Just been on a burnley forum and see they think we have offered him a contract.
Also seen in the League one signings thread that people have heard we may be in for him.
10 goals in the championship the season before last, so would surely do a job in league one?
34 years old but i think we are in need of some experience.
However surely his wages will be ridiculously high?

Would definitely take Jay Rodriguez. Whilst I think he would do a job on the pitch in League One, he would be a shining example to our players of what it takes to be a Premier League player. The standards he would bring would be a different league.

Played with Duff for years at Burnley.
Wouldn’t have to move.

Please no. He's 35 (nearly), knackered and injury-prone. He might be a good example for the younger members of the squad, but surely we need to avoid signing over the hill strikers.

By Alan Nixon
Stoke City and Huddersfield Town are battling for Burnley veteran striker Jay Rodriguez.
The experienced hit man is set to leave the Clarets after his second spell at Turf Moor.
Terriers new boss Michael Duff is keen on his former team mate and also has the same agent.
However Stoke are keen and also have Championship football to offer.

Think you’re down playing how much of a handful he could be in league one. 20 appearances in the prem last year and their fans are torn about letting him go which speaks volumes.

And Chris Martin (aged 35) and Jordan Rhodes (aged 34) scored 16 and 15 goals, respectively, in League One last season. Age not worth worrying about.

Anyone who wouldn't take him in League One is bonkers. He'd be a step up in quality even if we hadn't been relegated.
35, so what? Let's turn down Thiago Silva and James Milner whilst we're at it shall we?

Would be okay with this, clearly still has something to offer with 21 appearances in prem last year and a model pro, something our younger ones who seem to have become led down the wrong path could do with

So about 4/5 years ago when he was at WBA I was chatting some lass I’d met online. She was mates with his wife and when she was pissed on a night out with his Mrs they went back to their house and she put me on FaceTime randomly to him (Jay Rod). Anyway neither of us knew what to say and it was the most awkward 30 seconds of all time but he didn’t tell me to fuck off so I guess what I’m saying is…..sign him up based on that.

For anyone saying he’s too old I’m sure he will do a good job in league one if he can keep injury free. Jordan Rhodes and Chris Martin were both in the top scorers list for league one last year and are the same age, mcgoldrick the year before. Rodriguez is better than all these quality wise, done it in the prem for years while none of these ever cut it above championship level. Genuinely think it’s a clever signing

He'd be better than any we have currently. Teams need 4 strikers at most nowadays. Rodriguez, Healey, Bojan, and Ward would have enough. Shift Harratt, Simpson, Hudlin, and Phillips.

I was about to say he'd be a clear upgrade on Simpson, Hudlin, Harratt and Phillips. I wouldn't be too surprised if Phillips signed for Sacramento permanently. I believe he's already scored a couple of goals there. Would be a good signal of intent if he's the quality of player we are after

I'm more than sure Duff and the recruitment team know we need midfielders. He's better than what we currently have, so this can only be a good thing

I'd rather shift Ward and keep one of the younger lads (Except Hudlin). Ideally another cf, who has less question marks regarding ability or fitness than Healey, Radulovic and Rodriguez would have, comes in to compete.

Over 20 appearances in each of the last 7 seasons suggests otherwise!. Especially compared to a certain Mr Ward!

Not sure I get the injury prone comments either.Without knowing his injury record if you just look at the games/minutes he’s played it tells another story. Other than the season just gone you have to go back to 16/17 for the last time he played under a 1000 minutes. Most of the seasons after it’s well over that and if you include that season and the next 8 up to now he’s spent 6 of those in the premier league where competition for places would be high. I don’t know if he struggled with injury last season only getting 3/4 starts and 20 appearances or if that was simply at his age in the premier league he was utilised differently?maybe someone knows more? If it’s for the correct wages and he’s up for league 1 mentally I wouldn’t mind it,don’t know that I’d expect him to start every week but would be quality wise a very good signing for the level.Would imagine like a few have said for driving standards which we are certainly looking for you would imagine that’s what he’s all about.Been at Burnley a while now and duff himself said the standards there were very good because they had to be to compete, add to that he’s still playing at 34 going 35 at that level and he must be a good pro. I see stoke are also interested which maybe also tells you we shouldn’t be turning our noses up at it.
That said I could be overestimating what constitutes a decent amount of minutes per season.

We need to sign young strikers like Simpson and Hudlin to get out of this league. Experience and know how will mean nothing in this league will it?

i know he used to be a fantastic player. i’ve no idea if he still is. Playing in the Premier League very recently suggests he is but Burnley obviously don’t think he’s good for top of the Championship l. If i were him id be looking for a 2 year deal.

Think was said Burnley have offered a new deal.you would think if he doesn’t want it that it’s probably only a year.Stoke interested too but again champ club and his age might mean 1 year deal.I’d guess been a league 1 club now we’d probably offer him 2 years. The stoke year would think be more money then the two with us so could come down to a mix of location and motivation(money or minutes)

Agree seems to be the big thing against him. That’s all I’d be weary of signing him on. However, as pointed out by a few Rhodes was doing it when just as old.
So maybe a 1 year contract with an option or clause from his side saying gets auto renewal it hits X amount of appearances. At least then he can prove despite age he can still do it
