I know many think we should play from back to front and play more 'football' but we have done better by clearing the bloody thing from further up the pitch and chasing it down. Pearson clears the ball, Lees clears the ball, Turton clears it. No idea what Nigel was up to at times last night, looked like he was playing five a side on a tuesday night with his mates on occasions.. He lacks urgency and the ability to head the ball forward as far as i can tell.. He is the centre back that is being targetted for pressing, it needs sorting. The longer, higher stuff forward from Wrexham was aimed at him, he headed a few under no pressure weakly, straight to their midfield runners.. Many dont rate Pearson or Lees but their headers go further and higher, its defending.. with you on Pearson and Lees but you’re very harsh there on Nigel he did a cracking job on their best forward had him in his pocket for practically all the game nullifying their main goal threat his crosses young Virgil is improving game on game and can be a standout for us this season. No dont think hes being harsh at all. If I was a scout watching us for any future opponent id be telling the manager that our obvious defensive weakness is Lonwijk in the air and they should target him as much as possible.

I would also counter that by saying a defensive weakness is the pace of Lees and Pearson. Depends on the sort of strikers the opposition have.

Not sure what game you guys were watching. Lonwijk was one of our best players against Wrexham and was completely dominant all game. The only bad thing was his silly yellow but even then he did very well considering he had that to worry about all game. You just need to go on twitter and you’ll see that practically all the talk from Wrexham fans was about how good Lonwijk was.

In some ways he was good..bringing the ball out of defence..feeding it into good positions. The stuff that Wrexham fans might notice. But he was dominated throughout in the air ( as he always is) and even when not really challenged his headed clearances kept skewing off sideways into the middle of the pitch into dangerous areas. We were lucky not to be punished as it happened 5 or 6 times. IMO any scout watching that game would see his weakness in the air as something they should target.

Lonwijk is about to turn 22, in his third loan in league 1. Really composed on the ball (too much at times), is quick and can play good passes. He’s not going to be the full package otherwise he’d be playing for Wolves, or at least in the championship.
His heading isn’t a strength but he’s decent enough. He was up against a 6”5 lower league target man whose entire game is built around his heading. Constantly shredding him for being poor in the air is I think unwarranted and a bit unrealistic given we’re in league 1 and wanted a ball playing centre half. We also kept a clean sheet!
Colwill wasn’t great in the air and cost us a few goals, now he’s starting for Chelsea and England.

Virgil’s no where near perfect. But I’ve not seen one central defender in this league who’s better than him on the ball.

My point being for me the lad had a very good night

Nige was MOM for me on Tuesday Personally id have gone with Miller, but thought all the back line including chapman were excellent. for me, nige needs to play alongside a dominant header. Like a pairing!!!!! his distribution and the way he travels with the ball is far far better than anything we've had at centre half for ages.

Watch it again. The ball is absolutely slammed at him. He does well to even get a touch that sets him almost up for a a shot I think we must be talking about different incidents. The one I was referring to was when He collected a rebound from a tackle at the edge of the box, ran 12 yards unchallenged directly in on goal but could not keep up with the ball and the keeper came out at the edge of the six yard box to collect, as I said he is too slow for this level. If you think that incident proves he is slow, I think you are just desperate to find a reason to slate him. The ball could have bounced anywhere and it was always going to favour the keeper going wawy from Bojan atr he speed it did. .

A thought. Watching last I thought the players that were already at the club pre Nagle and Cartwright were the ones up for the fight. Pearson, lees, turton, kasumu, even ward when he came on. Miller the exception, class player and an excellent signing. Kane - poor Bojan - poor Wiles - poor Evans - poor again for a short cameo Healey - did okay but has had zero effect on so many games. Sorensen out for 8 weeks - not fit to lace sorba’s boots and that’s saying something. Cartwright - how is he still there ? Why is multi billionaire owners still listening to him ? That’s the worry for me. Why ? A thought. What a load of bollox.

Good job his role is to sweep behind the central centre back and to also bring the ball forward. Modern day football will be great for him if he gets a chance at wolves with most the game the ball been played on the floor. I do agree with heading - especially the accuracy of it, being his weakness. Cue a headed goal for him tomorrow now 😁

Not desperate at all , just giving my opinion on one of our strike force who runs like he is pulling a caravan. Some on here think he had a good game on Tuesday.I don’t share that opinion. Doesn’t make me right or them wrong .
