Not seen it mentioned anywhere else - Jake Charles has been called up (from the standby list) to the Wales u-19 squad for the first time, for the UEFA U19 Elite Round qualifying tournament in Portugal. They're playing Belgium (28 May), Portugal (30 May) and Greece (2 June). If we're lucky he might get on and it might be on Eurosport.

Could this be our most successful academy in history? To get to the F.A youth cup quarters, win the league & the playoffs is a massive achievement. We clearly have a talented group of players & it's a massive credit to Lillis & his coaching team for getting the academy to the level it's now at in such a short time!
Well done to everybody involved & also the U21's who won their league at a canter aswell!
Deano you are a legend!!!

You judge the success of an academy by looking at the players it produces, not by getting results. I'm not saying that it isn't nice to see our academy winning competitions but all that matters is whether it produces players good enough for the first team. We will see over the next few years whether the current lot are any good.

If we're winning by better tactics and effort, with no particularly weak links, it doesn't necessarily mean we have anyone who will come through. Hopefully, we're doing too well for that to be the case and at least a few in there (e.g. Holmes, Billing, Charles, Booty) are at least going to be adequate cover or ideally solid first teamers. I've seen diddly squat of most them, so I'm just waffling as I've got bored of working on a supposed day off

Anyone going to Brighouse tomorrow for the U18 game? Think they will have a difficult season losing so many good 2nd year scholars from last season that will now be playing in the development squad. Also the loss of Frankie Bunn is a big blow so last years success will be very hard to repeat.

Think they will do ok, plenty of that squad was made up of lads still eligible to play like Bradley Carroll, regan booty, jack Boyle, Danny Kane, rekiel Pyke plus others they may not win it like but it's still a decent side.

Apparently the U19 manager at Limerick, Declan Farmer, is originally from Huddersfield. He did his A-license course at the same time as Tony Carss was doing his. It's great to see Town using this to their benefit.

Way to piss on my bonfire mate! Found this article that says he was still in charge of them back in January, so I reckon he still had an influence on us getting these lads. limerick.today.ie/2014/01/31/declan-farmer-leaves-limerick-fc/

Regan Booty got the opener and Ronan Coughlan kept up his scoring sequence by getting a cracker in a hard fought win in Oldham.

Stalybridge 0-5 Town. Goals from Bunn, Stead, Bojaj, Carr and Ben Holmes.
Already posted on another thread, but just in case anyone missed it and were interested.
Went tonight, so here are my thoughts, for anyone remotely interested or suffering from insomnia.....
Allinson - some decentish saves, most were long range efforts, didn't look 100% confident IMO, but overall, did alright.
Boyle, Wilkinson & Wright - all 3 played well and for the best restricted them to long range efforts. Opposition seem to have more joy attacking the wing backs.
Adelson (trialist) - wasn't particularly impressed. Caught flatfooted a few times and balls up massively. 2 on 1 situation and instead of cutting it back to Bunn for certain goal, he took the shot and almost hit the corner flag. More impressed with the Polish lad. However, it is only one game, so will give player benefit of the doubt.
Carroll - he hasn't really progressed. Some decent overlaps, but he hasn't improved much going forward. Looks lost whenever he enters the final 3rd of the field. His corners were quite decent, but overall, wasn't impressed, same as at Radcliffe. Critical time ahead for him.
Sinnott - hit and miss. Played some decent passes and then would gift ball away needlessly.
Billing - judging by tonight's and his performance against Radcliffe, he isn't ready for the first team just yet. Went missing tonight and lost the ball quite a few times. Still a very good prospect, but maybe not as close to being ready as others would say.
D Holmes - not one of his best games by his standards, but still showed real quality. Always a threat and linked up well with strikers.
Bunn - might see this kid a bit more this season. Took his goal well, could've had a couple more, works hard, nippy player, constant running, good dribbler. Impressed.
Stead - my MOTM tbh. I was very critical of his performance on Friday night. Looked not only that he had past it, but he looked as if he wasn't even trying anymore. Tonight however, he battled hard, put himself about, took his goal very well, could've had 3/4 more if he was just a bit more clinical in front of goal. I know folk will argue that it's only Stalybridge, but he did well nonetheless.
Carr - below average. Called offside 5/6 times, gave away stupid freekicks, first touch was next to non existent and his penalty wasn't the best I've seen. Poor again. Same as with Carroll, a critical season ahead for him.
Tronstad - some good touches, good passes, but he's never stood out whenever I've seen him play.
Charles - sort of average when he first came on, but came into his element towards the end. Terrific play to set up Carr for simple tap in, beat 3/4 players before crossing. Tormented fullback, impressed once again. If I had to put money on any youngster breaking into the first team, it would be Jake Charles.
Bojaj - didn't really do too much, couple of chances, some good passes. lightning quick to score rebound from Carr's penalty.
Ben Holmes - scored and looked quite useful again. Keeps delivering the goods.
Atkinson - looks a much better prospect than his brother ever did. More well rounded player who also chips in with a few goals too. Looked impressive tonight.
And on the subject of Stalybridge, Dickinson was pretty anonymous, but certainly knows how to take a good freekick. Hit the crossbar from 30/35 yards out. Grown hair since he played for Town. Looks like a complete different person!
And Chippendale, looked full of energy, decent crosser, but lightweight and no composure whatsoever. Must've had 4/5 shots, maybe even more and never really threatened, except maybe when his cross almost went straight in, if it wasn't for a good save for Allinson.
Overall, it was a decent workout and Town played well. It did really tail off second half, but the youngsters from the bench did well and ensured a decent win.

In the Town u21s 2-0 win at Emley last night there was a trialist at vingback. Jordan Hendrie (son of John), a Bolton Wanderers product. Surely might be a useful player if he's close to as talented as his dad?
