disappointed to see him go ( if this is true) but the realities of the situation are that our strategy is to buy players then sell them on for large profit. This is the only way we can financially make up for the crap support this town and area gives its championship football club. 2 facts to consider- 1-Its a strategy that has worked well so far. 2- Its the only strategy we have. Crap support to match the crap football team that have struggled for 3 years now with no change of fortunes on the horizon. I might be clueless or you might be clueless, because opinions are subjective - however them gate receipts are not, they are objective. And I'd say they seem to correlate to what a lot of fans are feeling about the club. People still don't seem to realise that football is about enjoyment, not what league you're in. Tell me that with our 0 wins from 5 and 3 goals scored we are enjoyable and value for the £25+ That the walk-ups pay (who have dropped off) and i'll find you a welder who could borrow your rose-tinted specs to do his work with. You can't have it both ways. Your highlighting the lack of wins on one hand, so suggesting results are whats important. Then you're calling our football crap for the past 3 years, when its actually had us in some of our highest finishing positions in the past 43 years! So suddenly results aren't important- its the football that matters?? There seems to be a desire to paint the quality of football and entertainment at games as badly as possible. Don't really get it myself. Its NOWHERE near as poor as people make out and is usually pretty good and enjoyable. Thats not rose tinted specs IMO. its just not wearing the manure tinted specs a lot seem to prefer! And i must have missed these halcyon days where every Town game was this festival of skill and attacking flair that this current side just can't match. When exactly was that? Anyway thats all besides the point. The area isn't interested in having a championship team. Doesn't matter whether we're struggling near the bottom with 0 wins out of 5, or if we've started like a train and are up at the top. So to make up for that we HAVE to deal in players. Make big pots of money on them- use some of it to offset some of the losses and reinvest the rest to hopefully buy some more players we can sell on for big profit a year or 2 later. I don't see any alternative unless someone is going to generously start pumping their millions into the club in even bigger amounts than dean Hoyle does , undeterred by the knowledge that even if it puts us up near the top, the people of this area will still not turn up.

Looks like this is happening now, again it's not bad business financially but finding a replacement in such a short space of time is going to be extremely difficult. I think if Butterfield does go we will do very well to survive. Shame I will be very surprised if the club do not have a replacement in mind as it has been reported that the Butterfield transfer has gone ahead. I think today could be the most interesting transfer deadline day for a long time, and wish Butterfield all the best at his new club.

And if you do need a bit more then maybe it's the Yorkshire in the people round here that makes them a bit more shrewd than others and less tolerant. I would say that the Captain Slappers of this world who enjoy the dour struggles in this division are very much in the minority and people genuinely want to be entertained for their money. Maybe you have a lot more disposable income than most and therefore don't sit there at the final whistle and wonder why the hell you bother spending upwards of 30 quid to see such predictable fayre week in week out.
I fall into the I'm just getting bored with the whole thing category and will probably stop going to every home game as a matter of ritual before too long. And that's with 45 years of support behind me.

Because they don't want to. No matter how many times Hoyle (or Powell for that matter) says something, there will always be those with their 'let's rip into the club at every opportunity' agenda, who try & change it into something completely different. I wish I had spent the last 100 quid on dancing lessons for my daughter instead of on the club because quite frankly comments like yours are doing my fucking head in. I don't crush the club at every opportunity I actually spend what I can on them but this season it's selling our best players, negative football and no fucking wins. Keep talking about supporters as though they are rats but some of us fuckers actually skint ourselves to follow them and right now I feel betrayed. Why, what's happened to make you feel betrayed?

We are going to league 1 selling our best players not replacing with quality. Ok, that's short... and where's the point? We haven't signed replacements yet as he hasn't even handed over his Town towel back to the kitman, he's still packing away the photo of himself and Terry the Terrier into his HTAFC bum-bag - and packing away his Town Gnome and Onesie! Once his tears have melted away, as he crosses the 'Scott Sellers' bridge - and into his Top of the Range motor, he will compose himself when his agent texts him and says 'Ok, Jacob. Now you've made it to the car, you can stop all that shit. Coz you is doubling your salary....yee, fucking haaaa! Adios losers!!' We've already got Huws and Carayol - who are good by all accounts (Huws definitely is - not seen Carayol). Bound to be activity tomorrow...Paterson is an excellent player, almost had him last time. Anyone else, with Huws already In is a bonus. Part of the enjoyment of watching footy is the new players coming in! Just like Butts and all before him. Short memories people, short memories... I saw what you did there ....

