Has anyone else noticed and been alarmed by the contract situation at the club? Hardly any players are out of contract in the summer. I think it is only these who are:
Hogg, Nakayama, Diarra
Loans ending - Burgzorg, Edwards and Matos
Regardless of which division we end up in that is going to make it almost impossible to have the significant rebuild this squad needs. If we go down then we might get decent offers for Nichols, Helik and Rudoni but can't see many others being sought after.
The strikers who will be on our books next season and many on decent money just leaves you shaking your head:
Ward Rhodes Healey Radulovic Harratt Simpson Hudlin
The following summer most of the squad is out of contract so it may be another 12 months before we can really set about starting over.

I've said this to those around me at the games, I honestly don't care if we get rid of every single one of these players.
Sell what we can
Get rid of the rest
Terminate all loans
Full rebuild is needed and a root and branch restart is the only way I see hope.

The squad will probably do okay in mid table league 1 which is where we are heading for the next 10 years

Really think the core of this squad needs moving on if possible as it feels completely toxic at the mo.
Thomas, Nicholls, Lees, Hogg, Pearson, Ward look like they’ve never got over the play-off final.
Helik, Rudoni,, Kasumu have never experienced anything but losing, toxic seasons at Town.
Jones, Jackson, Headley, Diarra might be able to do something in a club that was winning but can’t perform here.
Koroma needs Warnock to make him look like a footballer.
Turton and Ruffels have to be question marks on their futures with these injuries. Nakayama made of glass.
Summer signings = no comment needed.
January signings not done much apart from Healey, and don’t look like they ever will.
Second half yesterday has to come close as the worst performance I’ve ever seen in terms of attitude, ineptitude and a complete lack of cohesion.
We are so disjointed. We rarely score goals like the ones Preston did. No style, no way of playing, no fluidity.
If there was any realistic way of ripping it up and starting again I would do it in a flash. Not that I trust anyone currently running the club to organise a rebuild very well.
It’s all a bit sad really.

We'll be alright next season as we've got Kyle Hudlin and Tyreece Simpson to come back.

Honestly I just hope somebody is daft enough to pay money for Sorba Thomas, there appears to be a myth that he’s good at football. The only thing he’s good at is set pieces and having watched Norwich at the weekend he’s not even the best in the league at that.

I’m not sure this “great reset” will happen. It’s what we all wanted post premier league relegation, but all we did was ship one bunch of dross for some cheaper dross as the income was reduced.

I remember being told that all the Premier League wasters would be gone when we went down. Fast forward to the first game of the following season and a bunch of them were still in the team!! It was soul destroying seeing the likes of Haderjgonaj, Diakhaby, Pritchard, Kongolo and Bacuna in the line-up for that first game against Derby.

There is certainly a lot of work to do in the summer, regardless of which division we are in.
If relegated then you'd assume Helik, Thomas, Rudoni and possibly Spencer would be sold. Not sure many Championship clubs would be interested in Nicholls, he'll be 32 in October and for me his form is declining.
A lot of the current squad have shown they are not championship quality. So you'd be hopeful that quite a number will be moved on and new players brought in.
On Harratt, I don;t think he'll be let go. Even though he's been an idiot a few times, the club still do have a duty of care whilst he's under contract. So I would imagine he's likely with us until his contract expires, unless he asks to be released.

Rather than generating income, moving on a large part of our squad will probably cost us in pay-offs and subsidised wages elsewhere.

Helik, Rudoni, Thomas, Spencer will probably all go for less than they're worth and we'll be left with the dross, Nicholls may get a move but tbh at the moment he looks a bit of a one season wonder. Pearson and Lees are decent champ quality centre backs and could easily be sought after. Koroma perhaps if someone thinks they can squeeze the best out of him. There are teams coming up from L1 who would be happy to take any of the above IMO. Helik, Rudoni, Thomas and Spencer could get moves to top end clubs IMO, maybe lower prem, they wont cost much if we're relegated.

If you could write the script then I think it would be great to see us splash a bit of cash and have a dominant season in League One. Win lots of games, score lots of goals and actually enjoy it. Would be brilliant for the whole club and shake off this horrible losing mentality.
Not gonna work like that though, is it? No idea if Breitenreiter will stay, not entirely sure if I'm that fussed if he does to be honest (hmm, I probably want him to stay). I think League One will be a slow burner for a year or two as we try and build something towards that dream scenario though. Hitting the reset button is a nice idea, but it's a lot to ask of Nagle and the management to get everything right and make us highly competitive when we'd need to change the entire philosophy and so much playing staff.
Just a shame that we didn't keep Warnock, get points on the board and then bring in Breitenreiter. I guess that's another 'writing the script' moment though.

Which means we'll probably get a million for him with a sell on clause and his next club will reap the majority of the benefits. The other 3 I can't see it.

Rather than generating income, moving on a large part of our squad will probably cost us in pay-offs and subsidised wages elsewhere. Not really. A number have only have 1 or 2 years left on their contracts. A good agent should be able to get them a 3 year contract, potentially with a 1 year option, at other clubs. Granted some with a year left may sit on it and leave on a free. But for players of a certain age or calibre, that's risky. We moved on players over the summer with 1 or 2+ years left on their contracts - Camara, Holmes, Boyle, Bilo etc. - I'm sure we can and will do the same this summer

The saddest thing is that I would be happy to get rid of almost every single player in this squad. Personally, I have completely lost passion for town last few weeks and that’s down to the players, it’s just apathy. They’ve got a free ride for last few years, always having the managers take the blame, but it’s clear that the players are the major problem

Never mind Luton Town awaaaay, it's Northampton Town awaaay for us.

Who are the next Rhodes, Novak, Pilkington, Roberts and Clarke and do we trust the current DOF and his team to be able to spot them and sign them? They’re the sort of players we need to get in and hope the VERY FEW decent players we’d want to retain are prepared to stay with the club (Helik, Spencer, Nicholls, Rudoni, probably Balker, Radulovic and Healey).
I’ve not seen any L1 games this season so can’t comment, but I’ve seen plenty L2 and very few players have impressed me. Can’t think of anyone I’d recommend based on what I’ve seen. Apparently Orsi and Lolos at Crawley are looking like talents and Olaofe at Stockport as well.

With all the financial implications of possible relegation to factor in to next year’s budget, I wonder if there is anything written into the players contracts that states they will have to take a pay cut?

Think Hoyle used to have it written into contracts that wages went down in L1. Believe he used that to motivate them. Who knows if the current regime carried that on.

It's standard in most players contracts that any relegation sees a 10% minimum wage reduction. Most the team haven't had any new deals under the new regime either.
