Makes sense when you consider our new scout or whatever he is has just joined from Bristol Rovers. He should have a decent idea of what sort of fee it'd take to get him

Also skippered Bristol Rovers towards the back end of the season. Impressive stats as an attacking midfielder. In the league, since 2021 (L2 and L2): 121 games, 21 goals, 21 assists.

Looks like this would be a very solid signing if we can land it

It would look on the face like a good signing to be honest.hopefully not another one that drags on though. Got a feeling the may one if does happen could end up going to end of the window. Let’s hope we can get this one done sharpish

Not likely - he's 25 so by tea time he'll be 39 on here

Just what I wanted to hear today. Fixture release day would be great to have a new signing. 2-3 good characters hungry to play for us replacing 2 who aren’t and don’t can make a massive difference to the squad. Under new management. New division. New players. Fresh start.
Come on Town.

Our new addition to the recuritment team (Adam Mahoney) will know this chap very well, but you would asume will know his contract situation inside out. I asume we will be back in for him. Had a fantastic season last year, but seems to be on a rise as sorts. As over the last few years he has stood out in both Div 1 and 2. The fact he has 1 year to go on his deal, means Rovers either have to tie him down or get a good deal for him, plus what might help us is he seems to be from up this way / Liverpool area, he might like the idea of moving closer to home .

On paper sounds good. Would be good to invest some of the Rudoni money on him
I was looking at Barnsley's squad - given the Duff connection - and there Player of the Season was another CM, Adam Phillips. Wonder if he'll also be a target in due course. Would be some statement to get both running our midfield

Friend of mine is football journalist and Bristol Rovers fan, says:
Probably our best player. Rarely injured, great at free-kicks, good engine and contributes a decent amount of goals and assists. One of those players who you think shld do well in a better team/better level but perhaps not quite there yet. He struggled at L1 after we got promoted but was much better last season. Thought he'd probably end up at Pompey.
Sounds like a gamble, but a good chance he'll be a good addition

Duff took him to Barnsley , therefore you would asume hw ould be on any list of possible of transfers.

A journalist said they were interested and could be a bigger draw for him being closer and now in the Championship. Said our offer had been turned down but they are still trying to keep him. One to watch definitely.

Plus i think although Pompey are a div above now, i think we can still match their wage etc. I would not asume just because another club is showing interst that a bid has gone in or that they are defo getting them over us.

As i say mate, there is a huge difference between a target/ someone you have interest in and making bids and pushing it further. I bet there are hundreds of players we have a "interest " in. The difference is making a move to sign the player , instead of just keeping a eye on/ admiring a player.

I think if we're serious about promotion we make these deals happen. Forget trying to save a hundred k here and there, easy for me to say I know but the club has spent many times that paying off shit managers and the bill for relegation makes these transfer fees look like loose change.
If Duff believes these players are what's needed then make it happen, even if it means we don't get the absolute best deal. Sometimes you just have to make it happen and look at the bigger picture. Plus if these players are as good as we maybe think the fees will be dwarfed anyway by future value.

I really hope we're not saying in August that our primary targets didn't materialise and thus we're going for stop gaps, again...

Tend to agree.if there is championship interest that puts them in the box seat in terms of attracting the player himself, however does anyone think possibly we maybe willing to pay more transfer fee wise than a championship club?my train of thought is that for a champ club he hasn’t played at that level so a slight risk and therefore maybe they wouldn’t want to spend a substantial fee on him especially in his last year of contract.us however if we really want him know he’s good enough for the level and might be worth paying over his worth with promotion in mind. Just a thought dunno if anyone agrees

It isn’t just about us. Rovers would like to keep him, though I believe he has said he wants to move, and he has a choice to make. I think nearer home will be a draw and our facilities match most, if not all, Championship clubs.

Get these deals DONE if the interest is there, like you mentioned it’s not that easy but paying that extra 100-200k certainly helps and in the grand scheme of things is negligible if you get promoted. Saves masses of panic AND increased fees the closer it gets to deadline day anyway… Feel like Town could give other incentives too… good transfer fee + player loans from any fringe players that won’t be getting game time - .i.e. Simpson/High/Hudlin/Austerfield? Etc

The chance to move home, play for a bigger club with better facilities and hopefully a good chance of promotion might swing it? I guess playing at the highest level isn't the absolute be all and end all. Money, security, location and potential will come into it. Plus the coach, hopefully Duff is persuasive and has a good reputation.

Add in the new recruitment lad from Bristol Rovers as well. May help swing it as believe he was a popular figure within the club
