Just being a good defender doesn't mean you're a good leader. Helik to me seems fairly quiet. Other side note, maybe him and Nicholls have been told to focus more on their game. A lot of defensive errors by Nicholls and Helik last season. Helik fortunately contributed more at the other end. Exactly. Not everything is a conspiracy.

I like what they have done with the leadership group. They've not just gone with the 6 oldest and most experienced, but shared it out with 2 in their 30's, 2 in their Mid-20's and 2 in their early 20's.

Feels like a great way of getting the group together and picking up thoughts from all ages. Maybe Headley is there for being a very good young pro? Just like Spencer?

Having a leadership group made up of Nicholls, Lees etc. will not relate much to the younger players. Seems Duff has chosen a designated ‘leader’ from each social group, probably the one with the best attitude. Great to see a couple of the younger lads on there, we’ve dealt with bad eggs in our team for too long so it’s good to see improvements are being made.

To look back and see how many players we have let go over the previous summer windows how have we ended up with so many players and so little quality. Quite simply years of under investment in the playing squad. Exactly this Wasn’t just quality it was how we ended up with a squad with so many over 30s/u23 and so few at their peak - which they’ve tried to start addressing No easy fix.

Not like we need a CB!! looks like Yuta recovered from his injury. Reports from Japan last week that his new annual salary is around 300 mJPY (Roughly £30k a week) making him one of the highest paid players in the history of the J-League. Good luck to him. We need to focus our efforts on identifying a loan signing who is more Colwill than Mbete...

I can only assume that he's improved enormously if he's good enough for Lg1 relegation fodder.

A week into the season and I think some of the outstanding questions have become clearer. Personally I'm less concerned about defensive midfield and feel more positive about our ability to score goals than I was. And I think our overall squad quality is higher relative to league one standards.
Ideally (not necessarily realistically), I think by the end of the window we want a starting striker and a starting left centre back plus a natural wing back to deputise for Sorenson.
And I would be looking to offload Ruffles, High, Hudlin, Harratt, Jones and one or both of Radulovic/Ward.

Hudlin & Harratt out. Making room.

Would respectfully suggest Ruffels, Turton & Spencer are moved to central defenders under Duff's system and Koroma to a striker.

It’s a long season. I think/hope we’ve got something left in the kitty to make a potentially crucial January addition up front. In the meantime, JK and Marshall need to be the new Young Guns and take it to league one this year.
