Sikh Temple FC often influenced the ref's decisions Sikh Temple was always an interesting away game, put it that way. Interesting as in, is my car safe, someone else can take the corners, and why o why did I have to score that open goal!!! Ah the Hudd & District Sunday League - fond memories Sikh Temple wasn't quite so bad if you were playing their First Team down at Leeds Road Playing Fields. At least it was a 'neutral' venue and you were virtually guaranteed one of the better refs. There were way more issues if you were playing their Seconds up at Holt Avenue, on the Estate. Both teams crammed into a shipping container to change in, a poor ref (if at all) that also didn't want to be there, a constant air of intimidation from both players and anyone on the sidelines, and all the time concerned about the safety of your car and any valuables that you'd stashed there. A fucking dreadful experience all round. I once had the misfortune to be playing their First Team on the Estate, when I played for the Wappy and they *really* didn't like Lloyd Maitland. To be fair, he didn't give a fuck about them either and had no hesitation in getting his retaliation in beforehand. A tense Sunday morning was had by all...

Good to have Graeme back. Thanks pal. we'll see how long it lasts. The current regime seem a little Trumpian when it comes to anyone even referencing their decision making, so I expect even a comment like this one I am typing now to cause me an issue. #DownWithProject2025 I’d change ‘regime’ for ‘one certain administrator’. He is reaching for his pocket right now! 😜

I used to play in the district league a few stand out for me
Dalton at the dram centre, got studded all down my inner thigh, ref waved play on, next time he had the ball I went straight into him, got booked and there sub kicked me right up the arse lol I think the ref was scared
Hade edge away was on some kind of cow field, the smallest I’ve ever played they had been hammered every game like 8-0 7-0 ect , we had already beaten them 6-0 at home, no ref, so there coach reffed, 1-0 down with 25 to go, and our player broke his leg so we had to replay it. Gutted they was, he gave us fuck all all game not even a throw in

Sikh Temple. I had been refereeing for a short while in the late eighties and one Thursday I call from the West Riding FA asking me if I was available to a county Cup game this weekend.I was delighted, best appointed I had been given in my short career to date. Some team in Huddersfield called Sikh Temple. Never heard of them so ment nothing to me Turned out an older and wiser ref than me had given backward on the game due to a “calf “ injury.
Got there early parked up and was given the eye by the local youth and didn’t like they way they were taking an interest in my nice new company motor. i’m there in the middle of this estate in Huddersfield ,no liners to assist, and WW3 going on between Temple and a team from Bradford. I sent off two from Temple for smacking opponents in the face within the first 20 mins and cautioned another four or five. Needed eyes in the back of my head. As one of the Temple I had walked was leaving the pitch he shouts back “ I know which is your motor “ Deep joy and all for about £15 in those days.Very quick getaway and relieved to get back to civilisation in Dewsbury in one piece😂

I once played 5 B teamers in my A team due to a school trip and beat Ossett who were top. Guess what.... Ossett then complained to the FA that we played players unavailable for that specific team. I had the evidence that Ossett wanted to play the game after I explained the situation. The league then deducted my team points. I get the rules about A teasers dropping to B and C etc. But the other way round? Common sense is that some children have had a chance to play in a higher challenged game. First thing i’d say is a massive well done to you for putting 5 B team players into your A team against top of the league. Most coaches would have tried everything to get it postponed until their A teamers were back. Bet that wasn’t an easy conversation the week after when all your A team players were available and their parents wanted them back in the team…..But the B team parents wanted their kids to stay in the A team. How the hell did Ossett have the nerve to complain after being beaten by a team half full of B team players….The joys of junior grassroots Exactly. Especially when during the week I asked Ossett if it was okay if I played 5 B Teamers otherwise I would have to request a postponement. The conversations the following week went easier than expected. I was lucky to have a group of parents who supported my decisions. But due to the rule of how many can swap between teams and the fact I had gone with only 1 sub, so had 3 spaces anyway made it fairly easy.

U13’s Division 6 league title play off a couple of season ago after top 2 finished on equal points and records against each other Lepton B Team v White Rose C Guess which team brought 5 A team players, including lads who’d been in and out of Academies…….And then they lost on Penalties 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I once played 5 B teamers in my A team due to a school trip and beat Ossett who were top. Guess what.... Ossett then complained to the FA that we played players unavailable for that specific team. I had the evidence that Ossett wanted to play the game after I explained the situation. Common sense is that some children have had a chance to play in a higher challenged game. I remember when I was a kid, I played for Wyke Wanderers and we were head to head with Ossett Sporting Boys for the title. We'd had a game called off so had 1 game left to play after Ossett had played all their games. It was a midweek match vs Ossett Albion who had finished near the bottom of the league so a routine win was expected. That was until we turned up and pretty much all the first 11 for Ossett Sporting Boys took to the field for Ossett Albion! Our coach was fuming but back then there were no cut offs for transfers. We ended up drawing and losing the league because of it. Dont think the teams are set up like thay anymore over there, but always reminds me of that mat h whenever anyone talks about Ossett!

Surprising because Hull is such a lovely place. I remember going to a university open day in Hull, when I got to Hull I took the bus to the university. I was sat there thinking this is a s**t hole but surely any minute now we will pass through an area that doesn't look like Kabul on a bad day, never happened. As for the university when I got there I had to go through a overgrown field to get to the right department. Yeah, my sis went to nursing college in Hull in the 90s, chose to live in Hessle rather than in Hull itself :D Was Hessle less hassle than ‘Ull?

To be fair, he didn't give a fuck about them either and had no hesitation in getting his retaliation in beforehand. A tense Sunday morning was had by all... It was the Holt Avenue ground I was thinking of - exactly as you described!