Players come and go but the club stays and that's what we need t get behind. Yes it's shit when good players leave but it gives an opportunity for new hero's t come t the fore. Let's get behind the club it's gonna b an exciting day I think. The other point is the way I think Powell wants t play I think Butts going will help that as he wants more pace going forward as it looks like he wants to hit teams more on the break weather this is the right way who knows only time will tell. If it all goes wrong then yes we will all b hurting but so will deano he is a fan first and foremost so he may b taking calculated risks but I don't for one minute think he would put us at un necessary risk. Heres hoping for a good day.

I'm wondering whether it played out like this.
Derby make Town offer for Butterfield.
Town refuse offer, but start working on sourcing replacement.
Town locate replacement, line up transfer should Derby make another offer.
Town are particularly happy with replacement player, as he is both cheaper to buy and asks for lower wages than Butterfield*.
Derby make similar bid. Town, knowing they have replacement lined up, are more receptive.
*This is not a slight on Butterfield, simply a suggestion that the replacement is currently earning less than him wherever he plies his trade.

To be fair some would say it is irresponsible of you to "skint yourself" to watch football when you could, and some would say should, be spending that outlay on your family. However, I'd hope you could get a lot of dance lessons for £100. Also, as a Town fan, you should know by now that we will always continue to sell our best players. It's what has happened for decades, and it will continue to happen. It's our business model. It's what we do. We have to do that so that there's still a club for men, and women, with families to skint themselves watching.

The catchment area of kirklees is pretty big actually. 300,000+ The real difference now is we have a chairman chucking millions at it. We buy players for hundreds of thousands and sell for millions, rather than 50k here or there. Expectation levels are very high. As for Butterfield- Can anyone else see the irony? I like him and think hes a decent player but this boards been full of people whinging and moaning about a lack of creativity in the team, especially down the middle of the pitch. Yet the player we have who is charged with giving us creativity , especially down the middle, is apparently brilliant and indispensable and we should be turning down bids that are 15 times more than we payed for him a year ago even though he hasn't actually improved noticeably as a player in that time. Yes its other players fault as well but what exactly has butterfield done to make him this Xavi-Iniesta hybrid? Is he picking teams appart with his killer passes? Derby will be taking a huge gamble on him. With 25000 fans they can probably afford to, but with 11000 fans Town can't.

I certainly don't expect him to chuck any more at it than he's prepared to but if it was me I would be asking myself why I'm bothering - not because of the (in your words) crap support this club gets but because there really is no point. You say the catchment area is pretty big (300,000+) but half of that is also in the catchment area of Leeds, the 2 Sheffield clubs and even Barnsley. Kirklees as an area has no identity whatsoever and the people of Batley, Dewsbury, Skelmanthorpe, Denby Dale and beyond are just as likely to go and watch Leeds or the 2 Sheffield Clubs. And of course as you well know we are only an hour or so away from a lot of big Premiership clubs where the cost of a match day ticket is probably not that much more than it is here.

I will find something more rewarding to do on a Saturday afternoon. Simply because it bores me at the moment. I know that will make me a crap supporter at a time when i'm arguing with the Captain that Town don't get crap support but with 45 years 'service' in i think i've done more than my fair share!

I too was disappointed with our approach to that game but the reason why we lost has much more to do with man-for-man better players, all on multiple times the salaries - that's not an excuse, it's a reality. And as a club we do compete, despite this reality, which has to be a credit to the way the club is run. I'm no happy clapper, not a big fan of CP by any means, but I do accept reality.

I have never had a problem with selling players if the deal is right. Don't people realise every time we buy a player someone is also selling? Butts is our best player, better than Clayton..but he is not Prem and has his price. £3.5 million is a third of a years turnover.
