The debate about attendances and prices needs to be had. The problem with this thread is some of the ridiculous garbage the OP posted. The prices are too high, the attendances are falling. Something needs sorting ASAP. £300 a season ticket, £20 every league match, for people paying on the day, saving £160 on buying a season ticket over the 23 games, an extra 3000 on the average league attendance??? This idea. Id go even further £20 wherever you sit/stand. No dicking about with catergory this category that. Unreserved seating everywhere. Exceptions top tier riverside stand where it would be more expensive with reserved seating.

On point 1. If that is the case then football clubs need to make it more affordable. I started work at 16 and it cost me nearly all my monthly wage to go to town games. Make it affordable, what ever it takes make it so because the next generation of football fans will be lost. On point 2. If I was in Deans shoes, I'd invite 50 town fans from all age groups to Canalside and ask them what they think and what prices would be fair. Just going back to the student thing. We have approx 30,000 people attending Huddersfield Uni and very few of them would be able to afford a season ticket, however I daresay that a fair few of them might attend if there was a discounted matchday price on production of a student card (if advertised/marketed properly). Some of these could become future season ticket holders, but I don't see the club actively tapping into what could be a sizeable potential. I haven't been that critical during the Hoyle era. I've shrugged my shoulders at players been sold because I trust the club to replace as and when. The pricing this season is wrong. The forest game was a great price as is MK Dons but I'm very interested to know what the club do next because it's getting critical now. Far far far too many empty seats. Those empty seats don't buy tickets, pies, pints, programs or create any atmosphere. Find a balance and get punters through the turnstiles.

A problem is we're competing against teams in areas that £30 isn't steep at all for a much greater proportion of people. Drop our prices and that's even less in the kitty compared to many of our rivals, because there's no way a material drop will be counter-balanced by the increase in attendance. Maybe G Nev is on to something with a potential North South divide! Hopefully we will see a drop next year and some simplification, but I doubt it'll be to a level discussed on here. For this year, fingers crossed we'll see more games like Bolton, which together with the South Stand making a mark, may make the whole match day experience more enjoyable, meaning people are more likely to come bacj and even encourage others (as opposed to putting people off with their dreary negative comments!). Your first paragraph is what is wrong, at some clubs paying 30 quid isn't classed as steep, that's the problem, 30 quid plus to watch 22 blokes kick a bag of wind around is really not good value for money, the value of the product is exaggerated, even if your team are playing well and up near the top of the league, no one should be playing 30 quid plus to watch a single game of football. It's lunacy. I bought two drinks (albeit doubles) in Clapham last night- £16. They were likely gone in ten minutes. Fairly bog standard restaurant/diner- the ribeye steak was £23. £30 is not expensive for many, even comparatively. NB- I am on about the South, as opposed to being a big time charlie

Now people use the Bradford model to what Town could adopt too, but let me assure you, there was no where near 18000 people in attendance today! also, Peterborough were a better team from 1 - 11 on the pitch for the whole game! My Bradford supporting mate says his ticket cost £6 per game, and some of that £6 goes towards stewardship, rent etc. The team were shocking though, so would you accept lower quality players, being outplayed for this model?
I wouldn't
Also the walk up price was £25!

there are lots of opinions on this subject but the biggest worry for me is the actual numbers. Losing around 3000 fans since we got promoted is a huge worry which we need to address.
What I would say is that the club has tried everything with season ticket prices and interest free options to get fans to turn up for the full season. I pay for me and my two girls on the monthly basis and its the same price as sky tv. But the match day prices are woefully high for a town like ours ( population and average salary etc) People have plenty of other things to spend their hard earned cash on.
I have said in the past:- you turn up for a decent steak and get served dog meat and you wont go back to that restaurant again.
Too many times in the last couple of seasons not only have we lost but the entertainment has been awful (brum, Cardiff and rovrum around the turn of the year spring to mind)
But I do get the feeling that people would rather watch us winning in league 1 than competing in the championship which for me is a real shame, as the average std where we are is miles better. Unfortunatley winning in a shit league seems to attract more folk than competing in a quality league hey ho

Thing is art- if you paid on the door and they made it cheaper (£20), would you be happy when the loss of income meant we were losing all the time? Would you even go to the games as we headed for relegation? What you say might well be true for someone on a low wage, but that still doesn't get round the sad truth of it, which is there is a going rate for championship football and Town are actually at the cheap end of it already. I keep hearing how fans need entertaining winning football to come back- well making it so Town can't compete for any decent players with our rivals isn't going to bring that. I totally understand it would effect our ability to compete but it's the game itself that has created this problem by paying ludicrous salaries to average players, passing the funding of the wages onto fans.

