I despise this competition. Forced to play the same teams we play every week/every year in a two-league tournament when we already compete in 46 league games plus two other cups which we enter in the early rounds. There is just no need for it. It should be scrapped (along with the UEFA Conference League). Lincoln Red Imps or Larne will be guaranteed around £850k reaching the league stage of the UEFA Conference.......The NIFA even postponed Larne's league game for them, its huge amount of money to those teams, Chelsea on the other hand probably agree with you.

And take that stick out from up your arse. Always argumentative with your posts and snide. A bit fake and pathetic slating a competition and refusing to attend but then saying you'll go to a semis or final. Stinks of only going when it's success. I'm not saying you're that JJLocker, but if I would feel so hypocritical if I slated a certain tournament and then jumped around like made at a semi or a final when you win.

I see this in much the same way as I see the other cups. As a chance to get minutes into the legs of fringe players

Only the same as the League cup - an actual, proper competition and only 5K turned up for round 1 (which was pretty good really). We’d sell out for a semi final. My problem is the u21 teams - they are invariably out of the competition by the knock out stages so then it changes. We owe quite a debt to the earlier iteration of this competition, which only caught the imagination from Stockport on, with the kick start it gave Warnock.

I'm sure I'm in a minority. But we should go all out to win this. End of the day, doesn't matter which it is, but a trophy is a trophy. And I'm sure all players want to win. I’m very much with you rockwall... It’s a competition that we’ve never won as far as I know - And when I see some of the names that actually have then the name of HTAFC ought to be carved on it for sure... C’mon Town - This is your year - Make it so !!! 🏆 🥃

I may be the only one saying it but I’m in a majority. Hypothetically let’s say 1000 go to the group game, over 20000 would go to Wembley. So I’m one of the 95%.

Can guarantee there'll be massive interest if we get to the final. You mean like last time we got to final? Hardly anyone at the earlier rounds that year but get to the regional final and interest exploded There was a BIG difference back then...you had to have been 70 or 80 or whatever years old to have had the experience of watching Town at Wembley prior. Since then, we've had four old and new Wembley finals (plus those at the Millennium Stadium and Old Trafford) - in games that meant something, with real jeopardy, I reckon there'd be a huge drop-off in seats sold for an inconsequential FL Trophy final, especially with the potential of a play-off final appearance just a few weeks later.

There's 30,000+ at play off finals, for plenty it will have been the only game they attended all season, and obviously not everyone at the final even "bothered" to go to the semi final, never mind all the league games before! Finals would be a lot drearier if it was only people who had been to the tedious opening rounds. There were just 5,000ish at the League Cup 1st round match last week...is it hypocritical if we get past Walsall and host a big team in the 3rd round and suddenly 15,000 turn up?!

If you fancy Town to rectify this then stick a quid or two on at around 22k/1......Take out EFL cup for a more realistic 100/1 double.

A lot of truth in this post. While not acting Billy big bollocks we have achieved quite a bit since that 90s final v Swansea and people's priorities change. I probably wouldn't go if we got to the final tbh though I was there for the final under Warnock.

The principle of the trophy has been diluted with adding Premier League "junior" teams.
I don't think it will be anywhere near a priority for us and will be an opportunity to play kids with potential. If they do well great, if not they will hopefully have learned something from the experience.
Personally I hope we take the FA Cup reasonably seriously and try and get to the 3rd round (or further).

Could we update the thread’s title to the Bristol Street Motors Trophy unless there is some deep nostalgia for Papa Johns Trophy that I’ve missed? Not deep nostalgia as such, more deep pan. Will need a slice of luck to win the group, will we be topping it?

It's a good chance to make sure players aren't cheesed off at lack of game time, though. Keep a good base happy, top it off with a bit of experience for younger players.

Think the EFL had the Under 21 teams forced kn then in exchange for some brass, I might be wrong on that mind, but seemed to remember they had to kow tow to get some PL brass.

Think the EFL had the Under 21 teams forced kn then in exchange for some brass, I might be wrong on that mind, but seemed to remember they had to kow tow to get some PL brass. The PL is a fecking poison on the game. It’s clearly a spectacle, but it just feels as though the elite leagues have become too powerful in recent years. I had a go at one of the football quizzes on the BBC earlier. There was one about highest transfer fee between 2 players. The fees they now pay for non marquee signings is utterly bonkers. And nobody bats an eyelid any more. Fairly big standard signings that would cover the transfer budget of some clubs for the next 20 seasons…

Barnsley play United u21 tonight in our group, wonder why we aren’t on tonight? I think clubs get the draw and are then told to make arrangements themselves. So long as games are played by a certain point, clubs have discretion over when games take place. So we play Doncaster away on 3rd September (convenient, as we've just had a short away trip then play at home), Barnsley at home on 8th October (three days after we play Barnsley at home. No, I'm not repeating myself), and Man Utd U21 at home on 12th November, between away trips to Crawley and Wycombe - a little more inconvenient, but if we're making big changes it's no real issue.

Barnsley play United u21 tonight in our group, wonder why we aren’t on tonight? Some of the under 21 teams will have players on international duty so I suspect why games involving them are not played during the break.......Barnsley are 1/2 to win tonight.

My only memories of it as a spectator are the Wembley final and some game away at Saltergate getting piss wet through in the open end. We looked out of it, clawed our way back to level with very late goals only to lose on pens if I'm remembering the right game. Might have been one or two on here that went?

I was at the Chesterfield game and sat down that night due to the weather and due to the fact you could pay in, rather than it be ticketed. I would usually stand but it was absolutely smashing it down. We were 3-1 down until injury time when Pilks put in a free direct then Nathan Clarke scored in a goal mouth scramble seconds later, we then promptly lost the penalty shoot out after all that effort.

One hundred and forty nine different grounds watching town so feel qualified to have a valid opinion even if people disagree, woud i go if they got to wembley...course i bloody would.

If it was just a straight, one game, knockout competition, starting at round 1, all games decided by pens if drawn at 90 minutes, no under 21’s, north and south all the way to the final (which it is), it would be much better.

Glad I'm not quite totally ga-ga yet. All my clothes went straight in the washing machine when I got home, soaked. I think quite a few were understandably on their way out when we pulled one back to get to 3-2.

Just been watching spurs 21s bs Bristol rovers
Young lad for spurs mikey Moore, looks a brilliant little player, left winger, 17 , absolutely skinning there defenders I know it’s only 1 game I’ve seen, I wonder if anyone might be tempted with a loan move for him,
