Can someone compare and contrast him with Robins. I can't honestly see much that Powell brings to the table that Robins didn't to be honest. I'm happy to be educated - but I always though Charlton were a miserable, dismal team, apart when Curbishly had big numbers getting in to the box earlier this century.

Personally I am hoping for an announcement in the next 24 hours so everyone who is going to complain its not the right person can get it out of their system before the weekend. No matter who it is, its obvious from those mentioned to be in the running, that it's going to be impossible to make everyone happy. Lets just get it over with.

Powell's teams were already a basterd to beat away from home. He has the team to work with here. Will be a great appointment. Totally agree & the people who say he nearly got Charlton relegated need to look at all the facts.. New owners who wanted their own man, fixture pile up due to that neglected pitch & a good FA cup run. If he'd won half the games in hand they would have been outside the bottom 3.. It's convenient they fail to mention that he led them to an 8th place finish the year before & the excellent title win the year before that.. 101 points was it?

Yes, thats why he got sacked near the end of the season when they were bottom...because they were hard to beat. I'm not getting the love for him either. He was bottom of the league for a reason - don't buy the injuries and games in hand waffle. That's twice in the last week I've agreed with you. It's not a good feeling.

Well i am going to be positive for a change, If it is CP then i would like to welcome him to Town and wish him well, I hope that he starts well and gets all the fans on side, TBF i am going to take on board what Deano said on the wireless and get behind who ever it is, I also hope that the club support him if he needs it and that this time stability more than anything for me is the key and we give him time.

Only until you eventually start losing and then it brings freefall...... Building success on a plan of good entertaining football, young players and sustainability will bring the best most long lasting rewards.

Chris Powell lifted Charlton off the floor & had to clear the deadwood that just avoided relegation the season before, in 2 and a half seasons he got them on the brink of a shot at the premier league.. He did a great job imo.

Increasingly managers get sacked after their first bad run of form. To last three years before that happens and to leave the club a division higher is no bad thing in my book. Especially given his working conditions towards the end. Mid table league one when he took over. Along the way the Charlton fans had a league winning season followed by 9th place in the division above - missing the playoffs by 4 points. It's not a bad ride they had. For me, he definitely deserves a little more respect than he's getting on here.

When Powell was given transfer funds to build his own team he did a better job than Clark did and had a more balanced squad that comfortably pissed L1 whilst Clark's celebrated "unbeatables" were struggling against 10 men Stevenage at home. From memory I don't think Charlton strengthened as much as we did after promotion. Maybe he did seem to run out of ideas towards the end of his Charlton tenure, but he was quite likely under a lot of pressure (chairman telling him who to play, relegation battle etc). If he is appointed I really hope people like Bertie give up the embarrassing post-war golly type humour, speak like that needs running off the board.

The season Charlton got promoted from L1 with over a hundred points, did he sell something like 22 players and bring 23 in? Was a brilliant piece of management I really don't get why people are doubting him already. He had to deal with a lot of shit at Charlton regarding ownership, owners selling his best players, a shocking playing surface etc If he gets the job, let's give him a bloody chance.

Got Charlton up above us, Sheffield we'd, Sheffield utd on a worse budget than us 3 and by a distance as well. Then first year in champ didn't they finish about 3 pts of the play offs? Only went to pot last year when the new owners took over and clearly were having a big influence on who they signed as they suddenly starting signing a lot of Belgians, hmm me thinks this wasn't Powell doing.
Don't understand why people would be underwhelmed by Powell, I think he's a good manager, always had Charlton resolute and organised and difficult to beat. I'd be more than happy for him to get it

Still think it's Mowbray . I would love a surprise candidate that no-one has mentioned, as long as it was someone to get the fans excited. No offense, but I hope you are wrong!

People on this forum seem to confuse having an honest opinion with support.
You can do both you know.
