Play-offs - the biggest disgrace the FL ever devised. Brighton battle until the last second of the season and miss out on auto on goal diff despite only losing 5 games all season. They have players suspended as a result. Wednesday rest an entire team for their last fixture and finish 15 points behind Brighton. There is no advantage given to Brighton in the play offs. Really? I don't think you'll find much sympathy with Brighton, that's how the play offs work, its upto Brighton to win their play off. They are the best thing to happen to the promotion shake up. I feel sorry for Brighton - but I live there, wanted them to go up! - but, as you say, we all know the rules when the competition starts. It's a sucker punch but them's the breaks! Not too different from us finishing third to Brighton themselves and Southampton in League 1.

It's just a bit of a shame that they had to charge such outrageous prices and spend so much money to get to this position, rather than grow naturally. Hope it doesn't set a precedent. They're not setting a precedent, they're following the trend of Leicester, Bournemouth et al. I meant more around the ticket prices, remember back in September we were all moaning about how outrageous Wednesday prices were this season? www.theguardian.com/football/2015/sep/03/championship-ticket-prices-52-pounds-game

That's two teams at Wembley now that maybe wouldn't have been if the refereeing had been marginally above shite. A head butt in the Plymouth Pompey game and that goal last night, both crucial and not dealt with by the ref. Can't say for sure obviously but you have to think that the outcome would have been different in both cases. Sums up the standards of officials this season, magnified by the fact that Clattenburg has both the cup final and Euro cup final despite being in charge of the farce between Chelsea and Spurs when he never had control.

If he had the 'experts' would have blamed him for spoiling the game.. odd but the more people I talk to about football the more are getting pissed off by the money/the spoilt bastards and the general feel that they are all together now taking the piss.. The money coming in and the worldwide 'interest' might be at its pinnacle and maybe its about to go down the other side?? I used to be an avid watcher and interested in all football, now im not..

A better playoff arrangement might be for the top team of the four to get a bye to Wembley, fourth and third playoff at the third teams ground then the winner plays the second team at the second teams ground.

Nowhere near as bad as the completely farcical and ridiculous Championship Rugby where the top team is involved in play offs to get to the Premiership. Bristol have been top for the last 4 years but have lost the last 3 finals. They have their first leg of a 2 leg final against Doncaster tomorrow. They finished top with 95 points but had to play the 4th placed club Bedford who had 64 points. Complete joke. Doncaster were 2nd with 79 points.

Watched both Wednesday v Brighton games over in NZ on Kodi- SportsDevil and the unpleasant truth was that both teams looked at least a league above Town. And probably neither would survive in the premier without blowing every penny of the $millions they'll receive and then plus some. To get anywhere near they play offs Town need to spend $10 million at least and replace 5 or 6 players or it'll be the old bottom 6 routine and eventually a relegated return to Rochdale and Darlington. Money is on that in the next 3 years. Darlington? Are they going to suddenly jump up 3 or 4 leagues?

I think this is what I was trying to say in my earlier post, it would be a fairer way to decide promotion.

Brighton played Wednesday 4 times this year! Scored 1 goal against us and we're the better team for 40 minutes in all games! The best team won! Why the jealousy on here?

Buzz, why not just fuck off and leave us alone will you. you've not been promoted yet, tough 90 mins ahead of you I expect.
Our season's finished, we've moved on, this thread was debating the play-offs & the format etc. until you poked your nose in...
As another poster has said, graceless... (I'd add classless to that...)

Interesting with the play-offs and the dawn of the PL. In retrospect I'm a little amazed that the PL has managed to maintain such an allure, but of course other things have played out in its favour. The net result of that is that the FL has exploited the opportunity. Wasn't that long ago that p/o games were all played around a couple of nights, but now we have them played across several nights, all dictated by TV. Football is riding the of a , but the reality is that it's not Murdoch paying these stupid wages to players & agents (as that's where the majority goes), it's subscribers across the globe, pubs paying premium rates etc. I'm no economic expert, but I'd guess that at some point, with money being filtered out to shareholders/clubs, the money coming in from subscribers will start to decline. It's only smart marketing & the 'no-hassle' invisible payment methods that gets people to continue to renew. The BBC thing going on at present is just the first step in allowing Murdoch to get his grubby hands on the BBC. If you were to compare the output of Sky vs BBC since the PL era began & also compared the uplift in the licence fee to Sky subscription fees from '92 until now I'd expect they'd make interesting reading...

There has been more obnoxious Wednesday fans on this board than pretty much all other clubs put together (poss excluding Bradford).

I've thought of a better system than the play-offs. Get all the teams in the Championship to play all the other teams over two legs giving 46 games. That seems enough to decide who the best teams are. Then promote the top 3
