Well that's my ideal midfielder unavailable! Cameron Brannagan just the type of player we need to build a midfield around. I did note that Ethan Erhohan would go for a 'club record' fee from Lincoln. Worth a bid of a million, surely, for such a player? Branangan is out of contract i think, if so it depends on who offers most. Loads of players drop division for money / bigger club offer. Oxford United website says Brannagan agreed a new 3 year deal in 2022 so I don't think he's out of contract. Would be an absolute belter to have in our midfield, but after Oxfords promotion, it's not gonna happen.

Yes we do but someone of the ball playing ability of a brangan or a sheehan would be very useful for us. A good fee and wage could tempt anyone.

I reckon Jordan Williams, Herbie Kane and Devante Cole will be the first three in through the door when the window opens.

I reckon Jordan Williams, Herbie Kane and Devante Cole will be the first three in through the door when the window opens. I'd take Kane and Cole to be honest. Herbie Kane has proven to be fantastic in League One. Devante Cole got 18 goals last season. God knows we need goals in the side.

If you rate the players mentioned there's still nothing to get excited about. If you think they're shite, it's nowt to get upset about. Incidentally, is there anyone you would recommend that's realistic for a League 1 club with aspirations of promotion?

What positions do the club realistically need to prioritise most? - Creative Midfielder/playmaker who can set up and score goals. - Winger to Replace Sorba - Wingback - Thinking Toffolo/Tommy Smith. Both of these were key in our more recent successful seasons. - Mobile defender to replace Helik and play alongside Pearson/Lees. Spencer would be great in a three, but may well be off. The rest depends on who leaves. If Healey leaves I'd say we need to spend big on a goalscorer. I think this is about right. Not sure we'll be playing wingers - so Sorba's replacement will probably be a wing back. Crewe's Rio Adebisi looks like a left wing back I'd be interested in - athletic, can defend and appears to want to get forward. For the three we have Helik, Balker, Spencer, Lees, Pearson, Turton, Ruffels and Ayina. I'm not sure we'll be buying unless all the first three leave, (which they might) in which case we'll have money to invest. If any of them stay the others in the three need to complement them - e.g. Pearson might complement Spencer more than the others, due to his power in the air. Totally agree on Healey - unless there's a release clause in his contract, he'd stay if I were in charge. I'd build the team to supply him (although he might feel like a hostage if we let everyone else go).

Hull have released Greg Docherty and Cyrus Christie.
Christie is 31 but managed a decent amount of appearances in the first half of this season before getting injured and never really making a further impression on the first team. It’s one for consideration, but not sure if I would recruit him in the end.
Doherty made fewer appearances, but at 27 and in his prime - and with experience of League 1 promotion - he would be a solid signing in my opinion.

Barnsley fans don’t seem that bothered to be losing them, more comments, from what I’ve seen, regarding Williams. Hard to say though as so much depends on the manager. The right manager can get performances from players you wouldn’t think were in them, Warnock being an example.

Liam Kelly from Crawley wouldn’t mind him (if they don’t go up) looked decent for reading during our promotion season, 5 goals and 12 assists this season

We sniffed at him a few years back and he was on an absolute fortune and I can’t see that having changed. But he may not need the money , therefore a 2 year with an option may well appeal to him. Plus he may not have to move, which could appeal to him. Having being with saints, burnley and WBA in the prem, money may now not be the major factor in his next move.

Presumably knows Duff from Burnley. Player coach? Could be a good shout. From the presser, it didn't sound like we'd be signing many 30+ players, Duff wants a team to build with, and not have to keep recruiting was the feeling I got. He probably feels he has some solid pro's in Hogg, Lees & Pearson.

I remember listening to an interview with Duff talking about his early days managing Cheltenham.
He cited the signing of 36 year old Luke Varney as being pivotal to what he was able to achieve there in terms of raising general standards of professionalism across the whole squad.
