A good start to this season but as usual of the time drifted in to mid table mediocrity. Good summer weather wise too 1989.

Actually I was wrong about mid table, just watched thr montage and we finished 8th. Craig Maskell, what a striker.

Craig Maskell was just clinical up front.
Never realised Mark Smith scored such quality goals. In fact, I couldn’t remember any of those shown.

Only Deepdale surviving, barely recognisable with hideous stand & plastic pitch......Did we draw because we never hardly win there?

htafc-heritage.com/collections/3/video-archiveA few more throwbacks here which are a great watch and a good walk down memory lane. When Wagon Wheels were Wagon Wheels at Leeds Road and was it Clix Chewing Gum? Great childhood memories!

When Wagon Wheels were Wagon Wheels at Leeds Road and was it Clix Chewing Gum? Great childhood memories! I remember those too and I also usually bought a cup of oxo at the ground and then a hotdog from a van that was usually parked across the road from Ricky's bar on Leeds Road!

He did yes, didn't he score 2 that game, a deflected shot at the Cowshed end.

Remember that spell after Christmas when we were hot then went 5/6 games without a goal out of nowhere. Went to Cardiff after no goals for so long are were something like 4-0 up in half an hour!

I wasn't in a position to see Town at that time, but just watching the highlights makes me think how much better football was back then. Not much tippy tappy shit at the back on that video, ball out, actually finds someone, and someone with pace. It's dog-shite these days in comparison, mind I might have changed my mind if I'd seen the five in a row without a goal.

I haven’t had chance to watch the vid but if Chris Hutchings and Robert Wilson both scored it was a 3-3 draw if I remember rightly. Edit. Just watched it and yes it was,Mark Smith got the other.

One of my favourite Town away games that one, there can’t have been more than 100 of us Town fans in the paddock that day. Not suprising as we hadn’t scored for 5 matches… The sun shone,Maskell was on fire, the Cardiff fans had a sit in protest… A great day out! Everyone turned up expectantly for the next home game against Reading. And we lost 0-1.🙈 Trevor Senior scored. Of course he did…

Plastic pitch at Preston.
Luton had one as well, any more?
Also, fans caged behind the fencing, just imagine that in this era. Treated like cattle by the authorities.

That got me thinking about how shite our 15th best goal will have been this season.

Were the plastic pitches an idea from the US or Europe? Trying to avoid games being postponed or something?
They were a bit harsh and shiny though, a bit like Slapps and my heads… 😉

They were a bit harsh and shiny though, a bit like Slapps and my heads… 😉 The 2G artificial pitches were not great to play on mainly for the burns you got when making a tackle & coming into contact with the surface, the new 3G/4G pitches are really good & quite popular in the lower leagues now.......Don't think Town ever won a game on one so banning them came as a relief in 1995.

There's some great photos of Town's visit to Deepdale in 1992-93, Town's players were playing with their shorts and socks over tracksuit bottoms, presumably because of the pitch!

The New years day game at Blackpool was halted for around 10 minutes when Iffy who'd just come on as sub lost one of his contacts, we were right at the side of pitch taking the piss saying 'you might do better without them' & other stuff, anyway he found it then scored the bloody equaliser five minutes later......No prizes for guessing where Iffy headed, great banter & all good fun.
