That is without doubt the worst commentator I have ever heard. He makes Phil Neville sound both interesting and insightful. It's unlikely commentary is his primary profession, being an U21 game and all. Probably just a player's dad. Could probably say the same about their keeper

Nice to see that Sheff U. are teaching shirt pulling at an early age.

The fantastic work with the U18s and U21s continues and even Duane and Carr seems to be doing ok again. Its a real credit to the coaches but I do wonder if we need to look at the "pathways coaching" as clearly we have good young players playing well together but this hasnt flowed through to the first team in a meaningful way yet.

Lolley looked very good in those highlights. Any idea why he didn't make the bench?

Town 0 Barnsley 3 Under 21s / development Nil all at half time then Barnsley proved too strong in the challenge and on the ball. They very quickly got forward and caught our defence out for their three gaols. Lolley was the plus for us however just missed out on scoring. On the down side Duane Holmes played right sided wing back and found it difficult to pick out one of our players with passes. Madjeski (Subbed) played up front off Carrs and both looked like they would never score. Barnsley were pretty physical however their two wingers and centre forward were a cut above what we had on the field. Tronstad had a steady game but too many others were not good enough in the second half resorting to long balls hoofed forward.

I know this may not be a popular view but I really think we should look to get in bed with Man City, who this week opened a £200m academy complex - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30374283We have coaches with contacts/ history at Man City like Steve Eyre, Frankie Bunn and even Mark Lillis started there so we should use this to our advantage I'm not saying that we close the academy but Man City will only be after the absolute cream and every season they will release 16 and 18 year olds who will be good enough to play Championship football. Town should look to get connections so they get first dibs on these players and also loans for other prospects Bunn, Smith, Clayton are just three Man City old boys they released (there are many more in the Championship) and that was before the multi-million investment. I really think the club misses a trick here.

Would love to have seen us "in" for Helan (the Sheff Weds left back) or got Huws (young Welsh international) on loan rather than Brum last season or Rekik (young Dutch full international) who went to Blackburn on loan. Just think there is a good opportunity there due to geography and links between the youth teams Obviously we can produce our own but we can't rely on that, fact is Hunt is the last player to come through of quality and he's 24. So we need to find other channels to supplement the academy in the leaner periods Taking a punt on lower league or Irish league players hasn't paid off to date either (Carr and Carroll) but I'm not saying discard that policy either I just think there's a big opportunity for a lower league side to align with Man City, they have at least half a dozen England Youth internationals in their current Development Squad and most will be getting binned because the bar is so high there. We should be front of the queue when that happens, ideally hearing about who is being released before others. Then "sell" Town to them by using Bunn and Smith as examples of players who have been released by City but are doing well at Town

Like any footballer with good potential there will be a string of clubs closely monitoring there progress (including Town). We currently have a number of very promising lads in the academy, including internationals. One believe it or not from Man. City neighbours Man. U. Chance to see for yourself tonight. John Smiths Stadium seven 'O' Clock kick off.

You seem to be getting pretty precious - I'm not knocking the youth team all I am saying is that we should give ourselves the best chance of getting lads from one of the biggest clubs in the country when they are released. Man City along with Chelsea are now the dominant powers of Youth football - www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2717871/Chelsea-Manchester-City-starting-dominate-youth-football-Under-21-level-Under-11-massive-investment-academies-pays-off.html Some youngsters will be out of reach but others won't be, e.g. England youth international Alex Henshall was picked up on a free by Ipswich in July www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28059318 I don't see why we shouldn't stand a chance of signing such a player. I'll also hazard a bet this lad has a better chance of making it as a pro footballer than some of these non League punts we've paid decent fees on recently

City cast offs. Realistically we will not be 'first in the queue' think you'll find players agents will come into play. That is not to say we won't pick up the odd gem, ie youth manager, youth managers son, Smith.
