I'd be happy with this, will make a change to have a defender in charge too, who will hopefully organise us far more solidly as a defensive unit. We shouldn't have to require to score 3 and 4 to win a game, hopefully a combination of Powell and Hudson will go someway to rectify this. Most of the spoilt brat brigade won't be happy though, so I just hope for his sake that he gets off to a good start, or it's going to be even more painful than ever on here, if that is indeed possible! Jacko was a defender, must be last defender in charge of us back in 06 Grayson was a defender

"Its a fantastic challenge...a good set of lads...people in the game told me it was a good club...its a long-term project...the Chairman sold it to me...always enjoyed my visits here...blah..blah". I would prefer it a la Liar, Liar.." i needed a job, its close to Manchester airport so i can get back to the smoke quickly, beer is half the price, got myself a 4 year deal so even if it goes tits up i am made for life". Ever the cynic! Alot of the comments made by managers players when they move are not even there words they are put out by the pr people and so must be taken with a pinch of salt.So whoever it is today if it happens will no doubt have been well scripted but will be no different to what you here everywhere else.

this might come in useful then.... First the video of the Charlton fans talking about CP's sacking - They were playing us next. Now this; stating they did it for the Middlesborough game (we've got Middlesborough next)... It's all too sureal...... (Or am I just a w**ker)?

Charlton fan here. I've just read most of the thread and I want to assure you that if it is Powell, you have got yourself an absolute gem. The point about finishing ninth with the second lowest budget is the key one. The players loved him at Charlton and he created a fantastic togetherness. The fact that the vast majority of Charlton fans were gutted when he left tells you everything. Yes, we were bottom of the league, but we had five games in hand and more importantly, he was being completely undermined by the owner in terms of the resources he had available. Regarding him being a Londoner, well, yes, he is. He played for and coached at Derby though and they loved him there, and as far as I'm concerned, Derby is up north. Anyway, good luck to you and him. Huddersfield are my second team now.

I would be very happy with Powell. Perhaps he wants to join us as he knows he will get regular trips back to Charlton. How many times did we play them last year?

I'd take Powell. Seems a decent guy and I hope he can organise our defence.
He is also the sort of manager who can grow with us. Some of the others mentioned would be off in a shot given half a seasons success
Either way I will back whoever DH appoints

What they had a committee meeting with all three potential managers having their say? I find it impossible to believe that any of the new manager candidates were asked about Butterfield. He signed a couple of days after MR walked and those negotiations had been going on for at least a week before then. I apologize i seem to have got my Butterfields mixed up with my Robinsons... My Orange tastes bloody terrible this morning.

I'd be happy with Powell. A few shrewd loan signings in the forthcoming weeks and we can be a team pushing top half upwards this season.

I certainly am ok with it being Chris Powell especially as some of the "in the know" people on here will have to find a way of explaining their BS away!
It will be good having a manager in a suit again, dont like this whole tracksuit thing, the great Herbert Chapman wouldnt have worn it so until we have a manager who exceeds his success that should be the way to go!!!

You are correct - as I posted on a different thread an hour ago. I live in the South West Midlands so don' t hear much Town gossip but a friend of Chris Powell in the game who is linked to West Brom told me this morning - he was surprised I didn't know already .

It was mentioned on here (don't know how official it was) that the new manager had a say in the signing of Mark Hudson and CP would know Hudson from Charlton days so it all seems to add up. I'm still not clear what happens about backroom staff. Were the candidates told that they would have to work with the guys already here? (Thompson, Eyre)or might we see new coaching staff come in too? I'm guessing Powell toward the end at Charlton will probably have had to work with people brought in by the new owners so its maybe not that unusual a situation for him.
