So is Lillis the manager then or what? It appears so since the line from the Club last season was Robins had the say on player recruitment and we've signed two players since his departure.
Not a clue if he's any better then Dixon, my knowledge of football as a game is poor. The bigger news to me is one of three options... We are signing players without a manager which is odd. Player recruitment wasn't as much a part of Robins role as we were told. Or we've got Lillis to take the job, by the sound of things (or lack of) this is going to be for the foreseeable future. I hope it's the third option personally.

Sounds like lilis had a big say in this signing . Very much sounds like it's going to be lilis . More likey that Thompson had a big say. Coached him for a season

Everyone loves dixon now he's had a few decent games.. He's a decent player who can often look great but he regularly costs us goals. Hunt used to get slaughtered and was no worse a defender than dixon IMO. He's had some absolute nightmare runs of form while he's been here and i'm glad we've brought in some competition. Not seen much of robinson at championship level but always looked pretty good when i've seen him for england.

Because we're paying his wages? Sorry, he's a Town player and I thought this thread would be a good place to discuss him, I must've been wrong. Fine to discuss him . What I'm saying is " is he anywhere near good enough for the first team ? " . I would hazard a guess that on all known evidence the answer is no.. As a supporter of a club in the bottom third of the league are you advocating turning down the chance to sign an England u21 international because you would prefer to give Carroll a chance ? I just don't get your reasoning . Why don't we just promote all the youths to give em " pathways" and get relegated ? Not at all. I never said that I would advocate turning down the chance to sign England U21 international Jack Robinson because I would prefer to give Carroll a chance, and I don't want to be vilified for something I haven't said and certainly didn't mean to allude to. All I meant to suggest was whether anyone really believes in "pathways" and trusting young DS players to fill in for first teamers when needed, but I specifically mentioned Jake Carroll in this instance because we're signing a new left back and his chances are now reduced to practically nothing. I wasn't trying to make a strong point, it was just supposed to be a simple discussion starter.

If these recent signings don't pan out as hoped & expected who's cock is on the block? Well if it goes tits up the next manager will get a fat pay off. So he will be fine The fans won't have to pay extra for their tickets, so can't really grumble if the club are making a genuine effort to move things forward ... which IMO they are So the person most affected will be Dean Hoyle ... who would lose £100,000's personally if this all goes wrong

Pretty happy with this I like Dixon and feel he's a good player but you can't hide from the fact that the defence never looks like keeping a clean sheet (even with Coady earning rave reviews anchoring in midfield with either Hogg or Peltier) We still need a centre back but we've conceded 14 in six games (including three against a league one side) and no defender on our books should feel safe after that record! If Robinson helps tighten up the defence then that's got to be a good thing You've certainly got a point there. The last clean sheet was a staggering 17 games ago at Charlton, so I'm not sure how defensive signings can be any other than a good thing.

From what I've read in match coverage on twitter it sounds like Dixon is a weak link defensively. Far too many "Dixon is beat down the left but 'X' comes across to intercept"

Personally I wouldn't call him youth. He always seemed a slightly odd signing due to his age. If he was 18/19 with lots to learn I'd agree, but at 23 you can generally tell the level a player is going to reach. The pathways will very much apply to the lads in the academy, but Carroll isn't one of them.

He might not have much of a budget left to play with & these new players might not be what he wants/needs. Strange carry on & I am surprised that so many folk are so comfortable with how things are playing out.

And to add to this Carroll's path Is blocked by a non long term option as qpr have paid 1mil for him so he won't be sticking around beyond this season. Doesn't fit the philosophy for me but as has been said if he helps shore up the defence then short term it will prove a good signing. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

To be honest £1 million to QPR is about as noticeable to their bank sheets as what Carroll will have made to Town's, no reason this couldn't be with a view to a permanent move.

Strange carry on & I am surprised that so many folk are so comfortable with how things are playing out. Most of the signings have been pretty logical though. Clayton had to be sold, so we got a like for like in the deal... Norwood was the same, so we signed a long term target coady. neither make much difference to the new manager. If the club were going out paying 1m on a player the manager might not want I would be concerned.. but when its a few 100k for long term targets or a loan deal it's hardly that much of a risk is it? Bit of a gamble but not as much of a gamble as if we had not done owt. Plenty of budget left I would imagine. If we'd done nowt and waited for a new manager we'd have been in worse shape and people would be blaming the board for pissing about. Non of this situation is ideal but non of it was planned.

