If Hogg doesn't re-sign who realistically will he move to. He moved to us from Watford to be nearer Middlesbrough so I'd doubt if he would moved south. I'd be very surprised if teams higher up the leagues were interested apart from maybe Sunderland or Boro as a squad player as there will be no transfer fee to pay. Hartlepool would be a non starter along with probably Bradford (and Harrogate) But money talks, (but it don't sing and dance and it can't walk)😉

What the hell has happened to Josh Ruffels? I totally forgot he still played for us (or doesn't). Did okay last season so would expect him to be decent in league 1. How bad is his injury?

Cheers for that - nice to have it updated in one place. If we can add as many in as now go out (or more) I’d imagine that’s a decent size squad with not awful quality and depth for L1.

From the present retained list it is not at all surprising that Town are incredibly weak in their midfield and striker options.Very few are good enough for League One, surely these two areas that have been weak for the last few seasons, must be priorities for next season if Town are to challenge next season

BIG recruitment drive needed.
Goalkeepers
Lee Nicholls Chris Maxwell Jacob Chapman.
Can afford to lose one of these. Whether it's likely to be Nicholls that gets a championship move, or lesser likely Maxwell moving for first team football or Chapman out on loan. ONE can leave and we still wouldn't need strengthening
Full backs/Wing backs
Jaheim Headley Ben Jackson Josh Ruffels Brodie Spencer Ollie Turton.
For me this is quite concerning. Ruffels and Turton can be great in League One, but both will be coming off very shortened seasons. Headley may well yet go, and is rumoured to be one of the bad eggs. I don't really rate Jackson too highly. If we can keep a hold of Spencer, and he continues to develop then we had a right player there.
Centre backs
Loick Ayina Radinio Balker Michal Helik Tom Lees Matty Pearson
On paper, probably our strongest position. I can't really rate Balker too much as he's been injured so much but from the limited amount that we've seen, he's a right player. Helik may get a well deserved move to the championship. Then we have the experienced duo of Pearson and Lees, with Ayina around the squad as well. No investment needed
Midfielders
Josh Austerfield Scott High Jonathan Hogg* Tom Iorpenda David Kasumu Jack Rudoni Ben Wiles
Severely lacking a creative playmaker, and also severly lacking in G/A. I don't rate Austerfield nor High. Iorpenda looked promising but that's being based on an extremely small sample size. Questions if Rudoni will be here next season. Kasumu may go well in League One, let's hope we can keep him injury free. Wiles, well I just hope we can get him fit! Another who could go well in League One but needs to do much better than this season
Wingers
Pat Jones Josh Koroma Sorba Thomas.
YIKES. Just YIKES. Jones hasn't really kicked on and needs to managed carefully. Has shown promise in the past, but can we rely on him for a full season? Koroma, all depends if Duff can get a tune out of him. If we get the JK that performs like he does under NW then brilliant. If he performs like he has with anyone else, then we start games with 10 men. Sorba will leave, I have no doubt it.
Strikers
Kian Harratt Rhys Healey Kyle Hudlin Kieran Phillips Bojan Radulovic Tyreece Simpson Danny Ward
Really conflicted about strikers. We have numbers there BUT are they the right ones? Harratt seems to have his issues and doesn't have a profilic profile either. Healey is the one that most of us are excited about, let's hope we can keep him fit. Bojan is much of an unknown quantity, is he physical enough? How is his injury record? He scored a decent goal last season but didn't get a proper run of games and couldn't make it off the bench! Hudlin and Simpson neither are really League One standard. Look at their loan stats. Phillips, at 25, still unproven in the EFL, may actually be better suited to stay at Sacremento. Then there's Danny Ward who can do a job for us, but I'd rather see him not as a starter, more as a sporadic player.

So, to date 3 in (plus one more today or tomorrow hopefully, in Anthony Evans).
Ideally still need, at least, a striker.
Other than Rudoni, no one has been sold. We need to ship some players out. Who would you be happy (or at least accept) if we moved on?
Here's mine, with rationale.
Goalkeepers - Lee Nicholls - had a stellar season when we reached Wembley. Been largely average since. Happy if he stays but happy if he goes.
Full backs/Wing backs - Jaheim Headley/Ben Jackson/Josh Ruffels - would try to find a new home for at least one, no more than 2, of these. At a push, if fit, I'd keep Ruffels, and definitely move on Jackson.
Centre backs - one of Tom Lees or Matty Pearson - no need for both (unless we lose Helik or Balker)
Midfielders - probably move on both Josh Austerfield and Scott High - not sure either are going to come good
Wingers - either or both of Josh Koroma & Sorba Thomas - nothing against either of them, but they won't fit in the system, realistically. I think Jones could be useful though, perhaps with a tweak of his role.
Strikers as many of the below as we can get off the bill. Of these 5 perhaps Simpson and Harratt could do a job off the bench, but if we start the season with a choice of Healey, Bojan, one of the youngsters below and a new signing vying for two spots, I'd be happy.
Kian Harratt Kyle Hudlin Kieran Phillips Tyreece Simpson Danny Ward
I reckon we could get 10 of these off the wage bill and still have a strong enough squad to make a good fist of a promotion challenge. Main challenge is, who'd want them?

Can certainly see it with Hudlin, Jackson, High and perhaps even Ward. If we can't sell we can at least have their contracts subsidised until they do leave. I dont really get the hate for Jackson though, had some promising moments before breaking into the first team and has shone in the odd game. Came clean about his mental struggles and perhaps Duff is the type of manager to get the best out of him. Definitely a player in there.

You're right, hate is a very strong word and I wouldn't say anyone 'hates' him at all. It's just a generic term for negativity towards him.
