Out of the Youth Cup. Lost 2-1 at home to Charlton. When you look at the side all the bench and a lot of the first 11 are trialists - www.htafc.com/news/2023/december/young-terriers-exit-fa-youth-cup/Not really sure of the point of the academy this year - It's not long ago we had a U17 and U19 team now we barely have enough full time scholars to make up a 5 aside team! Sad thing as well is we never seem to sign any of these trialists. I mean look at the B Team we had that Sturridge come in, score a few goals and we still didn't offer even a short term deal despite having no fit strikers and not enough players to name a full bench. Begs the question under what circumstance we would sign a trialist! Literally no idea what the point of the academy is this season. May as well loan out the two or three who have a chance of a career to semi pro side (have them training with the B Team the rest of the week) and not bother with the rest and save the costs on the coaches etc That baffled me. By all accounts he was pretty impressive in the B games. Surely a six month or even 12 month contract wouldn't have been too much? Especially considering Ward's contract extension!** ** Yes I know that was down to King Colin but even so.

There’s was that winger aswell who got released from Spurs who apparently had a good trial spell

Unfortunately i was one of the 123 at the game last night. Town were awful - no money is being put into the b and u19 teams at the moment hence the results and the number of trialists hence why it looked 11 strangers on a pitch! Of the team yesterday: Hurl - stood as being a great leader and a decent keeper and it's no surprise he's signed a professional deal. He reminds me of Bilokapic when he was this age. The lad will go onto have a pro career whether it's with us or not only time will tell. Bakre - the only threat going forward for a lad of a young age he has great upper body strength and is another player we need to tie down to a deal. The rest were technically poor and lacked strength and to only lose 2-1 is a minor miracle.
Someone mentioned DJ Sturridge but as we know his dad, Dean, is Darren Moore's agent and that was the only reason he was on trial/training with us - he signed for Solihull Moors recently and has made little impact in the national league so far. In the 2 games i saw him play for the B team the guy was largely anonymous,

Winger Donnell Garrick & Striker Danny Isaac. DJ Sturridge has been signed by National League side Solihull Moors back in late November. He's been an unused sub in 2 matches and wasn't in their squad for the last match against Oldham. So not quite sure he's anywhere near Championship standard Kallum Cesey, the lad from Spurs, is still without a club. After he left us he want on trial with League One Lincoln City. Not sure if he's still on trial there or he's left. Stephen Pedrao, the lad released from Salford is still without a club I believe. Every single club consistently have lads in on Trial, very very few of them ever get a contract. Quite a few of the older U19s have been regulars with the B Team this season. Indeed Tom Iorpenda is actually still technically an U19. Of the B Team. Luke Daley, Muz Olagunju & Michael Acquah are all currently out on Loan.

I'm happy to be corrected on some of this, e.g. Sturridge It just looks to the outside like the Academy is utterly unloved this season. I'd be interested to see the decline in the Academy budget over the years but it must be fraction this season compared to when we ran U17 and U19 sides and flew sides to Germany for games and started to have tie ups with clubs Now we patch up a side up with trialists in the marque youth Cup competition. It's not really what you'd expect of a second tier professional football club There's a bit of talent in there. Bakre and Hurl mentioned. I watched the Emley preseason game and Mrisho is worth a name check from that. However if we're getting whipped every week these more talented lads are better at somewhere like Liversedge or Brighouse playing regular games in competitive games. It's something else we used to do 4 years ago but seems like we can't be arsed to find loans even - www.htafc.com/news/2019/january/loans-young-terriers-marriott--tear-join-larne-fc/I'd love to hear what Nagle's short term ambitions are for the Academy because it looks ignored right now

I think, bit of guessing here, that it was DH that started stripping it back when he stepped back in and cut costs to a minimum to try and sell the club. Not really a lot that KN can do in the short term as the season is underway and loads of kids already signed to clubs. The better local kids are at the like of Sheffield United, Wednesday, Barnsley etc and also a good few at Man U / City etc. However, we do know that they are re-opening the Academy as a Cat 3 www.htafc.com/news/2023/august/academy-expansion-plans-submitted-to-efl/So at the moment all we can really do it take youngsters on Trial and see if a few of them might have the potential to make the step up to the professional game. I'm sure we will hear a lot about future plans for the Academy once the Professional Game Academy Audit Company has done it's work throughout the season. It will certainly be interesting to hear what the plans are and how they hope to go about it.

There is absolutely no way thatnthe club isn't going to invest in the Academy moving forwards. Otherwise, we wouldn't have brought Wetherall in to oversee its development. Would imagine that the youth set up will start to look very different from next season.

My lad is in the Northern Representative Team for the JPL.
They had their first training session at Canalside in October and Town Scouts were present.
They are looking to have everything set up for the Younger ages again by July is what we were told by the Coaches.

One we missed? Huddersfield lad Jake Young (22) back to Bradford after banging them in at Swindon (16 goals in 22). Didn't even get on the team sheet on Saturday. Rumours are that they are looking to sell him.

The B-Team is instead getting stuffed 7-0 by Florists. Turton starting for Town. It looks a depleted squad for Town, which doesn’t bode well for tomorrow.
Is Aguilera playing for them?
EDIT: 8.

Luke Daly sent off with 2nd yellow early in second half. Was 0 2 up till about midway through half but sounds like they fell apart after that.

Think last night may be the bottom of the trough for the club with regards to B and Youth set-up. Enjoyed listening to the Russell interview and he comes across really well. Mentioned the need for a lot of recruitment at these levels and with Weatherall being brought in as well, I feel we may have a very busy summer ahead.

B team playing Wrexham today.
Diarra, Iorpenda, Ayina, Stone all playing. Along with Tom Edwards and a return to match action for Scott High (good to see him back if only that it's never nice for anyone to have an injury).
