Ayina captain for B team at Buxton. Hudlin on bench along with 3 trialists. Trialist in goal too. Surprising. Must mean Ayina isn't off to Austria. Unless iv got their travel day wrong.

No updates on Town Twitter. U18s lost 6 1 at Bolton, from Bolton academy Twitter. B team lost 3 0 at Buxton, from Buxton afc Twitter. Town had a defender sent off for a bad foul early in second half. No name on Buxton's coverage.

Don't refs usually give a bit of leeway in friendlies? Can't react like that. To react like that in a friendly is unacceptable. He got fouled, he didn't get a free-kick. He can't then lash out like that - in a friendly. It isn't even heat of battle, it's a training exercise. Ref right to send him off - it's not a mistimed challenge or like he's on a yellow and he's just put in a challenge too many. It's violent conduct, and entirely on his own head. No leeway for that. Now, flip it round and turn it into a league game this season against us. Bet the opponent would manage to stay on

Bet the opponent would manage to stay on I'd have to disagree about it being violent conduct, it was a trip, not a hack or leg breaker and I've seen far far worse in friendlies just get a talking to. Still a petulant dick for doing it, but I think we'll have to agree to disagree on whether he deserved sending off. And you're absolutely right; in a league game against us it probably wouldn't even be a booking, maybe even a free kick to the opponent

He went to kick the ball and their lad has dragged it out of the way. Since when was a kick on the lower leg a red card. What a tit their number 5 is. Charging in like a hard man against a bunch of kids. Aside from that, we looked terrible

So we still play the ludicrous passing out from the back at all age groups? Ludicrous as in desperate to keep hold of it even when passes aren't on.
It's cost the first team numerous goals over about 7 or 8 years but we don't get rid of it. It means less outside of the first team but I think the time to stop passed years ago.
It's as if we'd rather concede a goal than kick it long. It's ridiculous.

Take it you don’t watch much modern day football, every single team will try play out from the back it’s engrained in junior amateur football at grassroots nevermind academy’s.

No, everybody does it but there are times (been plenty of them) where we try to force passes in and around our own 18 yard box. Surely abandoning it for an individual pass is more sensible than only sticking to that one tactic at all costs? We don't have players at first team level who can do it properly but we're teaching players not as good (yet, potentially) to do it. I'd rather we coached some autonomy than going through the motions because other people do it.

Good test away at Marine this evening. Lost 2 0 in the end against a team that included an actor and a fictional soap star.

Interesting to read that Gabriano Shelton has joined under 18s, after 7 years in Liverpool academy, in order to accelerate his route to first team football.
Sensible lad. Could this have happened without the new focus/upgrading of our own academy ?

Could this have happened without the new focus/upgrading of our own academy ? Evans did similar going to Paderborn from Everton. It is not an easy option but a very pragmatic one. Hope it comes good for Shelton with us.

Could this have happened without the new focus/upgrading of our own academy ? Yes it could and did Iorpenda left Brighton to join us as a Scholar Francis Hurl, B Team Keeper joined from Palace Omari Mriso, B Team defender joined from Brighton Cian Philpot, B Team midfielder joined from Man City Daniel Vost, B Team midfielder joined from Everton Anthony Gregory, U18 Defender joined from Arsenal Oliver Calland, U18 Midfielder joined from Man City We also signed Temi Okuwa from Spurs, a couple of others from Man City and a couple from Man United.

You may be right Sparrow, but without researching I suspect that many of your examples were released by their clubs.
I have seen nothing to suggest that was the cause in Shelton’s case.
I doubt Liverpool would release a 16 year old scholar fancied as an under 17 international for South Africa.

As for Shelton, no idea. I had assumed he'd been released also, but the article posted on here seems to suggest he chose to come here
