Just starting a thread as the player arrivals one has gone off topic to merch…..worthy of its own thread! I agree some of the new ‘US’ inspired stuff is not my cup of tea and well over priced, but in defence of the club, there are a few items at a decent price - see the items under £20..: shop.htafc.com/fashion/fashion-men/tshirts/?id=16&subid=41&sortby=lowSaying that, I’d like to see more affordable stuff rather than weird expensive varsity jackets…..!!

I'm quite happy that they seem to be diversifying and enlarging the range. Some items won't be to everyone's tastes, but what in life is? I know the majority on here seem to hate them but if those varsity jackets were a lot cheaper I'd have one. The club can't win in some cases; introduce new ranges get shot at, stay with the old style clobber get shot at. I'm a bit like westislandterrier in that if it's got Town on it I'm at least interested. There's loads of stuff in the club shop I wouldn't entertain owning (never have and never will own a baseball cap) but we haven't all got the same tastes and if they introduce new items that can only help the revenue streams. There'll be punters (mugs? ) for every bit of merch they bring out.

Interesting subject. As it’s Friday afternoon, I’ve stopped work to look at the range of products on offer. Town unisex Denim Jacket Town Hockey Hoodie Town Varsity Jacket Tog 24 Sherpa Fleece
Appreciate that they are testing the market and it’s good to see them trying new things but I’m struggling to imagine seeing Town Fans wearing these garments.

Just get the basics right and follow the lead of other clubs who have commercial success. To be frank that jacket and some of the other over priced tat has me thinking that whoever is in charge is seriously lacking in judgement.... and probably not listening to existing staff.
I can't think of a single person who would think that jacket is a good idea. Last time I saw the players looking that embarrassed was when they were forced to wear that Paddy Power spoof kit.

As we are approaching 5 months of cold Yorkshire weather , I’d have thought it would make more sense to concentrate on warmer clothing, coats, gilet’s ( not one of these on offer ) and jumpers. Westie will be freezing up in his area wearing just his varsity jacket.

Maybe the US-style stuff is aimed at the US market? Not so long ago folk were buying Sacramento Republic shirts, and piggybacking off the interest in Wrexham would be savvy.
Either that or they were either
A) for Halloween B) a dare

Best value coat I ever got was the Super League bench coat, still wear it sometimes now, think they call it a "drill parka" now, although mine hasn't got a hood iirc

I’ve not looked at merchandise previously but £130 for that god awful tacky varsity jacket I mean…wow.
And £60 for the equally as bad baseball style shirt!
Somebody somewhere has got it seriously wrong there.
Edit: I’ve just spotted the hockey hoodie at £65! I mean that is just a wind up surely?

£130 for a tacky bomber jacket with a league one club's branding on it. Town have priced own brand clothing like a middle range high street brand for years, just with worse and fewer designs

The club have to make money somewhere. Our ST prices are not sustainable for a club to even remotely operate with a profit. So, I applaud the club trying different avenues to generate income and revenue. Long may it continue, they can't appease everyone. I don't think a lot of the merch is necessarily for our older generation of fans, more so for the younger catchment age. It's similar to what Jamie Carragher said "Nobody grows up wanting to be Gary Neville" instead "Nobody grows up wanting to be a Huddersfield Town fan". It's a poisoned chalice for us unfortunately. Certainly good for character building though.

I think some of the new stuff is quite good. They do have to try new things. Some will fall on their arse, some will be a major success, everything else will be somewhere in between. Can't have a go at them for trying.
I'd guess a lot of the new stuff is aimed at a certain age demographic. Possibly younger end Millennials / Older Gen Z?? and I can see them liking the new range.
If I was 20 or so years younger, with the disposable income I had at that age, then I can imagine I'd be looking to buy some.
There should definitely be a range of more affordable stuff though

I bet there's literally thousands of fans that look and just think, "nice, but too expensive" or, more likely, they just don't even bother looking as they assume/know it's pretty much all just too pricey. They really need to do some good quantitative market research to find out what sort of stuff people would buy and at what prices. KN has talked a lot about increasing the revenue made from retail/merchandise sales. And they definitely need to. But they need to really hit the sweet spot with regards to pricing & range to tempt people to buy en masse.

I doubt there is a significant market for Town related merchandise, (or indeed for that of any club outside a few massive premier league teams), other than for the actual football shirts. That might temporarily change in circumstances such as a play off final.

That might temporarily change in circumstances such as a play off final. In a way I agree, but they HAVE done really nice casual wear in the past. I’ve got about half a dozen Polo shirts that I wear for work, neat with a discreet crèst, usually one block colour but a couple with blue panels too I think most people buy hats, I hate baseball caps but I’ve got loads of beenies, a couple of flat caps and a (I think it’s called) pork pie hat all with nice designs on Tbf to the club the casual wear is usually quite nice, just pricy compared to non-logo tees/jumpers but that goes for anything branded I’ve found I don’t think I’ve ever bought training gear, but I’ve had some bought for me in varying qualities Edit: just ask westislandterrier if there’s a market 😂

That might temporarily change in circumstances such as a play off final. Agreed it wont be a significant number. However, there's what 15K season ticket holders, ok lots of kids so maybe 10K Adults?? Plus a number of supporters who can't attend matches due to work, playing football, living away etc etc. So your back up to around 15K Adults I'd day. Even if only 20% could be persuaded to merchandise, that a market of 3,000 adults that might be persuaded to buy merchandise. Not a huge market, but not one to be sniffed at. And if you can sell volume to that market, then the market grows as people see people in Town merch and think "oh I like that, I think I'll have a look"

Love that varsity jacket except ... It's "too Town". If that had a subtle HTAFC somewhere on the front, not that shite on the back, I'd have it. Love the style.

Woo hoo I’m not the only one who (mostly) likes it, agree about the too bold print too, should be way more subtle, but subtle is Americans’ strong point 😀