I'm just watching the Sky Football League Goals Now programme which gives goals highlights and attendances. Outside the usual suspects - big clubs at the top of our league - the attendances all over the leagues are scarily low. Looks like fans all over the country are voting with their feet, so don't go thinking that's it's just Town; it's been a creeping malaise for years now.
Barnsley, riding high in L1, just over 8000. Many gates in L2 under 5000 and at Mansfield, unbeaten at home, just over 3000.

It seems to me everything is over valued these days, there is no way on this earth that 2 doubles of what you had should cost 16 notes. You could get a bottle for that from the offie. Again, the steak shouldn't have cost 23 quid, everything is over priced, as are football games. Somebody is making a load of money out of the consuming public and it ain't me.

But is it really. What is the cost of running HTAFC vs the input at the gate from fans? I suggest that the home gate/season ticket income is about 30% of the club income

Its not all been crap but if a floater turns up on a day when it is then they won't be rushing back. If we can carry on this little run and play some good stuff then word will get round and we might just see a few coming back. We're on telly again at Wolves so lets hope the team sell themselves.

Its all right bleating on about fans of Newcastle and Sunderland being dedicated,,,there is sod all else to do up there. They also get to see £100 million of talent every single game...i get about 5 bobs worth for MORE cost. I was one of those who saw 2 years of games without missing a match home and away in the 4th Division....when we regularly took tice as many away as now!! Partly my age and societal change but where is the fun and excitement? We are being spoon fed a crap product whilst being pick-pocketed. Oh do shut up mate. Im amazed we have so many fans of scrappy lower league football. Hoofball fanatics. If we were playing that all you'd be doing is moaning like fuck because we don't string any passes together and keep the ball. If we were in league 2, you'd be moaning like fuck that we are 2 divisions below where we should be ( and we'll never get there playing this sunday league quality football!!) If you really want to see crap football at a bargain price, Im sure some Dog and Duck pub team would welcome the support. Bloody hell we have some shit fans. I also go and watch Stalybridge. Football cannot all be top level (not that i have seen that at Town in my lifetime). Its entertainment...room for all...big or small. The trip, the ground, the craic....anyone can watch Man United. You better start appreciating lower league football yourself because thats where we will be forever. As for bargain...£10 is not bargain, its the price for the top level in Spain, Germany, Italy and Poland... where i live.

I feel that there must be many fans who think like me. Were i to live in Huddersfield or environs, which i no longer do, and tickets were £10 (and the team tried to win instead of trying not to lose) i feel sure i would attend every game, whatever the division. At £30 i pick my games. Its simply, hugely over-priced and over-rated. I would support Town in the Conference, so would most who go. The "promise" of success at the expense of the fan and entertainment is a rum deal. Until 5 years ago i thought the Prem was a possibility...now i would not take 50/1 it happeneing in my lifetime. Knowing that i have changed how i feel about what i want from the club. I want fun, a match-day experience and effort...no more really. If the tickets were £10 then we'd have a crap team that couldn't compete and would lose all the time- and you still wouldn't go. It would be £10 to get in and we'd get relegated, not compete in the division below either and have smaller crowds than we do now. brilliant! You failed to read my post. I would go if we were in the Conference...perhaps more so than enduring this stultifying crap we have now. What puts me off is £30 for negativity.

