I don't get the continued clamour for Johnson Clarke-Harris. Looked like he might be decent in his early 20s but there's a reason that Peterborough were trying to offload him. He's not good enough for where they want to be.

What we need to be doing is signing championship quality players if we are serious about getting back there. Last few years we have been signing league one standard players and we have finally got our comeuppance

Totally depends on who is sold/leaves as to who is needed to replace them, for instance, if we keep Healey, Ward & Radulovic, we don't need any other strikers.

It's our midfield that I'm most concerned about honestly. Matos will be gone, as will be Diarra. Rudoni will likely get a move. Who knows about Hogg. Leaves us really with a central pairing of Kasumu and Wiles.

Jack Currie (AFC Wimbledon)
Rio Adebisi (Crewe)
Both are left-backs;
Adebisi's contract runs out end of the season.
I think Currie has another year left, probably cost around £200k-£350k.

I’d like us to sign the best young up and coming players from league one like we did with Roberts, Pilks, Rhodes etc. players that have a drive to play at a higher level and ability that will take them (and us) there.

Have to sign a cm that a pass a ball and try dictate a game that’s the number one thing that needs to happen, after that players that are probably abit too good for league 1 that we can kept and maybe then look at some of the best young talent we can get that want have a look at players like conn-Clarke at altrincham. We should if Nagle keeps his word have more financial muscle than most down there so use it.

Karim Poku at Peterborough looks a good player, attacking midfielder/winger who has scored quite a few this season, though Posh would probably out-price Town anyway and could even be in the Championship themselves next season.
Isaac Olaofe at Stockport County. Seen him play plenty times for Sutton United and he’s a good finisher, strong and pacy and he’s stepped up since moving to Stockport.
Tolaj at Aldershot has also impressed me.
Langstaff at Notts County has an incredible scoring record. Limited player from what I’ve seen but just scores goals.

People are obsessed by Jonson Clarke Harris on here; you’re about 3 years out of touch. He’s not even a regular for Posh anymore and his legs have completely gone. He was on the verge of joining Bristol rovers last summer but it collapsed. We need better than him.

Leaves us really with a central pairing of Kasumu and Wiles. Both absolutely awful !!! Wiles is embarrassingly unfit, Kasumu will run all day but his passing, shooting and heading ability is League 2 standard. A midfield with those two in it will get steamrollered in League 1.

God this thread has depressed me more than the actual relegation.
I’d like to think (maybe naively) we will try to build a squad better than this years as a minimum

Why would they come to us at the moment? They probably would be better staying where they are, rather than coming to us! We would have to make a statement signing to make us look like we were aiming to get promotion to make us appear that we were a club worth joining.

Joe Taylor - (on loan at Lincoln from Luton) Mads Anderson - (loan) been injured pretty much the whole season so could possibly need a season to get him back up to scratch. Suits our agenda of signing injured players Jo Hungbo - don’t think he’s been getting much of a look in over in Germany. Would tear up league 1 Chris Conn-Clarke - Looked to have had a good season with Alty. Never heard of him. Had a look. Based only on the YouTube footage (I know!), that looks a very good call!

Totally depends on who is sold/leaves as to who is needed to replace them, for instance, if we keep Healey, Ward & Radulovic, we don't need any other strikers. Healey and Ward both have fitness issues. Radulovic is an unknown quantity, might be great after a few months in the gym and a bit of time sharpening his elbows but equally might get bullied next season as much as he has this season. Hudlin has a year's option but I suggest we don't take it up. He was worth a punt but hasn't pulled up trees at Burton, might be better for him to ply his trade in Lg2 and I'll wish him well. Tyreece Simpson looks unlikely to live up to our hopes when we first signed him, but still has another two years on his contract. Maybe a season under a new coach unleashes that potential? Kian Harratt is another unknown quantity. Might be great. Might be shite. I wouldn't want to BET either way. (see what I did there?)We could potentially be spoilt for choice up front if all of those come off, but there's also reason to doubt every single one of them. There are higher priorities in the squad <cough> midfield <cough> but I wouldn't necessarily be puffing my chest out with confidence in Lg1 even if we dont lose a single striker.

I'm assuming those saying Jodi Jones haven't actually watched him play?
He's extremely one dimensional and we've got serious problems if that's the level of player we sign

I'm assuming those saying Jodi Jones haven't actually watched him play? He's extremely one dimensional and we've got serious problems if that's the level of player we sign If he's the only player we sign, absolutely. But as one option, he's worth looking at. He may be extremely one-dimensional, but 20-odd assists in a side that's finished mid-table (albeit a level below) is worth bearing in mind. Big concern would be his injury record; 3 ACL injuries at 26. But good age, worth a punt for a reasonable price. I did think he was out of contract, which also made me think more of him as an option. If we were looking at Notts, Dan Crowley might be an option. 16 goals and 11 assists, one year left on his contract. Very much a player who could play higher and who was an ambitious non-league signing for them. Is he top end League One? I'm not sure. Previous experience there with Morecambe and Hull, for whom he played during their promotion season largely as a substitute. Notts' problems lay defensively, not going forward. 89 goals for in a side that finished 14th is utterly insane. Especially when you consider they also conceded 86.

We need an experienced ball playing midfielder. He might be 33 but Lewis Holtby is a proper baller. He can pass a ball, he's still scores goals and he's a leader.
