What they had a committee meeting with all three potential managers having their say? I find it impossible to believe that any of the new manager candidates were asked about Butterfield. He signed a couple of days after MR walked and those negotiations had been going on for at least a week before then. That is even more ridiculous than signing players without a manager. Imagine when that question got dropped on them in the interview

it was pretty bleeding obvious from the BT sport clip that he had been offered the job Not sure it showed he was offered the job. Only he was in the running. Come on. He was blushing and cooing. And the posh guy was patting him on the back. That and the 1-10 made me think he was definitely in pole .. Not that he had another interview cos that was apparent earlier

Another left back!?
Fairly neutral if it is him, can't get excited about it but nor did I expect to do so given our last couple of appointments. Could be worse

With respect, getting Charlton out of league 1 is nowhere near the task of getting Town to the Prem. I dont read too much into one successful season in Div 1. I want a manager with international contacts, a man who has done it at a higher level, not some guy who got the Charlton job because he was a club legend and had been PFA Chairman. I have a bad feeling about it. 100% with you - thats three times in a week, now I really am worried. If it's Powell we'll be after a new manager inside 18 months.

If it's Powell I think the vast majority will accept it, but be uninspired by it. It's hardly an appointment to get excited by, is it??!
For DH I will get behind him and pass my judgement at Xmas when the season is well underway......

Sadly Jimmy, in today's football, no matter who gets picked, every team seems to be looking for a new manager in 18 months.

Quite clearly town are in no position to think about premiership football. If that's the criteria for town manager then I'm surprised anyone applied for the job.

I expect to be in the bottom half of the table, no matter who is in charge. The premiership is a long long way of for Town.

If he applied for the job - and I presume we didnt go chasing him and he did apply - then didnt he know when he applied there might be a move involved?
Or is geography not a strong point?

Anyway. Let's have a list of things that the new manager will say in his first interview. The fans forum 'DATM' swung it for me. How refreshing to read such positive posts from a knowledgeable, and polite group of people.

Think thats about spot on. can't say id be particularly excited or disappointed and suspect most town fans would feel the same. Not an appointment to get emotional about either way really. Whoever gets the job must have said enough to convince DH and NC that they're the right man, so Im happy to go along with their judgement. The 3 managers they've appointed so far have all taken the club forwards to some degree or other, so IMO DH and NC deserve to have their judgement trusted.

Lennon was my choice then Hughton. But I'd take this guy all say long over Mowbray, Davies, Coyle and the rest of them. Happy with this

"Its a fantastic challenge...a good set of lads...people in the game told me it was a good club...its a long-term project...the Chairman sold it to me...always enjoyed my visits here...blah..blah".
I would prefer it a la Liar, Liar.." i needed a job, its close to Manchester airport so i can get back to the smoke quickly, beer is half the price, got myself a 4 year deal so even if it goes tits up i am made for life".
Ever the cynic!

I'd expect Powell to say something like the last few dull, uninspiring, cheap managerial appointments have.
If he is given the job, no doubt we'll be looking for another bland, proven to have failed at this level, incumbent within another 18 months... Yawn....
Surely it would work out cheaper in the long run to pay an exciting manager who would excite the fans rather than buying cheap and having to pay off the usual failures and dullards every year or so?
