Duff was Burnley Youth Manager in 2018 and Conn Clarke joined Burnley Youth in 2018 but not sure they crossed paths or Duff left as he joined

Always risky signing players from the Conference
Fleetwood obviously didn't think he was up to much but then he goes and gets 30+ goals/assists two levels lower.

Genuinely think this would be a fantastic signing, that kid oozes class. Learnt from the lower leagues. Just go watch a few videos on him - proper technical footballer.
For me this would be such a low risk/high reward signing. Get it done

Wouldn’t say that Fleetwood didn’t think he was up to it. Fleetwood have a very good youth setup - Had two very good loans at Altrincham who went all out to sign him permanently midway through the 22/23 season. Fleetwood rejected the bids and he went out to Ireland on loan . Alty then returned last summer with a club record fee for him. Was a combination of the player wanting the move and Fleetwood receiving a bid for him that was too good to turn down.

Fleetwood didn't think he was up to it.
Millwall didn't think Chris Smalling was up to it.
Massive Wednesday didn't think Jamie Vardy was up to it.
Both Brentford and QPR thought Michail Antonio wasn't up to it (and Brentford were shit in those days).
Sometimes players develop a bit later. Or they need a setback to kickstart their careers. Some just don't suit the club they're at. If we sign this lad I'd be excited to see what he could do.

I thought the story with Vardy was that people were worried about his carachter because he’d already been in trouble in sheffield and had to wear a tag etc… we weren’t the only ones who didn’t want the risk.

Spoke to a few of my mates who support national league sides and they’ve all said that he’s head and shoulders above the rest in that league

Just like the striker that was not worth £1M when we back in the third level and Southampton signed him got promoted and he played for England and signed for Liverpool.

We signed Jordan Rhodes instead for £250K so didn't do so bad

I would add though, that my excitement if we signed Chris Conn-Clarke would be tempered somewhat. He does look good on YouTube, but so does that chap at Cheltenham who has just signed for Shrewsbury, who we were rumoured to be interested in. And his stats are crap.
CCC's stats are better, but they're at National League level. And although he's probably still good enough to get into our current midfield, that doesn't necessarily mean he's any good.

Don't think it's a bad shout for this lad.
If rumours are true quite a few EFL clubs are interested, the Northern Ireland connections might work in our favour and if we can keep Brodie at the club he'll have regular Northern Ireland scouts watching his games.

He’d be a gamble, as would every player coming from that level. But one I think I’d take, with some more proven talent to reduce pressure on him. He certainly looks like he has something and has toughened up early in his career. Good age for improvement with that bit of experience behind him.

West Ham didn't fancy Sorba Thomas. And rightly so. Somehow i don't think West Ham are regretting, there choice of letting Sorba go. The youth staff at West Ham got that choice very much right. Sorba will never ever be a prem player, well not for more than a season. If he managers to join a club, who will carry him to a promotion, then have a season in the prem. His overall play is very poor.

Is this guy another Kyle Hudlin? Based on what I’ve seen, no. Conference fans were staggered that we’d signed Hudlin, who had a reputation for not being particularly good at that level. His goals record was 14 goals in 59 games. To be fair to him, there will be many 21-year-olds at that level with a worse record who go on to do OK in their careers. Conn-Clarke has a better record in terms of goals and assists is already streets ahead despite playing a deeper role. He seems to be universally-acclaimed as one of the outstanding non-league talents in recent years. Any player from two/three levels below is a gamble. The story of Hudlin - being picked up by a club playing far too high for ability - is pretty standard. The problem was that we did poorly in other areas of recruitment meaning we had to play him. If we were to bring in Conn-Clarke we’d need proven talent alongside him. Non-league recruitment can be fertile ground. We picked up Lee Novak from non-league alongside Sorba Thomas, two players who we’ve had our money’s worth from. Both were gambles that paid off among other, more experienced players.
