Thank goodness for that. Interesting stat - we have not won our first three in a row at the start of a season since 1979....that's a long time.

Today just proves that making even the playoffs won't be easy. Definitely need a proven goalscorer and LCB before the end of the transfer window. Very poor today, but will take 3 points nevertheless.

I don't really know what to make of that. 3/3 and a clean sheet. We could easily have scored 5 with even a moderate amount of composure in front of goal and Shrewsbury didn't threaten at all 2nd half, but 1st half was defensively worrying. A couple of brilliant saves from Nicholls saved us.
I'm not overly sold on this style yet either, the centre mids are too high and we just end up with a big hole in midfield and the centre halves short of options. IMO we need a left footed centre half who can bring the ball out and will give us more options.

Not the best.but too open early doors when pushing forward more but that said still should have been 3 with Marshall header and the Healey one on one. Hogg absolutely killed the midfield by never getting on the ball, meant wiles and evans could not get into the game unless they dropped way too deep. Miller mom for First half performance though Marshall will end up getting it. Basically 3 points and one to forget on a performance level. The panic stations will be out no doubt and I do think a couple of quality would help but I said start of season if we could be taking 9 points to Rotherham I’d be happy. Let’s hope we can put in a better performance than last year there as they’re struggling so far.

We shouldn’t be only winning 1-0 against teams like Shrewsbury.

Not going to score enough goals at this rate. Backline isn’t built for all this possession either… but a win is a win

We are going backwards rather than getting stronger. If we don’t get a striker and a quick centre half in, there is no chance of top 2.
All fairness to Shrewsbury they went for it, but it’s a side who havnt won since March I think. I was expecting a better performance after Duff got into them after last week. At times it was like last season with our missing tackles, poor passing and at times desperate defending.
It’s 3 points, and that’s what matters today, but desperately need those 2 players in my opinion.

Well a win.
First half Shrewsbury missed some decent chances.
Duff played the wing backs much deeper in the second half and Shrewsbury never really had another decent chance.
Some of our passing today was sloppy.
This will piss a few off but Kasumu showed more energy in 15 mins than Evans did the whole game. Also Pearson looked more reliable than Spencer who lost the ball again too many times creating attacks for them.
Hogg played some awful passes.
Lee Nichols had an outstanding game.
We desperately need a focal point up front because it isn’t there.
Marshall should have scored three.
UTT.

Koroma looking our best striker again.
Ward and Marshall were completely anonymous bar the goal obviously. Marshall looks like a kid playing a mans game and is a bizarre signing out of all the possible ones we could have made this summer

If KN watched that and doesn't think we need more investment in defence and attack then I'm afraid he needs to realign his expectations for promotion.
Everyone can have an off game but far too many did at once today. Struggling to defend at times and missing absolute gobbers at home to bottom of the league in league 1 is a wake up call.

As many have said, that was a poor performance. Shrewsbury, whilst limited, were quite good in spells. probably better than anybody expected. We just never seemed to click today. It is early days, though, and a win is a win. Onto Rotherham (via Walsall).

That highlighted 2 things for me. 1) the standard at League 1 is generally bang average and streets away from the Championship. 2) once again how much we need a decent, experienced striker.

How can you say making the playoffs will be difficult when we've 9 points on the board and never got out of 2nd gear? Make it make sense.
