It's the Efe Sodje syndrome all over again isn't it? Can be brilliant but goes totally apeshoit from time to time.

You can't start with a 17 year old boy making his full debut in a high charged local derby in front of 35000!! Its madness and unfair on the kid to put that much on his shoulders. Gotta get a loan, simple as that.

The trouble is we have about 60 hours until the L**ds game and the players won't get home until about three this morning Then you want a loanee to train once (Friday) with the side and go into that L**ds game - and that's assuming we sort something out tomorrow. Not realistic IMO Frankly we have a major problem for Saturday and neither solution is appealing, a 17 year old kid or a older keeper who's never played with his teammates before!

Can ritchie get a emergency loan keeper in but i`ve a gut feeling you can`t? Worthington won`t play sat because ritchie says he needs another reserve game. I don`t know whether to go and watch the screen on saturday because i`m not paying 10.00 to watch another heavy defeat or do i go. kilroy i didn`t mean anything bad but you was biting my head off before i had modified my post.

Soz brother, just some people on here would have a go at smithies for something we havnt seen!
And we all know who these people are!
Its not ideal putting Smithies in on saturday but it looks like its going to happen. It could go very well people! He's an England international and must have something about him. If he has the talent to make it big which people say he has, then it maybe this is the opportunity for him to shine on saturday. Remeber tonight he had no preperation for what happened and wasnt warmed up, he could ba amzing on saturday. Its not ideal obviously but its irrelevent if we have no other option. Everyone has to have a debut someday, hopefully not carsonesque, lets get behind the lad. It could be his time to make himself standout.

I just think they've not been risking Worthy, but we'll need him as I don't have confidence in Collins at the moment I also can't see any other solution to Holdsworth playing right back (Hardy and Tom Clarke are further off match fitness than Worthy) Other option, Mirfin goes to RB but who plays alongside Nathan Clarke ... Williams? Killock? Kamara drops to right back and we sacrifice our most dangerous player Maybe Racchi will start at RB, but what a game to make your full debut in! ... Had a rethink we'll probably play Collins at right back

Older keeper every time. It wouldn't matter if he turned up a minute before the game Id still prefer an older head to a 17 year old .A keepers not a footballer. They don't have to fit into any formation or know any tactics. Just be strong, make the right decisions, make saves and not get overawed by the occasion. This was always going to happen eventually as we've only had 1 keeper AR considers good enough to play all season. With that in mind he 'surely' has already got a good idea on who he could bring in at short notice. What was that keepers name he had at Barnsley? The guy who lives in Huddersfield?

Do you mean Colgan The thing is training with keepers is important, you need to know if they'll come for the ball or not, have that confidence in them. That position is massively about communication and if you've never played together you won't have that Anyway this will be manna from heaven for the Glennon bashers. They've wanted him dropping for weeks now, by default they've got their wish!

This could see Glenda dropped for a while. i mean Smithies is obviously playing Saturday (unless a miracle happens) and Eastwood is also fit as well. If those two can perform over the next three games, who knows

They may not know for certain whether the keepers going to come for it or not. But wheres the change there?? Seems like good continuity to me!

If those two can perform over the next three games, who knows Well AR has a choice to make on the drive home Spend the next 48 hours trying to get a keeper in Or Spend the next 48 hours preparing his side for the L**ds game I suspect it will be the later. Smithies is a huge talent. Hopefully he's young enough not to let the pressure get to him! I like Glennon but his red card couldn't have happened at worse time!

i think Ritchie has no choice but to stick with either Smithies or Eastwood. if he tries to get someone else in it may be seen by the young keepers that he doesn't have faith in them.

Seems like we could have a "Young Joe Scarz" scenario here.
Too young and not good enough!
But give the lad a chance eh? he's only young!
We're playing against the misters here. We should be fielding misters in order to compete. Never mind throwing youngsters prematurely into the fray. If they were any good at such a young age they would be with a prem team.

Lets not play down Smithies - he is THE best English keeper in the under 18 bracket
He is also better (IMO) than THE best English U19 keeper, who's Eastwood
That's prety much a view accepted by most who've seen Eastwood and Smithies
Smithies has massive natural ability - that's not in any doubt
Just is he mentally tough enough ... yet
I think he will be
All is not lost

i think Ritchie has no choice but to stick with either Smithies or Eastwood. if he tries to get someone else in it may be seen by the young keepers that he doesn't have faith in them. Ritchie already done that when he said Eastwwod, our 2nd choice keeper, wasn't ready to play 1st team football yet! Playing smithies is too big a gamble. Your not just gambling with a boy in goal in such a huge game but you're gambling with smithies development. Its alright having faith in him but say he has a mare. 32000 leeds fans at him for 90 minutes and hes let Town down in a massive game we all desperately want to win? It could kill his confidence for ages

I think we should keep with smithies, he's blue and white through and through, and i dont think theres enough time to get an emergency keeper in, I can see him playing a blinder

MMM shocking result tonight, gonna struggle against leeds without 2 of our senior players then Just on a side note how did everyone think the sticky thing worked? The board still seems neat and tidy and ive never seen 12 pages of posts on a single game before... Feedback appreciated, thanks

Richard Wright was 17 when he broke into the Ipswich team in the Championship and was a ever present there after - it can happen
It's not ideal, but it's the hand we've been dealt so we have to face up to it
Think of it this way
It's a no lose situation for Smithies. He struggles, so what he's a kid what can we expect
He plays a blinder (which he is capable of) and he's instantly a Town hero
I'd love to be in his boots right now. All to gain, little to lose!
Like I say not ideal, but have some faith. I don't think we have any other (realistic) alternative

apologies is this has been said further up the thread (it's been a long day)
but isn't this the lad that saved a penalty against brazil in their world cup earlier this year?

Watched Smithies in world cup for England and he's class, lets give him a chance, and as a Town fan himself he'll want to stuff the yobs from Bellend Road as much as anyone

Ok look. Stop dreaming and wake up and smell the coffee
He's let 2 goals in tonight He'll be playing in one of the biggest games we've had for a long time, in front of a hostile bellend road crowd Hes's 17 years old for gods sake! He's too b loody young! I don't care how many penalty's he's saved (not really a sign of a good keeper anyway imho) forget the romance! this is ball busting shitkicking grim reality. NOT FOR INEXPERIENCED 17 YEAR OLD KIDS!

I'm with you on this one Mich.... its a game for pros not apprentices.... the kids might have potential but expecting them to match up to experienced professionals is stupid.... as is evident tonight.....

And it makes Frank Sinclair's sending off all the more frustrating. Plus, he was playing well and linking up with Kamara superbly.
