Plus we would still struggle to get people turning up for midweek night games, they would also be much lower crowds.

I'm pretty sure Wigan averaged 5,000 ish when they were in league one with us.
I'd compare our support with a club like Burnley. Wigans crowds are solely down to being in the premiership in recent times.
You need to remember in modern day times town have had no success what so ever where as the Lancashire towns have yet on paper our supports are similar.
After a long period out the top division I'd be very interested in what Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan etc would get in league one or two.

Reading through this and noticed Bradford fans still defending there attendances. As I mentioned on a previous thread our attendances were far higher between 2004 and 2007 when we were both in the same division charging the going rate for season tickets. Bradfords were 8839, 8265 and 8694. Towns for the same period were 11910, 13058 and 10569.

I believe Saturdays crowd being just below 17000 was mainly because we are mid table there is not much excitement win or lose , people need the thrill of a need for 3 points, and because of that the crowd was average. Although one thing I have noticed is the lower tier near the away end gets emptier and emptier, have they arrested everyone, banned loads because over the years it seems to be getting less passionate supporters and less people in this section . Football needs passion fill a stadium with children and families and not a wider range of people you get what's happening to huddersfield, at times a library, and this is happening all over the country, the football clubs are starting to reap getting rid of what makes football brilliant. By the way I'm not talking about fighting I'm talking about shouting, singing, standing and the odd swear word (big deal ), this country as gone all big brother . Some people liked going to football because it was a release from everyday life, that release is becoming less and less, because of this football stadiums are becoming soul less. People want standing back because they remember the passion of the olden days .

Such a big issue isn't it, even Man Utd have recognised the lack of atmosphere at old toilet that they are experimenting with singing sections etc, 80k seater stadium FFS! I think attendances play a part, but there's a long list of things IMO. Price - the working man is being priced out as is the younger man too. I previously posted about the average age of ST holders in 1974 was 24, now it's 42. Stewarding - in this H+S mad country we live in, it's becoming an ever increasing war between fans wanting to be 'passionate' and stewards sticking to there protocol. Safe standing - my best days are away days when virtually all away fans are stood up and singing, when I'm sat down I feel disconnected from the atmosphere and don't sing. TV - giving fans a reason not to go, it's easy to watch football on tv instead. I'm sure there is more, but if we want to improve then the crystal palace model is one to admire. IMO of course.

If Town ever get to the Premier League we will pretty much mirror Wigan for crowds & away following. Which means you'll see a full house only for the top games ie. Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City etc...& we definitely woul;d not sell out for Sky games & the rest for fixtures like Southampton, Palace etc you would see 15000 crowds just like Wigan got. The mid - table games but big followings like Stoke, Villa, Everton etc would attract 18-19000 dependent on how well we were doing & only because there would always be pretty much a full 4000 in the away end. Face facts folks this in reality is the size of our club & although many of us may have joined the band wagon where people took the p!ss out of Wigan when they saw empty seats on match of the day for the majority of their games, it would be the same at Town..as we have a very similar following. New fans would definitely not turn up on a regular basis to watch Town in the premier league paying higher prices, it would be just pick & choose the odd big game. I don't know why many folk think we would suddenly get thousands more people turning up, it just would not happen. Youre wrong and this is why- WE have around 18,500 season ticket seats available to sell and in the prem we'd sell them all, with a lot of people disappointed. To be able to see the Chelsea, man utd etc games you'd need a ST. You won't be able to just pick and choose the big games. Thats just over HALF the people who went to OT being able to get one!! Wouldn't matter if it was Palace on a monday night live on Sky- all 18500 STs would be sold for the game. Then add on away following and corporate (which would increase ) then I can't see that we'd sell fewer then 20,000 for any game, even if the away following is dire.

Maybe for one season it might just about happen but there is so much apathy/tight fistedness in this area that I couldn't see it happen for more than that. The Huddersfield public will not spend their money on football now, why do you think with all the tv coverage as well that they, the ones that pop up every play-off final, will pay up to watch every week? No chance.

No I think they will. Well enough of them to sell 18500 STs anyway. I can think of loads of lads I know who might take in the odd big game like OT or Barnsley etc but wouldn't dream of going to a bog standard game in the FL. But they'd want one in the prem. Thats so long as Town don't charge silly money of course, which I genuinely don;t think they would and with the daft amounts of TV money the club would get, don't have to. In the prem gate receipts aren't that big a deal for a club with our sized stadium.