Well Dean has come out admitted butterfield deal is in excess of 5 million eventually and Smithies and Coady near to 2 each so even with sell ons taken off its got to be 6 or 7 but I'm sure we'll be told differently Yeah, so in the region of £9m EVENTUALLY when its all in but nearly all deals now are spread over the contract of the player. For example Butterfields deal might be £2m up front and £3m spread over the next 3 years, something like that. Then theres Liverpools cut and boros cut on the profit for Coady and butterfield ( 25% seems standard but as with Norwood, big clubs sell cheap but have a bigger sell on of around 40% ) and Smithies and Coadys contract settlements which will be well into 6 figures each. Then don't forget all the incoming signings weve made will have costs= signing on fees, transfer fees on a couple of them, agents fees, loan fees, etc etc Then Im sure Hoyle will use a large chunk to offset his own costs running the club. How much is up to him. Deans said that money is there to re invest in january. No idea what that figure will be, just that I can't see it being anything like £8m for all these reasons. You forgot to mention the gas/electric and water bills

Disagree, you need a good product first...then it will sell...normal commercial logic -expecting fans to flock into the JSS in the hope 'one day' ? I think that day has already passed.. We got 13,350 in the first season back ...we finished 19th, following season av gate 12,630 - any progress (17th) ? not really, season after av gate 12,100 - progress (16th) ? now it's 10,000 turning up. During that period prices have gone up more than inflation and there has been a recession. I guess it's what do you define 'progress' as and do the fans accept that as progress... Plumetting gates has been a trend now for 3 years..Town haven't reacted properly to this, and slapping on a £3 match day surcharge is hitting the fans who are most likely to stop going - so no surprise even more have stayed away. Town either have to show real progress, play consistently attractive football and elevate themselves into the top 10 or they will find gates of less than 10,000. The warning signs have been there for a while now.. but the strategy at the club to deal with it has been completely wrong, and I despair when I hear Dean saying transfer monies will have to be redirected to making season cards cheaper...when it's casual fans who are leaving. It won't be long before the away fans will be contributing more to Towns funds than our pay on the gate supporters. For those who say we've played attractive football over the past 3-4 years, I would say why has Dean found it necessary to have 4 managers during this time then ? Dean admitted it's been 'dire', so let's not have any more of this nonsense it is the fans fault the club are struggling, because it isn't.

Apologies as i haven't read the whole thread but i see Dean is saying that the choice is to put the extra tv money in to the squad or to subsidise ticket prices Haven't we just banked 8 million? Surely that will be used to strengthen the squad (or some of it) and the tv money can then be put toward reducing admission price. Or am i missing something here? No. Not unless they all paid everything up front, none of the clubs we signed the players from have asked for their sell on clauses, and none of the incoming or outgoing players asked for their contract settlement or signing on fees. And none of the players we go ahead and sign will be all paid up front either.

If Bradford had, had a good start to the season you wouldn't have been offered a free ticket as all the 18k season ticket holders would be going, And so would their pals.
Same as when we sold a load of tickets when they were as cheap as, If numpty Satan hadn't fucked up the feel good factor. We would have been on a roll attendance wise.
Said it before, And al say it again, Get a half decent team, With reasonable walk up prices, In a big stand, with unreserved seating, Ala Kilner bank, Where your mates can sit with you, And we are onto a winner.
Far too any folk going in the Kilner (pop side) who should really be going in the main stand, End of.

Football is vastly overpriced and the stupid clubs have failed to realise that once fans stop going they rarely go back. There was a time when if no game was on a sat i was struggling to know what to do - not anymore, and i appreciate that family life plays a part as we all get older. Next wkd i am away golfing for 2 days - 2 rds, breakfast, evening meal and overnight stay for c120 quid........better value for money than 25/30 quid plus 25/30 quid travel, food, program etc for 90 mins questionable entertainment at wolves and im crap at golf!!! If i was dean i would look at making the leeds game 15 quid and really focussing on the south stand project which has massively improved the atmosphere within the ground. Align that with a few wins and fans will return and continue to do so ! Dead easy in theory i know!!!!!

Haven't had chance to read this very long thread as you can imagine but has anyone suggested the problem might just be that people just don't have the spare money at the moment. Thanks to the c*nts we call politicians everyone is carrying the burden of paying off the debts these careless c*nt (sorry to have to use it again) bankers racked up.
A lot of families are struggling to make ends meet and can't justify spending so much money each week on football.
I used to go fairly regularly but thanks to tax rises, high rent and no sight of a pay rise anytime soon I just can't afford to go.
