Some people just don't understand that academy/B teams aren't always about the results. Never look too much at the result in these games. It's a learning process, each game their will be some form of instruction for learning. It could end up in a 7-0 loss, but it's getting the learning across that matters at this level. True but those cup games are the ones they target to win. To see how they are doing etc. So I would argue it should be more competitive if they’re on the track to first team The rest I get to a degree I. Terms of results. I mean the u19 never win, barely score an goal and are doing well if the opposition only score two. Their last 4 results have been; lost 5-1, 4-0, 3-0 and 5-0. All four games at home to Lincoln, Morecambe, Harrogate and burton www.htafc.com/academy/Under-19-fixtures/Hopefully one comes through in time and it’s worth it The U19's squad does though include a lot of 16 & 17 year olds, who are first and second year scholars Most of the opponents are 18 and 19 year old first and second year professionals. Does make a bit of a difference. For a bit of context for the Cup game, we played Forrest in the Premier League cup and the team was - Giosue Bellagambi; Neo Eccleston, Mustapha Olagunju, David Adewoju; Omari Mrisho (Michael Stone, 46’ (Conor Falls, 71’)), Josh Austerfield, Tom Iorpenda, Ben Midgley (c), Luke Daley (Cian Philpott, 75’); Pat Jones (Hazeem Bakre, 61’), Charles Ondo. We drew 1-1....Pretty good result that against a Premier League club. We played Rotherham in the Central Cup a few days later and the team was Giosue Bellagambi; Tom Lees, Mustapha Olagunju (c), David Adewoju; Neo Eccleston, Kallum Cesay (Myles Bright, 69’), Tom Iorpenda, Luke Daley (Dylan Helliwell, 46’); Cian Philpott, Hazeem Bakre, Stephan Padrao (Omari Mrisho, 69’) We won 5-1, against a team who's first team are just below us in the championship. Dam good result that. For the Fleetwood game the team was Francis Hurl; Omari Mrisho, David Adewoju, Luke Daley (Shane Maroodza, 60’), Charles Ondo; Dan Vost, Tom Iorpenda (Myles Bright, 60’); Hazeem Bakre, Michael Stone (c), Cian Philpott (Conor Falls, 60’); DJ Sturridge (Dylan Helliwell, 80’). Only 3 or 4 players who started against Forrest and Rotherham, started against Fleetwood. So not too hard to understand why we lost. In the last 6 B Team matches, they've won 2, Drawn 3 and lost just Once. Scored 13, conceeded 11. 9 points. That's not a bad set of results for the B Team

I actually went on Friday night and whilst I am sure there will be some disappointment around the result, this was a really young team! To add to that, the 2 most experienced players (Iorpenda and Daley) were only allowed 60 mins as they had been training with the 1st team that day and were on standby for 1st team bench. A bit like the 1st team, the B team has injury issues but not only that, given this was the day before the 1st team game, it rules out players who might have played otherwise but are currently occupying the 1st team bench as a result of the 1st team's injury problems(and often not even getting on) Strip the most experienced/ older players out of most teams and they are going to struggle!

I went to watch the game and was surprised at how poor and how the b team players just haven’t developed. The first touch by lots of the players was appalling. Miles Bright hasn’t developed in 3 years. Maroodza and Adewoju not improved. Daley and Iorpenda looked way off being ready for championship football. The Trialist DJ Sturridge was anonymous. Stone and Philpott looked miles off physically. I also notice that the u19 this season has many trialists so it seems the club are not investing anymore in this area of the club. Hazeem Bakre offered little but on previous viewings he has something. All in all expect all of the above barring Iorpenda, Bakre and Daley will be released as they aren’t ready for men’s football at a decent standard yet. In other words all the b team are nowhere near ready for football league football never mind playing in the championship!!

Brentford were sniffing around him, we offered him a 3 year deal and he's just stagnated unfortunately. I believe the club have an option on him for an additional year. I'd be very surprised if they take it up. Maroodza was playing, I think, his second game back after a 6 month injury, and is still only 19. Doesn't turn 20 until the end of this season. I think they'll be 50/50 on him at the moment. Adewoju turns 20 this month. He's a left footed Centre back, not many of them about, so I think they'll give him longer. Daley has had tones of injuries over the last couple of seasons or so. So easing his way back into things Iorpenda's only 18. So can't really be expecting him to be anywhere near Championship ready. The fact he was on the bench recently tells it's own story. Stone - Agreed. Philpott is under contract until the end of next season. On another note, the less said about today's game the better......And there's still 25 mins to go as I type this

Not sure of the relevance - as the first team squad is full of B Team & Academy players anyway and we know how that it is going. But the B team lost 0 -7 at home to Derby this afternoon following on from a 0-3 defeat I think to Fleetwood last week. Looking like a bit of a long road to recovery as the majority on here have alluded to. Might get one or two "bright sparks" coming through by the time we are in Division 2!!

I think I’m starting to understand why DM didn’t bother filling the bench …

Agreed , hopefully we steer clear of trouble and give the lad some games this season . No idea why we didn’t have no9 (whoever it was) on bench for Watford game personally . Looked a nuisance .

Must be Connor Falls, the one who made his N Ireland u21s debut this week. Someone above posted that he scored the winner against Newcastle and it also sounded like people were shouting Fallsy whenever he got the ball.

Have been very impressed - as have many of our other supporters - with Mustapha Olagunju in his games for us at Ebbsfleet. Very confident with the ball at his feet and has looked as solid as anyone could in our leaky defence and in a team sadly lacking confidence at present. He looks a real prospect for you guys. Certa wouldn't complain if you were to agree to extend the loan and make it for the rest of the season!
PS Still recall with fondness our visit to your ground back in November 2001 when we were known as Gravesend and Northfleet ,& you beat us 2-1 thanks to a MoM performance by on loan Leon knight.

Great to hear he's doing well. Mustapha looked very promising for us a few years ago, but had over a year out injured and is only just getting back to fitness. Not sure he'll make it at this level anymore with the amount of development time he lost, but it's great that he's still playing with confidence. Was originally signed as a number 10 but converted to a defender, always been very good on the ball.

I'm sure I remember that game. Didn't you have an older pro who just sat in the centre circle all match, spraying the ball about. He had the younger players doing the leg work, they were a good team.

Out of the Youth Cup. Lost 2-1 at home to Charlton. When you look at the side all the bench and a lot of the first 11 are trialists - www.htafc.com/news/2023/december/young-terriers-exit-fa-youth-cup/Not really sure of the point of the academy this year - It's not long ago we had a U17 and U19 team now we barely have enough full time scholars to make up a 5 aside team! Sad thing as well is we never seem to sign any of these trialists. I mean look at the B Team we had that Sturridge come in, score a few goals and we still didn't offer even a short term deal despite having no fit strikers and not enough players to name a full bench. Begs the question under what circumstance we would sign a trialist! Literally no idea what the point of the academy is this season. May as well loan out the two or three who have a chance of a career to semi pro side (have them training with the B Team the rest of the week) and not bother with the rest and save the costs on the coaches etc
