stayed up or gone down until the plane lands.

Quite a bit of bother after that game & with Sky tv almost certain to move our last home game v Brum this season I can't see the cops being too happy about a later kick off (ie Fri/Mon night or even Sat @5-30).......More likely to be Sat/Sun 12-30/noon then.

This is the bit that I don't get. Against the Chesties we were pushing for a win right up to the death. A fortnight later against a vastly inferior opponent we're scared to lose. There's talk of fragile self belief. That's what's worrying me. More than the result, more than the poor performance. If there's one thing that a side in a relegation battle needs it's self-belief. We can stay up. We absolutely can. We're good enough to stay up. There's enough talent in our squad that we should. But increasingly I'm of a mind that I don't think we will.

My biggest concern is that we don’t seem capable of seeing out a win in a tight game. Even if we went 1-0 up in the 70th minute against Coventry I’d fancy us to concede! A few injury time winners would be nice!!!

Just wish we could get two quick wins.
Not only will the table look better but it puts pressure on the others.
I can but dream !!!

If Karma is actually a thing, then surely we get to relegate them Brummie wankers in our final home game and get to sing them a few songs....

We did end up getting promoted to the Premier League though, so, y’know, swings and roundabouts … Agree it’d be nice to send them down.

None of us have any clue really. Any team can beat any other in this league. What WE have to do though is sort ourselves out. Didnt see any of sat but cardiff away was a disgrace as was 2nd half v wba. No passion, no energy, no desire, no quality - unacceptable. Thats down to the players and coaching team - the fans can back all they want but it matters not one jot if those on the field dont turn up ready and able to perform. This is so true, anything can happen will just have to wait and see what happens. All we know it's the same every season and something needs to change.

I don't think it's so much WHO we are playing against as HOW we play.. As we've seen against the top teams we can compete but equally we've seen we can be awful against lower teams. So really it's all about us, can AB find that magic formula or are we going to be hit and miss right up to the end of the season ?

After conceding 4 in the second half v West Brom AB realised how weak our defence can be! So I think he wants clean sheets and hopes we can get breakaway goals or from set pieces to win the game. I'll be surprised if we can stay up now though.
