I was fortunate enough to do my Work Experience (if you can call it “work”) with Town’s Football In The Community. Was talking to Thome and his agent whilst getting something to eat! Jacko spat his dummy out when heard he’d gone on trial at Stoke when was supposed to be still with us. Ended up signing for Wednesday not long after and being sold to Chelsea for around £3m then to Sunderland for £4.5m - just our luck! Watched him play for our reserves at the stadium. We had Ian Goodison and another Jamaican trialist around the same time. I never saw Emerson Thome play for our reserves, but I do remember seeing Ian Goodison. Mostly because my mate referred to him as Ian Not-Very-Good-ison. |

He scored double figures last season in the premier league. 'Playing hardball' and spitting our dummy out on deadline day then letting Luton come in last minute just summed the club up since 18/19. |

Other Jamaican lad we had on trial was Theo Watmore, midfielder. Both he and Goodison ended up having decent careers in lower two divisions.
Remember us being strongly linked with Bolivian international Jaime Moreno in the early days of the ill-fated 2000-2001 as we continued to look to plug the gap left by Stewart's sale.
