king didn't get convicted of a sexual offence.. an offence of assault... agreed that anyone convicted of a very serious offence shouldn't really be allowed back into professional football as they are supposed to be role models.. but that's blown out of the water everytime Rio opens his gob on race matters or diving, this from a bloke who clearly broke the rules by missing 3 drug tests.. not one or two but three? the papers then publish this bollox from Ferdinand as though he was the Bishop of Manchester!!!!!! if we get back to the idea that footballers are just overpaid, under worked lads who kick a bit of plastic about a couple of times a week and have no reason to be pillars of society then we can get away from this role model rubbish.. kids want to be them for the lifestyle and the money and so thirdly they can kick a bit of plastic about to make a very good living, they don't want to be rooney or Ferdinand for their intelligence or lead they make in society at any level... they are just footballers...king got annoyed because a female didn't "know who he was", that about sums him up...

In December 2008, again in the Soho area, King was arrested on suspicion of punching a 20 year-old female university student in the face, causing a broken nose and split lip for which she was treated in hospital. He was later convicted of sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sentenced to 18 months in prison and placed on the Sex Offender Register for seven years.[2] Wigan Athletic immediately initiated the cancellation of his contract.[19] King’s agent, Tony Finnigan, said he was confident that his client would find a club on his release, which was on 29 July 2010,[62] and accused the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) of failing to offer support. Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the PFA, said that the PFA did not represent players when they have broken the law and been convicted on non-footballing matters. It would support members with anger management or other issues if approached but no approach had been made by King.[16] After his release, he made an appeal against the conviction which was unsuccessful.[

Didn't realise Sheffield United was an overcrowded prison with a "one out, one in" policy?

You do not get put on the sex offenders register unless you've been convicted of sexual assault, punching a woman in the face does not constitute sexual assault.

who cares?? they are either "role models" or they are not..they cant have it both ways..(course they can they are footballers)..
watch rio talk about the "dangers of drugs", his nose if somewhat bigger by the end of the "advice"....
if they actually stopped these clowns giving talks or being part of programmes about serious subjects it might help a bit..

Wendies fans seem to have forgotten that Madine may well end up in prison.

Footballers as role models? That's shite, role models as atheletes maybe but as humans they are just the same as everyone else in the world, capable of indiscretions and flawed. A kids mum and dad should be role models.

Andy Booth is an excellent 'role model' for our young'uns Wonder what Marlon Kings three kids think of him as a 'role model'.

Heard on Radio Sheffield that United's female supporters are enraged and are after refunds on their season tickets and threatening to boycott, etc. It does sound a little extreme, but because of King's past, can you blame them?

Wendies fans seem to have forgotten that Madine may well end up in prison. Bit different though isn't it? getting into a few fights compared to the record marlon king has, that said most of the Wednesday fans want Madine out the way he's behaved. I guess the Prince found his King.

They were a penalty kick away from the Championship and now look at them in the relegation places in League 1. Desperate signing IMO. Can't wait for the Sheffield derby next season in the third division, it'll be massive!

If this out and out scumbag had done what he has done to some females to either your Girlfriend, Wife, Daughter or Sister, you would never settle until King had been removed of his balls (using a rusty, blunt instrument).
He is a serial offender that clearly has a problem with Women.

Marlon King . Has 14 convictions against him . Yep he is no role model for anyone . Glad our club would never have him here .

Another caller on Radio Sheffield: "I'd rather go down than have Marlon King play for us." Also more Blades fans saying they're going to go to Saturday's game just to boo him, others saying they aren't going at all.
Good lord, he might score a few, but there's so much negativity around their club anyway with their poor start, this signing has made it much worse. They might be desperate for a goals & confidence, but this is a poor move.

I'm not judging hammill , I just think we pick and choose when to vent our outrage.,. Starting on a paramedic doing their job on a Saturday night was a pretty grubby act and I'm pretty sure if a marlon king type character came to town and banged in loads of goals 80% plus of fans would soon forget the misdemeanours,,, not saying that's right just that I think it would happen

Key difference. What Adam Hammill did with that paramedic was disgusting but it was a one-off act of stupidity. His conduct since then has, by all accounts, been exemplary. He's been given a 2nd chance & he appears to be taking it with both hands (on and off the pitch).
With Marlon King, it's difficult to pick out one incident but if you do, you can't say that any of them were out of character.
I share the view of that Sheffield Utd fan who would rather see his team relegated than have them sign Marlon King. If James Vaughan* turned out to be a Marlon King type, I'd hope we showed him the door
(* Note - I'm not suggesting for one moment that James Vaughan's character is anything other than superb - I just used him as an example because I think of him as one of the best players to play for us in recent years. What he does on the pitch wouldn't come close to making up for what Marlon King does off it.)

What if your wife was a female paramedic risking her, life in Liverpool city centre every weekend ? It just seems convenient that we view differing crimes in order to suit our argument.. Is it whether the crime is violence or sexual violence ? Whether its once , twice or repeated ? Whether its against a man or a woman ? What is the criteria for our outrage? My feeling is that a large part of the criteria tends to be whether the player is any good and who he plays for... If vaughany had been a bit of a scumbag in his youth I suspect his whole hearted approach, scoring prowess and extravagant corner flag celebration would overcome that hurdle for most fans if he was playing for htfc
