You know what, this lads' power and Marshall's energy might work really well up front. I have a good feeling about this. So you're not starting the player who has looked like our most threatening so far, Koroma? He's started the season really well and looks a lot better upfront than out wide in my opinion. Granted his appearances out wide were all at a higher level Yes I'd put him wide, mad thing this options thing, been a while...

Fact is even if your selective facts are right both don't have a great goal scoring record, but facts aside it's the here and now that matters . Every time we sign a striker some go on like we signed Messi or the legend Marcus Stewart. Give it a few weeks if he hasn't scored they will be singing a different tune. I would be very happy if I am proven wrong then you're all welcome to stick the boot into me, metaphorically of course. My statistic isn't selective. It's every game each player has ever played at this level. The literal opposite of selective. Both are the definition of proven goalscorers at this level, over a significant period of time. In any career, players go through hot and cold spells of form, so taking a tiny snapshot can't be regarded as representative, as I'll demonstrate. It's interesting that May also lost form last season, at around the same time Ladapo was struggling to find goals. He didn't suffer as much, but, penalties aside, he only scored 6 times after 9th December. That included a run of one goal in 13 between 16th December and 24th February: directly comparable with Ladapo's one in 14 at the same club at the same time. Perhaps the issue wasn't the players in front of goal, but those providing them with opportunities? It's strange how May has gone from not scoring to getting a goal a game in very short order - perhaps he's suddenly been given chances by a team set up to make better use of his own attributes? We had May - same age, similar goalscoring record - lined up for £750,000 and fans were salivating. We sign Ladapo - with his proven record of being a part of successful sides at this level - for nothing and it's as though it's the second coming of Craig Whitington or Fola Onibuje for some. We're short up front, as the club has acknowledged. Between windows, we're restricted to free agents. A look at the free agent list, and it's slim pickings; some decent players, but many of those won't drop to League One even if it means the end of their careers. Ladapo wasn't available two weeks ago; he became available, and we've signed him. I can virtually guarantee that had he gone to, say, Bolton, half the Town fans moaning about us signing him would be moaning about us being caught cold in the market and him going elsewhere. Some of the hyperbole has been ridicolous. I've seen Ladapo compared to Hudlin for instance. Hudlin is never likely to make it at League One level. If he scores 5 goals at this level in his career I'll be surprised; I'll be surprised if he plays 15 games at this level, never mind scores goals. But Ladapo has fired sides to promotion in this division three times. He may well have deficiencies in his all-round game. He may be someone who doesn't contribute much outside putting the finishing touches to the work of others. I don't think he'll hold the ball up and act as a big foil for another player. He'll be there to get half a yard in the danger area and score a goal - that thing we've struggled to do when we've created chances. It's clear from the players we've gone for that we've been looking for a fox in the box who may not bring much to all-round play - and I have my own view on that - and Ladapo does fit that bill, as do May and Taylor. He may not score the goals we expect. He might prove to be a busted flush. That's football. I'm not going to dance around telling people 'I told you so' either way. But give the lad a chance and please don't use very narrow, very selective statistics. As the old saying goes, form is temporary. Good post. Also "We are Terriers" said xG data suggested he wasn't provided with many high-quality chances at Charlton whereas at other clubs, he over-performed xG.

I think it’s fair to say that if we get all our strikers fit (and i know that’s a big if😭) then we have a good blend of different styles of strikers. We’ve got a bigger, physical striker in Ladapo, a creative dribbler in Koroma, an energetic pacy youngster in Marshall, a physical energetic poacher in Healey and a more classy player witt the ball at his feet in Radulovic. That is 5 very decent options for League One, and while I feel like there is no standout 20 goal a season player in there (Healey if he gets fit maybe) the quality in rotation and off the bench should be very useful throughout the season. Note - I haven’t forgotten Ward, he’s just useless😂 Marshall isn't Pacy. He's not slow but he definitely isn't quick Shearer nor Kane pacy. Just need to get the ball between those posts 24 feet apart. Simple.

He definitely benefited from the quality and frequency of chances created by his free flowing footballing Ipswich teammates. We need to improve these areas hugely to utilise him.

That's not how DATM works mate, he's either going to be shit or world class. And some (on both sides of the argument) won't change their tune even if they're proved wrong I am happy to be proved wrong time will tell, problem is before you know it time has run out. I think there are three sides on DATM, I told you so side, well you were right side and the side that thinks losing in a tin pot cup is no big deal. Call me an old cynic but could katiemterrier27 be the reincarnation of a poster who was recently banned on here? Not the perfect timeline but not far off, and the female persona could be a ruse to throw our trusty DATM guardians off the scent?

"La-da-po, aha aha, I like it, aha aha." Fuck me rigid etc Could be a good signing, nice one Town. Funky. Could work. or La-la-la-la-la-la-LAAAAA-PA-DO "Oooowh Freddie La-Daaaa po." Like the Anthony Joshua and Derek Chisora song they sing at the boxing fits perfectly.

