I will be speaking to the former Town player Daral Pugh shortly. Pugh played for the club from 1982 to 1985 and was part of the 1982-83 promotion team. Does anyone have any memories of him, or anything they'd like to ask him?

Just going from my memory, not really a sensible thing to do! He was a small 'ratting' attacking midfield player, who seemed to come on as substitute a lot.

Good to see you back Lee. I was only young when Pugh played but remember him being a good technical player who should possibly have weighed in with more goals than he did. Although back in the 1980s a wideman's role would have been seen more as a provider

I really don't remember much about him at all, apart from my memory, too, seems to think he was sub a lot

Remember him destroying a Newcastle full back up at St James park in 83 in their promotion year A fabulous game which we lost 5-2 , should have been a least a couple ahead at half time. Kevin Stonehouse missed a bag full of chances. Beardsley , Keegan, McDermott and Waddle got their goals. Most defeats are instantly forgotten but that was a great game where we went behind , came back twice only to concede three late on.

My memory is that he was always sub in the days of only 1 sub. My old girl stood with a woman and her daughter in the middle of the old east terrace and I remember the daughter always fancied the pants off him ( she was tidy as well).

Ask him about the games v Doncaster Robers around the time he was with the club. Always exciting, often controversial games, Willis the referee in at least one of the games. Think Pugh ended up going there as well.

Remember the name from my very early days of watching Town but can't remember seeing him play.

Found a photo of Pugh being tossed into the canal after a training session in 1983. The best thing about it is John Haselden (assistant manager) laughing in the background.

The only thing I remember about Daryl Pugh was him scoring, in the snow with an orange ball, in the FA Cup 3rd replay against Wolves in 84/85.

Was a small quick player but not quite as good as Brian Stanton so rarely saw a run of games from memory. Think he came from Donny and was a regular sub for a couple of years. Probably wishes he was playing now with less physicality than in those days - used to get kicked alot!

Great little winger iirc, usually a sub, almost always seemed to affect the game when he came on though and as a very young town fan I always enjoyed watching him play. He was there in a superb era, that promotion winning team from 83 was brilliant to watch had some fantastic players. Will look forward to reading the interview!

I think you’re right with the name, but I always had him down as Daryl Pugh?
Was a decent player from recollection. Not up there with the folklore of Kindon and many before him, but a well liked player from memory.

I remember him as a quick skilful winger. Quite a small lad, so tended to get some tasty treatment from fullbacks - it they could catch him. Always thought he was a bit under played by the management - but then they had a lot of talent in that squad so someone has to miss out. Always lifted the crowd when he came on. I think he was Welsh - you could ask if the national squad ever came knocking on his door - I don't recall them doing so. You could ask him his favourite striker to play alongside was.

I have a memory of a night game at home to Orient (I think) and him scoring two goals in a 6-0 win. I might be wrong like as it was likely 40+ years ago Small winger/midfielder. Often our only sub. Decent enough player though, at a time we had a settled small squad.

I think I was in the Cowshed, a rainy night, and there was a group of us from Battyeford Boys Club there...my dad didn't take me in the Cowshed - always halfway up the East Terrace

Excellent player. Record number of appearances from the bench, I believe.

And it's spelt Daryl not Daral IIRC? Like Mids says he was usually sub in the days you only had one and the same eleven played every week,usually... Cox,Brown,Burke,Stanton,Sutton,Hanvey,Lillis,Doyle,Russell,Wilson,Cowling, sub Pugh...off the top of my head. I couldn't tell you our starting line up from any games last season though without looking it up!

First thing I thought was the spelling. Always thought Daryl but thought okay should know. Anyway according to wiki it’s Daral. Did we used to spell it wrong in programs? I’ll ask my mate to look. He’s got them all from that era

It never seemed to change , same every game with Pugh as the sub.

Why is it that I could pick every player out from a team photo from 40 years ago yet would struggle to name some of our players from just a couple of seasons back? So many seem to come through and play the odd game before disappearing into obscurity becoming instantly forgettable these days.
