Hello all, With it being two weeks until the transfer window shuts, we're working on a fun episode to release on Deadline Day about some of the players that have been linked with Town but never played in our beloved blue and white stripes. And we need your help! We need to think of as many good players as possible who were linked to Huddersfield Town but never joined the club. It could be a strong link like Dean Hoyle admitting in an interview that Adama Traore nearly joined the club or a very weak rumour like the one Examiner article that mentioned Town would bring Phil Foden to the John Smith's Stadium if then Manchester City Assistant manager Mikel Arteta was appointed Town boss, loose link to say the least! We've got a special guest joining us too and we're all going to pick our XIs of transfer-linked players before making the ultimate XI. If you've got a suggestion, please post in this thread and we'll make sure to read as many out as possible! All we need is some shred of proof so a link or a screengrab would be great. Not correct. A bid was accepted but then Gianluca Vialli said he didn't want to sell him, according to Terry himself. |

Does it have to be Town related? theres been some brilliant stories in other clubs. Didnt Sheff Utd turn down Maradona? Zlatan couldn't sign for Blackburn because of the volcano ... etc

I remember all that about Traore, didn't sign off in time then he got injured or some such malarkey. So we got the speed twins instead ... Yay |

Two that jump out are Tony Pulis and George Shipley.
In 1989, Hand tried to sign Pulis from Bournemouth and Pulis actually agreed to sign. However, Bournemouth boss Harry Redknapp was short of players and asked that he remained at Dean Court to play in a cup game. It lingered on a bit and after a while, Eoin Hand got pissed off and pulled out of the deal.
When Steve Smith was manager in 1987 he actually signed Shipley for £35,000. Shipley was on the back page of The Examiner shaking hands with Smith but a week later he asked to be released from the agreement. He then signed for Gillingham shortly afterwards.

Also there was a rumour at the time that Town wanted to sign Tony Hateley in their previous stint at the top table but, the story goes that we wouldn't stump up the £100000. Him and Frankie would have been a formidable pairing

Traore played in a meaningless friendly, got injured and we pulled out of the deal. |
