Mounié to be back.
A change in the system needed for me. They’ll play 1 up top so we don’t need 3 centre backs and Hogg sitting in front of them. We need to revert to a flat back 4 with the width coming from inside forwards, not full backs OR drop the excellent Hogg to play Mbenza as a 2nd striker. I’d go:
Lossl Kongolo Schindler Zanka Durm Hogg Billing Bacuna Mbenza Pritchard Mounié

They’re doing better against Arsenal than we managed recently. Will be another tough game for us if we play Lolo again and only 1 up front.

In one half of football against a decent team they've managed a fifth of the goals our team has scored all season. Can you imagine going in at half-time, at home, having scored two goals - and both by a striker to boot...

They’d scored 6 goals in 7 home matches before today. A change of approach and they’ve scored 2 vs Arsenal in 45 minutes.

Not if we play a back 4. Hopelessly exposed everytime he's played in a 4 at this level Looks decent as a wing back in a back 5 though

I don't understand why they are so poor. Look at us Mounie and Depoitre, both crap. They have Austin, Ings, Gabiadini and Long all fairly decent and would get in ahead of our strikers. Redmond has just come off hope he's out at the weekend.

If only we could bring Long and Austin off the bench.

There you go southampton bag. We could only dream of beating a big 6 team and score 3 goals. They've scored 3 goals against arsenal, we've scored 3 goals at home all season.

They took off an attacking player (redmond) and replaced him with another attacking player (long). We'd have put another defender on.... That is the difference more often than not. They've gambled, and it's paying off.

Just when you thought the week couldn't get any worse eh, get beat by these and there's a 5 point gap opened up.

That's what you get for having an American chat show host in goal. Awful goalkeeping.

The main difference is that we've spent 3 years playing above our actual ability and it was unsustainable. Saints have spent 2 years playing massively below their actual ability under the management of clowns.

It hasn't worked for 4 months but yep let's try it again. I wouldn't have either him or Depoitre upfront - I'd rather see someone like Kachunga or Colin have a pop - that's how ridiculous the situation now is.

The REAL measure of just how bad it has become was the fact that Quaner - who doesn't even have a squad number - was on the bench ahead of RVLP and big money signing Diakhaby yesterday. How poor must they both be?

Just said on another thread. That's 3 goals against Arsenal in 90 minutes, the same number of home goals we have scored all season. That's what happens when you don't persist with an awful, limiting defensive formation, you get bodies forward and score goals! Can't see anything other than a loss next week now Soton will come to ours upbeat and flowing with confidence. The only chance we will have is if we revert back to 4231 and put attacking players on the pitch.

We might as well start planning for life in the Championship. I’d prefer Hoyle to splash out next month, but can’t see him doing that, even though it’s gotta be worth 100 mill for the club to stay up another season, it’s an easy biz case to make to spend on strikers, but Hoyle will probably consolidate.

Hate to say it but the wheels are wobbling. Best player injured, strikers completely out of form. Alleged disciplinary problems meaning some players aren't in the squad for non-football reasons. As pressure builds some things fall apart. Look at West Brom last season.
3 matches will decide our fate: Saints, Fulham and Cardiff. If we go into the FA Cup week in January having been beaten by all our nearest rivals in the space of 3 weeks we are in huge trouble. Get to 16 points after 21 games and we will have a chance.
