Bollocks. I like the driving range. It's easy and fun to hook balls into the car park.

This is fantastic news for the Town. Not only is is going to bring in 900 jobs in a time when you read about a factory closing down every night in the Examiner, but it has to be good for the club as well. It must help in bringing in extra away fans as they could come and make a weekend of it. There can't be many more clubs in the country with those sort of facilities for the fans to enjoy pre and post match. At the moment there's a debate as to whether we go to the Gas club or Give Edan another chance for a pre match drink ;D I wonder if this is the reason Sir Dean Hoyle sold his business, perhaps he's going to be a major investor in this project. Exciting times ahead if your a town fan I think, we just need to get things right on the pitch and get into the Championship and we will be the envy of all our West Yorkshire neighbors. :udders:

Disagree. I worry about the impact this will have on the Town centre, which is hardly thriving as it is. I'm concerned about green belt land being built on and question whether or not this will be financially viable, or if it will just end up empty.
Good news about the 900 jobs, but in all honesty I'd be more excited about a new car manufacturer or somethhing similiar moving into Town, most jobs created by the HD1 project are going to be unskilled and low paid work. Hardly going to make the local public rich.

I see what you mean, but unfortunately there isn't going to be a car manufacturer coming to Huddersfield. Having something like this though will help to raise not only the football clubs profile, but also the Towns profile which has to be a good thing for the Town of Huddersfield :nodding:

It might create 900 jobs, but if it kills a few pubs off in the town centre it could see Huddersfield losing 1000 jobs quite easily. Is the club actually going to benefit from this at all?

I wonder how many of those 900 jobs are sustainable long term and not just temporary construction jobs.
I also wonder why anyone would want to live in an 'apartment' across from the gas works when they could live somewhere nice.
I can understand a decent budget hotel within walking distance of the Town centre being a success though...the overnight business trip hotels in Hudds are all a bit out in the middle of nowhere. I know when I travel with work I prefer to get somewhere in a town centre or near to something lively so I can get out of the hotel in the evening and walk back.
21 bars and restaurants!? Maybe thats where the 900 jobs are, people being paid to go and stand in a pub to make it look busy?!

Is the club actually going to benefit from this at all? The Examiner article implies that the development is a KSDL managed development, so I would think that as things its nothing to do with the football club at all given that KSDL is nothing to do with Hudds Town as a legal entity. " Building work will begin in a year, with the first attractions open by 2013.
KSDL is 40% owned by Kirklees Council, with the Huddersfield Giants holding 20%.
The remaining 40% is currently held by Huddersfield Sporting Pride, owned by Giants chairman Ken Davy. Last month he agreed to pass these shares to Huddersfield Town.
However, he needs the council’s consent to go ahead with the transfer."

No the club won't benefit from this at all. not as it stands anyway. Davy laughably tried to imply all these out of town visitors would take a little wonder down to the stadium shop to buy some merchandise of a club they don't support!! Think that shows his usual level of understanding and/ or honesty. Not sure how having some shops and a hotel near the ground is going to raise the profile of the club. I can hardly see it making Sky Sports News! "BREAKING NEWS: YOU CAN BUY A PAIR OF SLACKS WITHIN 300 YARDS OF THE GALPHARM!!

Yes I remember asking the very question to Davy at the Patrons meeting and he was suitably vague in his answer.
Potentially it could be a nice little earner if this thing works for KSDL (and Town if we ever get the shares back). Are KSDL simply renting the land out for the development for which they will receive a ground rent, or has the land been sold off to developers does anyone know?

Any investment in the town should be welcomed.
The sooner it happens the better.
Hopefully the share issue will be well sorted by the time it kicks off and we can all support it.

I like the idea of the ski slope myself. Fancy myself as a bit of a Graham Bell on the slopes.
I've looked out on Mont Blanc from the top of the mountains above Chamonix, but I'm sure the view across to Fartown from the top of Kilner Bank is just as impressive.

Take a wander down to Xscape at Glasshoughton (or Cass Vegas as the local yokels call it), seems a similar development. Started as upmarket and full of promise but now it's just full of ferral chavs and overpriced plastic pizza and beer franchises. Please God, let us make a better job of it in Huddersfield.