Jack is a good addition to the squad but I do agree that we need an additional centre back even when Gerrard is back from injury. Gerrard Lynch Wallace Smith Really? Exactly. All this 'desperately need a new centre back OR 2' is a total crock. Its not a priority. So typical of DATM lately this thread. We sign an england U21 and the usual characters decide thats something to moan about. FFS you couldn't make it up!

You need two players for each position, especially in defence. We have two RBs and now two LBs but only have Lynch, Gerrard and Wallace. Ones injured, ones still learning his trade and very inconsistent and the other is injured. At the minute we don't have anyone to step up from the academy/u21s too and if anyone says Matt Crooks then they're off there rocker. We've been lacking a good quality CB ever since Sean Morrison's loan spell expired. If we do bring one in then I full expect us to do better at the back than this seasons showing so far

Liverpool fan here. Thought I may as well sign up as I checked the boards to see how Coady was doing, and you've just got Robinson (I know, neither of them are Liverpool players anymore, sad bastard!) I'm probably a bit biased as I always had a little bit invested in seeing Robbo becoming a success (I honestly thought watching him come up he'd be a Liverpool player for a long time) but I do think he's a talented player.
It's funny how these things work out. Obviously Rodgers didn't particularly rate him, but I think if we'd have kept him last season instead of Jon Flanagan (who nobody wanted on loan), he might have nailed down his future here. He's quick, can defend and has good distribution. Solid fundamentals. Always viewed him as someone who'll have a long career in the Premier League, especially when you look at some of the other left-backs in the league. Does need to make this loan a success though, hopefully he feels he's got something to prove.
He started off really well at Blackpool, but I think his form disintegrated along with their season, they're a bit of a mess right? He did get sent off 3 times for them, but once was for being involved in a mass brawl (was harsh to be singled out), once was two soft yellows, and the last time someone was through on goal and he was the last man. Despite that, he always came back into the team as soon as he was available, which I think does speak a bit about his quality considering he's only 20.
Good luck.

Can't believe folks saying we don't need central defenders when we've been conceding goals for fun in recent times. Gerrard will make a slight difference maybe, but our defensive record with him in the team was hardly that great anyway.

we got a chance to get coady for peanuts and robinson on wages.. that's why we signed them..when we get the opportunity to sign a centre back and a striker who we would like, on the deal we would like im sure we will.. clearly that hasn't happened as yet..
would have been nice to get everyone in at the same time, nice and neatly but this is footie and virtually everyone is looking for the right one at the right price..

Gerrard will make a slight difference maybe, but our defensive record with him in the team was hardly that great anyway. Folks are saying it, because centre back isn't the only area we concede goals from..........Dixon is ok overall but his one on one defending is very poor. We have brought a rapid lad in from a higher league to give us something extra ----- only time will tell if it works, but for the season is miles better than just 1 or 3m loan period. It gives the lad the chance to really make the position his own and develop here. Going back to centre backs.....if they were freely available I am sure we'd have got one or maybe more. Folks go on about keane at man utd.......maybe good maybe not, but just been poor at mk dons so no guarantees here. Reading let Sean Morrison go because he wasn't pulling up trees as well....he may well do at Cardiff in a better team, but it's not easy getting lads in who will just excel from day 1! As for Gerrard - will make a big difference because aerially he is massively better than the others....not faultless, but this is an area we have been poor in (set pieces/long punts with flick ons) for a while now and when he plays we are better for it IMO.

For me Dixons been a huge disappointment. He's slow, struggles to find his men with simples passes, the second he moves out of position it's exploited. Lynch covers for him a lot. I'd say the opposition generally look to exploit his weakness. This lads going to walk into the team in my opinion. judging by his performances for blackpool he'd do well to walk into the dog and duck team dixon shouldn't be unduly worried imo Sent from my GT-I9305 using proboards So an England u21 player would do well to walk into the dog and duck team? Theres a hope for all the young lads in the local leagues then. Don't talk so daft lad
