I've seen this wait for Birmingham shit on several threads now. It's past it's sell by date, though admittedly funny at first, especially considering that we are fishing in the same pond as Birmingham & it's possibly only us two in that League 1 better player pond, so there will be more to come as we are going to be battling for the same level/quality of player all summer window.

Itās getting a bit tiresome now this Birmingham sketch. I hope this goes through, not because I really want to see Evans in a town shirt, itās just to shut their fans up.
They have become unbearable on Twitter.

They have become unbearable on Twitter. If Birmingham are offering double the wages of anyone else in the division, they won't be losing out on any player they want. The only reason he would come here and not there is because they didn't attempt to sign him Nobody is going to go Huddersfield for Ā£7k a week when they can get Ā£14k at Birmingham. It would be madness

I think if we were to get evans done it would be a real statement to them that not everyone can be bullied everytime. We may put up more of a fight with evans given he will/could have re sale value and also more chance of progression but I donāt believe that tipping into l or close to the realms of 20 grand a week for a league 1 footballer sets a good precedent to be honest and with duff wanting hard working and a team ethic it doesnāt really promote that when you have players in the squad who were more than capable in the champ on less than half that. The way forward maybe to keep an even tighter ship than before and not let anything get out in the media and get deals done quickly. The problem with the first part of that is itās in selling clubs interests now to alert Birmingham to anyone weāre in for in the hope they can extract more money from the deal. As it stands if we were to get the sorba outgoing done and probably try let koroma go the squad looks good enough under a new manager to more than compete.Iād just like a few more faces in to freshen things up a touch more though and force that change of mentality.

We have seen time and time again that throwing money at it does not guarantee success. An inexperienced manager, contracted players envy at new arrivals wages, being everyone else's cup final... Big gamble by Birmingham, lots of pressure. Could be in a pickle if they don't go straight back up.

The Birmingham rumour could just be his agent trying to spook us to better our offer. We are doing ok so far with transfers. This lad would be a great addition but there are no guarantees he will come here. Unfortunately there will probably still be the mad scramble at the end of the window no matter how well we do now, perhaps more with players leaving than joining.

If that's the case then they're not as smart as they think they are. It wouldn't take much in the way of negotiating skills to find out roughly what we were offering then up it by 10 or 20%; 100% more is just madness. Maybe explains why they're English football's biggest under achievers.

Obviously Iām no itk just whispers iv heard and yes I agree with you if itās 100% more it just doesnāt seem to make sense.Obviously info is filtered out from the clubs at either end.If weāve missed out on him it would suit the club to suggest or hint that Birmingham are paying utterly insane money. Itās not a bad way or doing things by Birmingham to be honest as theyāll likely have comfortably the best team/squad and should win the league. That does come with its own expectations/pressures though. An iffy start and it could blow up quickly. Iād still expect them to win it though the way theyāre going.

Reminds me of a skip up the road! Yes it's tedious. But I noticed that some of our own were doing similar stuff but to Charlton fans on twitter when it first looked like May was heading to Huddersfield. Birmingham, Town and anyone else in League One has no right to Lord it over anyone else. We're all in the same division. Always think about some ne'er-do-wells at Man C leaning over the barrier at the Etihad when we got bummed by Man C in the premier league. Chanting 'you're shit' etc, The bloke they were doing a pretty good job of winding up is a well known Doctor at HRI, who had been quite prominent figure in stopping the A+E from closing down and is a big Town fan. Suppose football gives people a chance to attach themselves to a Club and act like they are better than the people who follow another team (for that reason alone). When really it only highlights how empty and worthless their lives are that the only time they experience any sense of achievement is from their football team.

Just a question. If what the B,ham fan who posted the other day is correct, and clubs can exceed the % of turnover if the owner puts in money as long as it is not a loan, why are we signing free agents and others on the cheap? Is Mr.Nagle not prepared to do what their owners are doing ? If so what is stopping him?

As the new rookie manager in the mix and it's far from a forgone conclusion that they'll do well. I actually thought they were favourites before they started splashing the cash as their squad was already too good for L1. Not so sure now.

Birmingham are going boom or bust. we don't want too

Not sure what Birminghamās revenue would be but likely bigger than ours.Plus with the may one his age could have just been a factor in not offering the kinds of wages Birmingham are.It may bite them financiallyā¦it may not.

No idea what Birmingham's spending has been last couple of years, but as and when they get promoted, you'd have to suspect they will be sailing very close to ffp infringement. Lets see......!!!

Birmingham are going boom or bust. we don't want too I liked your post, but it is not exactly answering the question is it! My understanding of the situation is: The rules in L1 are that a chairman can donate the money, so if it had been the fee then we could (if we so wished) pay that without falling foul of legislation. However, once you're promoted you're back on Championship rules - which state that you can only have a certain amount of outgoings Vs your income. In other words, the only ways we could spend a fuck ton on wages on a long term contract and avoid falling foul of FFP are: 1) Massively increase revenue without chairman's donation. (How?) 2) Fail to win promotion so that Championship rules don't apply. or 3) Have a fire sale once we're in the Championship, and probably still have a points deduction (a la Derby County a few years ago).