Very selective use of statistics to needlessly stick the boot in to Town. Alfie May (31): 13,903 minutes in League One, 77 goals. A goal every 180.5 minutes. Freddie Ladapo (31): 12,898 minutes in League One, 67 goals. A goal every 192.5 minutes. Take any player on a short run of games and it'll give a misleading impression. Yeh I think need to go off a larger sample. Tbh we just need to go off what he does for us. The only thing that bothers me is the two year deal. Can't be many 31 year old professional footballers signing one year deals, I'd think that's probably quite rare.

I don't know Freddie's home situation but if he has a family he will not want to move them around on 12 month contracts. He did 6 months at Charlton when I assume he was settled in East Anglia. For us to get the best out of him he wants to feel he has a chance to settle and is getting a fair deal.

Yeh you’re probably right.plus since posting I did think that it actually made sense to an extent from a club point of view.ward and koroma out of contract next summer and Marshall goes back. So should we be able to do the business needed and sign 1 if not 2 first team starting centre forwards we would have ladapo as an off the bench option…I think it’s probably fair to say that’s a better/different option to that of Danny Ward. I think ladapo may play the off to bench role for us this season also unless he really gets on a roll. The Ipswich league 1 promotion season he came from the bench a large proportion of the time and scored 17/18 goals.

When was the lst time we had a natural no 9 who has a bit of presence and knows where the goal is ? Lets face it a one legged blind pygmy with a glass eye would be an improvement on the shite we have at the moment.
Looks a proper "old fashioned " kinda striker that will thrive on crosses from Sorenson !
Thanks for signing Freddy - now all we need is a song for you !

We could be pleasantly surprised with this signing. Seems physical enough, I like the goals he scores when he receives the ball on the half turn with his back to goal. A good option. Of course the highlight reels don't show misses or misplaced passes or touches. But, he manages to bring something different to us, and can score goals, keep himself fit, and put in performances. Much has been said about May & Taylor. But, if Ladapo gets 15+.We'd all be delighted. I’m glad we’ve got Ladapo. Taylor and May were great but Freddie was always the man!

Then how about giving him a chance before picking out the worst stats you can find and branding his signing as ‘same old Town’? That's not how DATM works mate, he's either going to be shit or world class. And some (on both sides of the argument) won't change their tune even if they're proved wrong Admins- sticky this post for new members’ guidance.

Whilst I take Cartwright’s comments with a pinch (nay, a bucketful) of salt, it IS possible we were monitoring his situation contract-wise. He was only released a week n half ago so anything’s possible. But with Cartwright’s past record I’m inclined to agree, even if we monitored the situation, that we’ve only gone for him as Plan C, rather than Cartwright’s intimation that he was on top of the situation the whole time I think that plan C is a bit optimistic, it appears to be more oh eck I better do something before I get the sack. Just grateful whatever woke him up we did something to sort out the situation.

The starting point for the Admins should be to compare IP addresses. He's probably posting on a different network or using a dynamic IP but you never know ... We do indeed check IP addresses and other details when inspecting new member joining requests. Nothing so far is coming up suspect. However, this has been the case with other people in the past and eventually the mask slips, and we run them out of town. In the interests of fairness (and making an assumption that the aforementioned individual is not one and the same as katieterrier) then let’s stick with debating Lapado. Witch hunts are not required before Hallowe’en. 🧙♀️🎃

This all feels a bit like when folk where insisting that 30 plus Jordan Rhodes ‘still had it’ and would easy get 15 a season given the service or Healey who’ll be absolutely unbelievable if he stays fit. Another 30 plus journeyman who were left hoping can rekindle form of seasons gone by. Time will tell but it all feels test again a bit of a last minute panic dressed up by Cartwright as an carefully thought out move. Absolute best case scenario is that he was always 3rd choice behind May and Taylor. But a lot of the more justifiable* criticism aimed at the failure to land May and Taylor was that we didn't have a back-up. Maybe Ladapo was the back up all along. Most likely (imo) is that they rejected their 3rd, 4th or 5th choices when they got moves elsewhere because the deals for May/Taylor still seemed to be on. Or we lost out on the "maybes" on the PL loan players primarily because the time and effort had been put into securing the services of our top two targets. Most likely is that when Taylor was in the building, Ladapo WAS the back-up. I'm seeing this as a bit like the Fraizer Campbell deal. Some rated him, others didn't but whilst he was no Marcus Stewart or Rhodes Mk1 he wasn't a Craig Whittington either. He did an ok job. In the circumstances, "OK" is fine. * Justifiable as in, not "we should have just outbid Birmingham".

I think most on here believed we needed another striker , Freddie could prove to be a master stroke, I am certainly not going to criticise him before he's even kicked a ball for Town . Good luck Freddie I hope your time here proves to be successful, welcome to the great Huddersfield Town.
